so much for that
Updated Espnu100 (Men's BB)
Alright, thanks for the advice.
Agreed. I clicked on it to correct him and say "uhh ESPNU ranks 150.." before I realized it was basketball.
But still great representation. Robinson didn't move up as much as I thought he would, but these two (and McGary if he comes) are gonna do great things in Beilein's system

I am clealy new to this.
I haven't been following basketball recruiting very closely in the past month or so, but do we actually have a legit shot at Mitch McGary?
Any savvy person who doesn't completely buy into every BS rumor from Rivals want to weigh in on this?
We definitely have a chance considering we are in his final six, however there has been no indication that we have better than a 1/6 shot.
We're in his top six (along with Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Maryland, and Florida), and he has said he loves the staff and Michigan. He's looking for the "right fit" (obviously) and is friends with a lot of our players and recruits.
All of that, plus our depth chart, means we do have a very realistic shot. He wants to commit before the season starts, which I believe is November? I'm not getting my hopes up, but it's possible.

He also played this summer on the same AAU team as Glenn Robinson III.
Everyone thinks they have a very realistic shot.
There is no time, sir, at which ties do not matter.
Novak and him are from the same hometown, and he seems to help Mitch out when he was younger.
Glenn Robinson is his AAU teammate, and they are best friends. So we do have some extra stuff that could help nudge him our way.
AAU with GRIII and played HS ball with Novak. He is also very versatile for a big man, which probably factors in to his interest in Beilein. A few things that could definitely help.
Don't think he could have played HS ball with Novak being they are both seniors. I do think he might have attended Chesterton as a freshman and had some interaction with then M freshman Zack Novak.
Well I read somewhere, probably umhoops, that Novak had told him at one point that if he [McGary] put the effort in, he could be a legit player.
...team together. However, as noted in this Sam Webb article (discussed here):
Last year's on-court success has definitely gone a long way toward establishing a positive view of the direction of the program, but a few other factors may serve as equally significant feathers in the Wolverines' cap. First is the fact Bielfeldt and Robinson III hail from same AAU program as McGary (SYF). Then there's the fact Michigan captain and Chesterton, Ind., native Zack Novak served as mentor of sorts for McGary when he was a high school freshman.
The familiarity with those players helped increase the appeal of the Maize & Blue.
"(Robinson) and I have been best friends for a while," McGary said. "I know him. He lives in the same area as me. When we're home we always hang out and stuff.
"(Novak) told me I had potential," he added, recalling his freshman year. "He and I worked out a few times. I kind of just loved the game after that and figured I had to work on things. Then later in my career I knew my grades were kind of crappy so I moved out to Brewster and made that transition and everything has been good since then."

He's been on campus once, says he's coming again, has us in the top 6, and plays AAU with Glenn Robinson III.
So yeah, there's a shot.

There were earlier reports of McGary returning to Michigan for a visit, but this ZagsBlog post from yesterday casts some doubt on that.
“He’s seriously interested in all six to check them out,” Tim McGary, Mitch’s father, told SNY.tv by phone.
“He’s going to go to Florida this week. And we’re going ty try to visit Kentucky and North Carolina and Duke. He’s already been to those other two [Maryland and Michigan].”
The article says McGary and his parents are planning a trip to North Carolina (to visit both UNC and Duke) for the week before September 10, which is when he goes back to Brewster Academy.

Legit shot? Yes. Leader? No. Its going to be hard to pull him away from the allure of duke, unc, and kansas. With that said, he recently said he likes the way michigan is heading with their rebuilding, and I'm sure he knows he'd fit perfectly into the beilein system. Im not going to hold my breath, but if he committed it also would be a complete shock (in terms of surprise that is. I would however be in shock at how good our class would be)
...Kansas isn't in McGary's announced top 6, the Jayhawks are looking really good right now.

"I love him, he's a great coach, he's a great mentor, he's a great friend. He's every single thing you want a college coach to be, and he does it flawlessly." -David Molk
If Mitch is a young jedi, would it be better to compare Beilein to Obi-Wan or Yoda? Who do you think he would rather have as a mentor and why?
(I think probably Obi-Wan, if only because Yoda is so short. Then again, Yoda has some serious "ups" and would probably be a good mentor to a point guard, for example. Is Mitch a guard?)
Disgruntled former moderator. I got a lot of problems with you people!
He's on the record as saying he doesn't care whether or he goes to a mid-major or a high major team, that it's all about fit for him. Also made the obligatory "I care about academics" statement. Especially contrite here because he's likely a one and done.
If we could pull him and THJ doesn't head to the NBA, next year could quite nice.
I thought GRIII would get moved up more. I do believe the final "top 100" list will have him top 40 though(and maybe even higher).

Michigan has great representation on that list. It adds to the renewed feeling that its a great time to be a Michigan fan.
PS - It would be more informative if you added "Men's BB" to the title
