Upset Picks- who you got?

Submitted by 814 East U on
I have Cuse in the Final 4. I also have Virginia out of the East. That seems like a major upset even though they are a 1 seed after listening to the expert picks. I wouldn't be surprised if Kentucky makes a run. Julius Randle is fun to watch.

I have Michigan State beating Michigan State on one side and Michigan State topping Michigan State in the other side in the bracket. Spartans top MSU in the title game. Not a popular bracket, but I have as good a shot as any.

Dayton over Ohio (As a side note, if Ohio gets past Dayton and faces Syracuse, they might not score 40 on that zone with their lack of offense), ND State over Oklahoma, and Harvard over Cincinnati.

Watching the ESPN "30 For 30" on the Big East somehow reminded me that this will be the first time Mercer has been to the tournament since the year of that Georgetown-Villanova final in 1985. Of course, I don't think Mercer made it very far - they drew Georgia Tech that year, I believe - but this will probably be a game that they have some motivation to play even if their loss to Duke is humbling.

Cincinatti over MSU in the second round.  It's a homer pick, but I do actually believe it.  Also, MSU should be careful with Delaware in that first round.  They're a solid mid-major.

I agree that Cincy and UVA are going to be tough games for MSU.  Both teams will not be out-physicaled by Sparty and will force a State to knock down outside shots, which I believe is their biggest weakness.  If you like fast-paced basketball, these will not be fun games for you to watch.

I have Kentucky over Wichita State and Louisville.

Wichita state, because they're this year's version of 2013 Gonzaga with Olynyk (who, ironically, lost to Wichita state in the round of 32)

I may be getting crazy with the next one, but they've already beaten Lousiville once this year

MSU, god willing. I'm already tired of the "experts" gargling all over their 'nads about how Izzo is winning it all this year.

Other than that, I don't care. Go Delaware.

I haven't looked much at anything in terms of matchups so far, but the laziest of base lines I like to use before doing any real research is KenPom rankings. Higher seeds that are low in KenPom or vice-versa make for the easiest picks.

So saying that, you're looking at:

  • Tennessee/Iowa over UMass
  • Providence over UNC
  • Harvard over Cinci
  • Xavier(Assuming they beat NC State) over St. Louis
  • NDSU over Oklahoma

Both 11/12 play-in winners win next game.

UCLA over Florida and wins South.

Virginia over MSU. Oh, wait, that isn't an upset? Never mind.

Does Ok. St. even count?

UNL in the Sweet 16.

BYU over Oregon.

Wiscy in the Final four.

NC St. in the Sweet 16 (I just don't like Louisville that much is pretty much what this is).

Iowa over Umass.

ASU over TX.

Pitt. over Colorado, which shouldn't even be an upset either.

Stephen F. Austin over VCU.

Dayton over oh*o.

Cincy over MSU.

St. Joe's in the sweet 16.

Also, in another bracket I have NDSU beating OU just so I could have an SDSU v. NDSU game.

UVA over Florida in the Final Four. UM over Wiscy. Wahoos as champs. By this time next week I am prepared to burn my bracket.

Harvard over Cincinnati.

Amaker returns with virtually the same crew that pulled off the 14 v. 3 upset a year ago.

A Crimson win over the Bearcats will set up Harvard v. Staee.  It should be fun to watch, but I'm not prepared to make that pick just yet.
