Urban Meyer is a scumbag
First, he had a heart muscle condition, where he had heart pains every day, but battled through it for the young men he coaches. Then, it morphed into chest pains, with the requisite BS, then he had "anxiety", and now CBS said he is coming back and it's not a big deal.
What a prima-dona. Since he and his mule, Teabogod is not in the NC game, he needs to get some press.
Thank God he can overcome his own "serious heart problems" to coach college football (and earn ~$5 million a year). What a guy.
P.S. I think scum is more appropriate than douche.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:02 PM ^
Or maybe he's just conflicted.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:03 PM ^
he is comming back? wow, he's a duchebag
December 27th, 2009 at 7:07 PM ^
an indefinite leave of absence, but expects to be the coach at the start of next season. so yes, hes a douchbag.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:18 PM ^
whats so funny is that there was the health issues and pressure as Floridas HC. Well, hate to break it to you fella but there is absoulutly no pressure as Florida's HC, nothing compared to Michigan's HC's including RR. ugh, dickwad
December 27th, 2009 at 7:26 PM ^
That's mostly due to the fact that they're winning games. He's got the pressure to, you know, keep winning games. If he went 3-9 and 5-7 he'd be under similar scrutiny to RR. In the same way, if RR won two national championships in the next 5 years and went to another championship game, there would be a lot less "pressure" on him. Until he started losing again.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:30 PM ^
great minds think alike
December 27th, 2009 at 7:27 PM ^
there is just as much pressure to keep winning as there is to finally start winning.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:51 PM ^
flordia doesn't have the same tradition of winning as we do, going 3-7, 5-7 at Flordia would be so bad because they are somewhat used to it. In Michigan however, we haven't seen those results EVER! So you can't say its the same amount of pressure if any. If he's haveing pressure just trying to win another NC then he's wierd, because i'd just relax and say, Hey! were pretty good lets keep this going. Instead of saying theres pressure, which there is not(except for his heart)
December 27th, 2009 at 8:04 PM ^
Florida has three national championships in the last fifteen years. . .I don't think they'd just let that slide. If you think they would, go find the nearest Florida fan and mention Ron Zook.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:07 PM ^
wah wah wah i'm jealous of the success Urban Meyer has had so I'm going to nitpick his decision to spend a year with his family and return to coaching wahhh what a scumbag
December 27th, 2009 at 7:11 PM ^
I agree. Wah Wah Wah.
Michigan fans have issues. Just about every time a coach or player from a different team pops up in the press, the collective IQ of Michigan fans on display in blogs and call in shows is about 24.
But, you know, all that Michigan Class that we always hear about. LOLZ

that this is just not a ploy to keep them until signing day.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:11 PM ^
I couldn't hear the press conference. What did
he say, "I was just kidding"?
Maybe he did just want some press, if it were
anyone else, they might take the time to think
a decision like that one through, not this BS
right in the midst of bowl season.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:12 PM ^
1. Urban Meyer runs up the score all the time.
2. Urban Meyer does not discipline his players for on the field incidents.
3. Urban Meyer is tolerant of off the field incidents.
4. Urban Meyer badmouths other programs in the media.
5. Urban Meyer is a lead proponent of the idea that a coach should be a lobbyist for his team.
All of these are better reasons to hate Urban Meyer than his indecision over whether or not to quit coaching because he has a heart condition.
December 28th, 2009 at 2:05 AM ^
Urban Meyer did not allow Tim Tebow to rid the world of cancer, AIDS, and syphilis.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:12 PM ^
one of the best coaches in the ncaa. who the fuck cares if he has had a hard time grappling with the decision to leave something that he absolutely loves to do you idiots make me sick.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:13 PM ^
is bitch. brian should be proud
December 27th, 2009 at 7:38 PM ^
The banner should read "Bitching is mandatory, bitches." Because, like, every thread on the board is just straight bitching. Every single one. Occasionally there's a thread bitching about bitches. (Which is fair because that bitch is a giant bitch, so why not bitch about it.) Sometimes people even bitch about the bitching threads because they think the bitching has gone too far. That's some quality bitch bitching right there.
December 27th, 2009 at 10:44 PM ^
BlockM, are you rick james, BITCH???..... jp, i agree for the most part, even though I have bitched about bitching.

