Chris Spielman, Meyer's broadcasting partner, was on 97.1 The Fan in Columbus yesterday and said that the report of Meyer visiting Penn State was completely false.  Meyer, along with Spielman and some other friends, were hiking up a mountain the day that the report says he was in Penn State's AD's office.

The hike was the day before the Penn State Iowa game. They mentioned it during their broadcast.

The Urban Meyer meeting with the AD and JoePa rumor started a week or 2 before that when meyer was on campus doing a piece on penn state and watching a practice.

Urban Myers would save that cesspool in Columbus from ruins, and provide instant credibility the likes to which they don't deserve. I pray they don't get him and yes I'm a hater. Buck the Fuckeyes!!!

Lulz.  The Bucknuts are already speculating on who would become Urban Meyer's defensive coordinator and staff.  Seriously:

Hey, if you're going to have delusions of granduer, they might as well be really grand ones!

Every single Ohio State coach since WWII has been forced out in disgrace.

Every single one.

If Meyer goes there, you'll need to question his mental health, not just his physical health.

I would think that Meyer would want to have some serious control over who he is playing and what not.  I've read that he would want one of "his guys" in at AD before accepting a position, so that would completely debunk this article.

if OSU turns around and dumps >$5 million/ year onto Urban's lap and hires an upgrade to Tressel, with little to no real penalty to OSU. They won because of cheating and are rewarded for cheating with the best coach around?

I have to believe that if OSU ever gets a guy like Meyer, their penalties would be worse.

What makes anyone believe that Meyer would voluntarily tell his entire family to go jump in a lake so he can voluntarily submerge himself into the most caustic, stressful and health-jeopardizing environment possible?

It would never occur to Ohio State fans (nor Notre Dame fans back in 2009), that Urban Meyer may have already found a good place.

Ridiculous! Of course he wants to "come home" and coach the Buckeyes!

It's one thing to hope for a miracle all the time - I mean, sure let's suspend the natural order for a long while and keep everyone hanging in disbelief.

Except, no, Ohio State fans take it a step further - "please suspend the natural order (miracle) and do so IN OUR FAVOR".

I don't think Meyer returns to coaching at the college level. He doesn't need to lift OSU out of the ashes.  He's already done that shit 3 times over at BGSU, Utah and UF. If he ever does return to football coaching, then it would likely be at the NFL level where he might still have something to prove.

Hiring Meyer would be almost comically self-destructive. A school whose players have run wild off the field hires a coach whose players ran wild off the field. Methinks this would not go over well with the OSU trustees -- not to mention with the media. Meyer is a terrific coach but also a sanctimonious phony. Florida's academic standards were laughable, and the team had something like 30 players arrested.

And this CBS guy is an idiot. Meyer, he says, would be the right guy for OSU because his teams never ran afoul of NCAA laws. They just ran afoul of the law-law. Now there's some logic.

I guess my first thought is 'so what'. I think we got a good thing going here at UM and Meyer doesn't scare me. He's a fantastic coach but he's proven he doesn't have the ability to balance life, family, etc., in a tough coaching environment. This isn't a criticism of him, it just tells me he thrives with balance. Working for ESPN is a good thing and I hope he makes the best decision for himself and his family. If he takes the Ohio job I think Hoke vs Meyer will be the real deal.

is the guy.  Problem is, why in hell would he ever leave OU for OSU?  Wouldn't that just be putting stupid in the middle, know what I mean?

IF Meyer ever returns to coaching in college he'll go to PSU.  Paterno has always been his reported idol and the above comments are right, the pressure cooker of insanity in Cbus isn't worth the therapy bills.  PSU has the patience an understanding that could feed Meyer's ego and ability to build a winner.  But, why leave the sweetest gig in TV?   The only reason is that competitive nature that some coaches just have.

Would Saban ever consider leaving Alabama?  Could he get bored there or want a different challenge?  Not necessarily now, but maybe in a couple of years, or do you think he wants to break records at Bama?

What if Carroll fails in the NFL, could he come back and ressurect the Buckeyes after the fall is completed?

Having been a UM fan since birth in Ohio, the 80s and 90s were a glorious time to taunt the Buckeyes on their turf. Moreover, you saw the "M" at Cedar Point 90% of the time vs. the "o" (won't capitalize it).

But since Tress they have become unbearable. The Buckeye fans' of the 2000s is a different breed of the 80s - 90s crowd, which still had some decorum.

The 2000s Buckeyes are Juggalos, 99 cent store Buckeyes.

The modern day buckeye is a base human incapable of discerning right and wrong, rules and consequences, immune to tradition.

They need to hire Spielman, insert some discipline and decorum and respect for tradition.

Honest question: Surely there are a couple OSu fans out there who have realistically broached this subject and pondered over who may replace Fickell (assuming he gets replaced). Surely their list is greater than Meyer and Stoops, right?

FWIW, the latest rumor I've heard down here in Columbus (comes from someone who is friends with an OSU athletic board/committee member/rich man) is that the latest name being tossed around is, "a big name, but not the big name you are thinking of."

I translate that to mean "not Urban Meyer, but someone else big time."  I know this isn't overly informative but it does come from a pretty solid source and may point to someone else BESIDES Urban Meyer.

Those dumb "watching tape with Urban" sessions which run every Saturday during College Game Day, featuring Urban breaking down film with Todd McShay (and piss-poorly I might add, better analysis here on mgoblog) feature a picture of Woody Hayes prominently on the wall, visible in almost every scene....  So, if Urban has a picture of Buckeye Buddha on the wall, and remember, this is television, everything  is staged, it makes one wonder...

Those poor SOBs in Columbus are in one helluva ride over the next six months or so.

Turns out they've had some pretty deep budget cuts at tsio and won't be able to fly around in a corporate jet a la Dave Brandon to seek out their new head football coach.   Instead it will be...
