Way too early.

2007 was two of these WTF, knock the wind out of you, make you sick types of losses to start the season, and it ended with playing Ohio State for the conference championship, which a healthy QB may have helped win.

Save us all the time though of reading about how "that team had..." or "but this team..." and all that other bullcrap.  None of it refutes the very simple truth that you just don't know as much as you think you know about a team two weeks into the season.

Not sure what you're talking about...we only lost one game at the beginning of 2007 before we beat Notre Dame 38-0 in week 2. You must be thinking of a different year.

Who gives a rat's ass? That 2007 Michigan team was one of the many but probably the biggest underachiever in Lloyd's tenure. He should have been ashamed of himself the way we blew those first two games after we were picked to win the national title by a ton of people.

I don't consider a 9-4 season a successful one at Michigan and I don't get why so many people on here do. The big ten is a garbage pile this year and we still won't win it which is hilarious and incredibly frustrating at the same time.

UMxWolverines: I agree with everything in your post and would like to tell you why so many Michigan fans consider 9-4 a successful season.   Note that I am using the word "we" to denote the Michgan fanbase in general.

It is because Lloyd Carr avearged 3.1 losses per year and was considered a "success."  9-3 every year was enough to keep the stadium full and the donations coming in.   Every year we would talk about how "this is the year we get another National Championship" and every year after Jim Tressel got to Columbus, we would be disappointed at the end of the year.  We rationalized three Rose Bowl losses in four years by being happy the team got there.

After The Horror and The Debacle, we finally got fed up, but the attempt to bring the program into the 21st century was derailed by factors that we have rehashed over and over.  Now, we  are so desperate that we would consider 9-3 with a bowl loss for 9-4 to be a successful season.

However, I have never agreed with the "we."  I started becoming disgruntled with the results in about 2002 and started using a 9-3 regular season as my default "prediction."

Right now, the program is "leaders and best" in song only.   They use the wrong century's offense.  The AD is such a clown that no great coach will seriously consider working for him.  And yes, the program is still paying for the actions of so-called 'Michigan Men" who told HS coaches not to send their players to Michigan.

Worse yet, the idiots who put their personal agendas above the program also allowed Sparty to gain leverage and traction.  Rich Rod was recruiting with both hands tied behind his back and Brady Hoke was given the job of trying to retool a 21st century team for 20th century football while his first year of recruiting was basically a joke due to the hiring debacle.

The program is at a classic crossroads.  It is close to finally becoming good again but it is also close to becoming a dumpster fire. This season is going to determine what happens for about the next five to ten years.

My hope: keep Brady Hoke but give him a spread OC.  We can't afford another "rebuilding job."

What makes you think Nuss will be a better HC than Hoke or anyone else? He has zero experience at that level. Also, if we're complaining about coaching, it's not like the offense (Nuss' area) really lit up the scoreboard last night...

Obviously I'm not trying to denounce him two games into his tenure here at Michigan, but it's a bit premature to annoint him as the next head coach.

Let's all pull for the San Fran bowl so that DB will be in the right place geographically to start the coaching search when we get blown out in yet another road game.

I suppose I don't understand - with all that has gone on in the interim since the search in 2011 - the continued pining for Jim Harbaugh. Four years removed and a relatively successful stint at Stanford and in the NFL later, it simply doesn't seem lke this is a realistic notion, and indeed, I don't even know that it would be universally popular here.

Even though it's early, I'm not very optimistic. I don't know if I believe we can win the conference at this point, but if not I'll settle for a bowl game in Florida.

As long as we do not play Arizona. For the love of all that is good and decent, please do not let us play Arizona. RichRod would stay awake for weeks crafting his best possible game plan to beat us. And I'm honestly not confident at all that we could beat them.

That sounds about right with our inability to win a road game and our expected "drop a home game we should win" like Nebraska a year ago. 7-5 or 8-4 should surprise no one after the debacle in South Bend.