December 27th, 2009 at 7:22 PM ^
if you hate it so much then why are you apart of it!? your bitching about us bitching!
December 28th, 2009 at 12:39 AM ^
apart - To be separate from, removed from.
a part - To be included in, an important component.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:26 PM ^
I was just stating the obvious.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:31 PM ^
Lou Holtz said it best: Sometimes you make a dicision like this--then you tell the wrong person, and it is going to come out at a time you didn't want it to.
That's probably what happened here. No way would Meyer want to announce this decision at this time--talk about a distraction. Now the bowl game is secondary.
Hell, I'd go so far as to say that's part of the reason for toning down the retirement talk. Call it a LOA for now--try and get the press off everyone for the next week.
This is what happened to Tom Osborne. Retirement talk swirled around him the entire 1997 season. It really heated up leading up to the bowl game. The story was going to break--he had to announce. Plus, he probably wanted to give Michigan fans something to bitch about for the next 400 years.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:31 PM ^
Tim Tebow is going to coach the Gators next year.
December 27th, 2009 at 7:35 PM ^
i'm hot going to call the guy a douchebag, dickwad or scumbag because I am just like all of you on here, I wish U of M had recruited and played as well as florida the last 3-4 years, you all know it you just want to call names for some reason. but, what I really want to say is...........he's obviously been hanging around Billy Donovan too much lately
December 27th, 2009 at 8:16 PM ^
Or maybe he really does have health concerns, the original report that said he was stepping down for good was incorrect, and he decided to come out and correct it?
I dont like to always assume people are scum bags..sometimes it may just appear that way.
December 27th, 2009 at 8:44 PM ^
Meyer confirmed the original report himself in a phone call with Herbstreit and a few other interviews with print reporters last night.
However, I wonder of a few candidates for the coaching spot turned down Florida over the past 24 hours and Meyer got talked into calling it an indefinite leave of absence. He still might not come back, but that wiggle room could keep a few recruits around until they sign a LOI.
December 27th, 2009 at 8:33 PM ^
According to ESPN he was in a hospital for several hours after the SEC championship game due to chest pains. The AD encouraged him to resign due to his health and he accepted but after this weeks practice he decided he couldn't walk away just yet. Sometimes people need to read beyond just their own team news before spouting off.
Personally I respect the man for the success he has had and want to see the same happen at UM under RR. Florida is the school I had modeled in my mind for our coaching change when LC resigned.
December 27th, 2009 at 8:55 PM ^
Some people are completely fucking insane. And I'm not referring to Urban.
December 27th, 2009 at 9:11 PM ^
Sure he may have missed a bowl game the day after a heart attack, but that was it. No leave of absence for him.
December 28th, 2009 at 9:32 AM ^
Bo was a MICHIGAN MAN!
December 27th, 2009 at 9:21 PM ^
Hey OP:
You're criticizing a guy with a heart problem who might have to stop his career because of it.
I submit that YOU are the douche.
December 27th, 2009 at 9:26 PM ^
And then the OP was a zombie
December 27th, 2009 at 9:37 PM ^
that was so severe, but his "team" convinced him to stay? That's life threatening. He defied his doctors to coach. He's like the Rudy of coaches.
Dude, get a clue. This is pure and simple PR for Urban Meyer (not UF), just the 1 man.
He was the talk of the town for 24 hours, even though Alabama and Texas are in the NC game. This is what a media whore craves.

I believe it was the Philippines (but that was in 2008, 2009 may have been Africa).
December 27th, 2009 at 9:47 PM ^
if this were such an issue, why not wait until you have a decision made. I mean, it's not like there is a timetable. The reports yesterday said that the Florida AD asked Urban Meyer to take a leave of absence for a while and come back, but he decided to quit instead.
Common, if he had a serious problem (which even though he is scum, I hope he does not) why not either:
1) wait a few days until you are 100% sure you want to quit;
2) take the AD up on his offer and decide on a leave of absence; or
3) really decide to quit and not let your "team talk you into staying" (which is like self proclaiming that he is so great that the people wanted him back).
The guy is a scumbag, although he is a great football coach, he still is a scumbag.
EDIT: actual quote "He said being with his players at a "spirited practice" Sunday morning persuaded him not to resign."
December 27th, 2009 at 10:08 PM ^
This is one of the most inane posts I have ever read on this blog. Hate him for his success. Be pissed at him (as I still am) for his political ways in 2006 with his pimp Danielson. But to call a man a douche/scumbag/etc. for being torn between a job he loves and his health....I am simply amazed.

Anyone who changes their mind after having a night to think about it. Seriously he made a decision then changed his mind, recruits do this all of the time. Jeffrey Godfrey for example committed to USF then within a week decommited and went to UCF, do you have a problem with him?

Braylon to awnser your question yes, I think anyone who doesnt commit to MEEEEEEEEECHIGAN is a scumbag lol.
