Urban Meyer Thread -- Wednesday, 23 Nov

Submitted by markusr2007 on

Urban Meyer quoted by ESPN 12/23:

I have not been offered any job nor is there a deal in place. I plan on spending Thanksgiving with my family and will not comment on this any further.

Of course, this is Urban's secret code language for "I've called up Hernia Movers and they'll be at my front door on Monday."

Yet Central Ohio News 10tv.com confirms Meyer has accepted job: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7272658/urban-meyer-deni…

Mod Edit: We're going to do the thread consolidation thing again. This is your Urban Meyer thread for today. The only additional threads allowed are seriously new news. If a reliable news source (not Joe Schaad, Deadspin, or Sports by Brooks) says there will be an official announcement, then create a new thread. [zl]

For all you guys calling Meyer dirty you do realize who his best recruiter was while at Florida?

Greg Mattison.

I don't think Mattison was involved in any underhanded stuff so I give Meyer the benefit of the doubt and you may want to slow your roll on bombing Urban.

brought up with Herbie, and also covered on the local cbus sports station a couple times yesterday: will Urban's offense work a) at OSU and b) in the B1G?

I say, bring it on, so we can beat it in The Game.  It'll at least be more fun to watch than Tresselball or Walrusball.

To me... Urban sounds like a man trying to convince himself of something he's not sure he can accomplish...

"The concerns are still there," Meyer told The Gainesville Sun. "No. 1: My health. No. 2: My family. No. 3: The state of college football. I've done some research into the second one. I've found that it is possible to have balance between your job and your family, that there are coaches out there who are doing it."

It's a big difference to talk about what other people do and change habits he himself has already struggled with.

I don't really understand why folks are so concerned about Meyer. If he's the coach, we will beat him like we did before. OSU will have to deal with his criminal elements at the same time.

this happens. It will provide me with the convenience of concentrating nearly all my CFB hate (save for Satan, Bielema and a few others) in a single program. Most hated team + most hated coach = orgasmic joy when we beat those bastards.

"RT @TheBigLead: Columbus Dispatch: Meyer to OSU done deal RT @AlbertBreer: Yess! bit.ly/t1PvKt"

The stupid thing is his "health problems" excuse, if you didn't want to coach Florida because Tebow was gone and your teams were average, then say so. But don't try to fool people by claiming it was some sort of a "health issue".

I wonder what happens to Bollman.

Not a good move for Urban, although I welcome him and what he brings to the B10.

Urban is moving from a conference geared towards championships (oversigning, 8 game conference schedule, huge divide between top tier and all else) to a conference that seems largely unconcerned with its member national prominence and final rankings.  This does not bode well for an apparently high-strung, pressure-averse head coach of a program that will be demanding National Championships.

Urban Meyer is not going to escape a nine game conference season and a conference championship game with one very often, and I would not be surprised to see Florida make its way back to the NC before OSU makes it back.

Please edit the thread title to something like "Per (insert mod name here): Official Urban Meyer Thread."

The way it stands now is confusing and what I was objecting to during the PSU official threads: any user can title a thread "Official ___________ Thread" and it is hard to know if it is a mod or not b/c you guys use screen names just like any other user.

Your current system of "official threads" needs a lot of tinkering as it leads to deleted threads, point reductions, and banhammers with users ignorant as to why.

The way you do it now leads people to click on every single related thread to wade through way too many posts and spend way too much time reading.

To wit: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/columbus-dispatch-cofirms-meyer-coach

...with 80+ replies, thread started two hours after you say "this is official thread."
