UPDATED: Back of scoreboard - Maize M looks a-go

Submitted by MGoBender on

From 9:45 this morning, I took these on my morning run.  Drove by 20 minutes ago and looks the same...

It might be hard to see, but that maize strip on the bottom ends before the panel ends, so that is the width of the foot the the block M.

If I'm not too busy, I'll update here in the afternoon.  When I drove by around 10:50 they had another blue piece hanging from a crane.  Watching paint dry has never been so fun.

EDIT: About 5:20pm on Thursday:

And here's a shot of the almost completed Elbel Field Band Practice field, now turfed:

hey everyone,

So I just ran by the stadium and snapped a shot of what it looks like on my ipod (hence the quality).  This was 3pm on 7/31.

Looks like they messed up on the block M and took it down. But, look below where the gate opens. Those appear to be the maize panels. So we'll see what they do in a few weeks.

From the looks of those maize panels, the 'M' on the back might be raised like "Michigan Stadium" is on the front. Looking at this pic offline, cropped, sharpened, and saturated, there appear to be around 18 panels, each several inches thick, on those pallets. Does 18 make an M?

From 2d to 3d, just like in the movies?

I think they placed it a little too far to the right and a little too far down the board.  When they tried to put the point of the M in place it was almost at the same level as the base of the M pillars, which is probably when they realized they had a problem and pulled out the blueprints.

Something is strange...Those side "panels" appear to be a temporary covering for whatever is going on inside.  The bottom strip thing doesn't match the rendering either.  Anyway, I've got a meeting in A2 this afternoon and will post some pics if I'm able to get by the stadium.

Wow, I didn't notice that the side panels are transparent - it must be that the light has changed. I agree about the oddness - the side panels, the different backing - it would be good to know more about what is going on. I am not seeking some outlet for criticism, as I think its good to be moderately adaptive in this sort of thing, it would just be interesting to have access to the inner-workings of putting these things up.

Pics would be greatly appreciated!
