Updated Sagarin Rankings, Sept 19
Sagarin updated his rankings today, based on this weekend's games:
OSU 7
Nebraska 16
PSU 22
Michigan 24
Wisconsin 29
Iowa 32
The "Look ma, I'm a big kid now" Award: James Madison 37
Northwestern 39
MSU 41
Notre Dame 51
Illinois 62
Massachusetts 72
Purdue 77
Indiana 82
Connecticut 83
Bowling Green 90
Minnesota 97
The "Wow, we suck so much" Award: Akron 187
Sagarin rankings become completely legitimate after the fourth week of the season, mind you - after week 3 the preseason ranking still has some small effect. But they are very close, now. Edit: I was wrong. Every calculation is Bayesian NOW, which means that they are actual rankings, which can be taken as legitimate. Also, added Bowling Green and a link to the rankings.

...including Michigan, there are 6 Big Ten teams within the 3 point home field advantage margin.

Bayesian means the ratings involve prior information. The Sagarin ratings aren't completely legitimate (i.e., independent of the preseason rating guess) until they become "connected," i.e., there is a chain of common opponents linking every pair of teams.

Rankings are meaningless this early in the season. We still don't know how good many teams really are. I think the U-Mass game was good for Michigan, it will make them realize they can't take anything for granted.....

Interesting that our three games have really sort of borne this out when you think about their relative difficulty. Notre Dame being the closest, UMass being under control but closer than we'd ever want, and UConn not really being much of a game.
I hope it stays true through BGSU, Indiana, and MSU.
