Updated roster, Caris LeVert 6-foot-7, 200 pounds
The freshmen numbers, heights and weights were posted a couple of days ago. Some questioned whether the heights and weights were accurate for the rest of the team. It's good to see the guys beefing up.

My only comment on that would be that GRIII was in basically a professional S&C program in high school. He came in absolutely ripped and had already made a lot of the gains that you see some of the guys make between their FR and Soph years. I highly doubt Chatman is in the sort of physical shape that GRIII was as a FR.
LOL Kam was working with pros throughout HS. GR3 was 200 lbs a freshman, Kam is 210.
You do realize that Kam's weight gives little indication as to his level of fitness? I'm a fat 215 right now, but if I worked out a lot I'd probably be a strong 215.
Also, I'm not sure if it's on purpose, but you generally come off as an a-hole on the board most of the time.
You do realize if he is working out with pros and Sanderson that he probably is in-shape? And I could care less how I come off to you.
I can guarantee that you, random internet guy, have absolutely no idea what the workout routine of some recruit is unless you happen to be friend's with them (unlikely). Many college athletes work with "pros" (i.e. some trainer at the local Y) while in high school, but, magically, those pros are not nearly as qualified or capable as college S&C coaches. What I'm saying is that it usually takes at least a year to take a college freshmen and make their body B1G ready, although there is the occasional physical-freak-outlier (GRIII). That's partly why Nik and Caris made such a huge leap last year. You just can't transform someone's body in two or three months.
You should reread your first sentence and take your own advice.
Sick burn bro, but do you know why it's difficult for freshman to make a big impact in college? They're generally not ready in a number of areas, fitness being one. The presumption is generally that players need S&C work.
It's difficult because of the speed of the game and structure. Fitness is well down the list.
Football more than basketball unless you're REALLY skinny. Chatman's no beefcake, but he's not a beanpole.
Also, highly-rated recruits are typically such because of their athleticism...at least partly.
Not sure what you 2 are arguing but unless Wilson redshirts (which seems unlikely) Chatman's playing time won't be anywhere near GR3 as a freshman so it is pretty moot. Chatman on paper seems a lot more polished skills wise so I assume is going to start and get 20-25 and Wilson the rest.
As for S&C some guys are naturally built as well ... so you can't even do an eye test; some dudes just have genetics. Look at Irvin - he was a physical specimen the minute he walked onto campus and went to the same HS as Gary Harris and Harris looked nothing like Irvin body wise 24 months ago when he arrived at MSU.
Thankfully we are at the point we should not have to have a freshman play mega minutes as GR3 was required to.
As a recruit, he was listed at 175 lbs (per 24/7).
not 175. Either way, he's very skinny coming in as a freshman.
We have no big man not even one on paper who looks tall...
/s, I'm guessing? This starting line up is about 3 feet taller cumulatively than the one we won a conference championship with in 2011. May want to check my math, but I'm pretty sure it's correct.
He's listed now at 6'9". That makes it easier to put on good weght.
It's true. I started putting on the bad weight and growing horizontally right about the time I stopped growing vertically.
There might be a huge difference between the S&C program he had in high school and the one he has at UM. If so, it wouldn't be hard for him to put on a decent amount of good weight.
If I remember correctly, Caris was 6 foot 5, 165lbs when he arrived on campus which really puts into perspective how much he's worked in just two years.
6'7"? I had no idea he is the tall.
Gald to hear Caris is doing well and is continuing to add size. But these guys
Caris - 6'7" 200 lbs
MAAR - 6'4" 175 lbs
Dawkins - 6'6" 190 lbs
are all pretty skinny. Hopefully Sanderson can work his majic with these guys
Skinny or not, I look forward to watching them play. Should be another fun season of hoops!
Luckily they decided to play basketball and are not trying out for the Michigan cagefighting team.
Durant was 6-10 and around 220 pounds coming out of college, so while Levert is still kinda skinny he's way closer to what I'd expect than when he played as a freshman at, what, 180 lbs or something?
Super skinny
Yes I am not so concerned about weight like some people on these threads especially for guys playing 2 and 3 - i.e. Caris, MAAR, Dawkins. They are not inside banging or going to lose rebounds due to being pushed around a lot. There are plenty of college guys sub 200 lbs 6'5, 6'6 who do fine. As others said this is not football where at almost every position another 15 lbs doesn't hurt. Caris played very well last year at a lower weight - if he added 10 lbs this offseason I would have considered it gravy. So he grew an inch and added 15 lbs while being off his foot for a good stretch, very good.
I am more concerned with Doyle turning some his weight into more muscle, and Chatman and Wilson gaining "good" weight as those are the guys who have to deal with bigger players inside. Donall is a good case - just looking at his photos he looks like he could gain another 10 lbs and still look pretty sleek for his size but is now at a good college weight for a guy that is 6'9.
Post much. But I'll leave this here. Via Twitter
Hard to tell from this picture, but it looks like DJ Wilson is an early favorite to make the All-Hair team
6'7' 200!
