Also, if you like a "feel good" recruiting story, read about Reginald Davis.
I like this "background position" guy. Can he play tackle?
Only if you tell him where to go with a trail of breadcrumb arrows.
i think you need to repost. it didn't come out right.
I have to say I'm impressed and i would root for a kid like him no matter where he goes. He is the type of person that deserves a scholarship. Good luck to him
Don't think he used plain-text editor....
I cut and pasted from the original post (which I created).
I don't know why it was screwed up. To fix it, I just hit edit and re-saved. I didn't change the formatting in any way?
Regardless, thanks for taking the time to track offers/commitments and update the list. Very informative.
If you click the link at the top of the post, the offer list is perfectly fine on that.

According to Rivals, Davis committed to Texas Tech today. Good story, best of luck to him!

That's a lot of "offers." I wonder how many kids on that list could actually commit right now if they called Coach Hoke. Seriously, it sounds like what Ed Orgeron did in Meat Market--basically shotgun offers to see what stuck.

I'm pretty sure that most school do this.

It seems like everyone except the Top 5-10 big-name programs do it. 'Bama, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida seem to be highly selective with their offers--especially Texas.
Fans that get really pissed about decommitments need to recognize schools do the same thing. The schools are in a tough position, because kids want an "offer" or they'll feel less important, but schools need to be somewhat selective about their actual priorities and targets.
I doubt this will be the SOP for Hoke once he's been here for a while. I assume they are throwing a lot of offers out to gauge interest.
If we're handicapping the prospects, we can probably narrow the list down significantly.
Consider, Michigan will likely have 20 scholarships with an allocation something like this:
- QB 1
- RB 1
- FB 0
- WR 1 to 2
- TE 2
- OL 5 to 6
- DE 2 to 3
- DT 2 to 3
- LB 2 to 3
- CB 1 to 2
- S 0 to 1
Based on TomVH's posts, if we were handicapping the players that we have the best chance with, the following players would be on that list*:
- TE Ron Thompson
- OL Jordan Diamond
- OL Caleb Stacey
- OL Ben Braden
- DE Chris Wormley
- DT Danny O’Brien
- DT Matthew Godin
- LB James Ross
- LB Royce Jenkins-Stone
- LB Kaleb Ringer
- CB Terry Richardson
- S Jarrod Wilson
If we land those players, that would leave eight openings. If we exclude the 12 listed above and the 22 players that have already verbaled somewhere else, that would leave 102 players with offers to fill eight spots. So you can see, the list becomes much more managable as players start committing.
*BTW - I realize we may not get all of the listed players. It seems the staff has demonstrated that they are priorities and it would surprise me if we didn't get most of them.

I don't think there are many people who expect Richardson to come to Ann Arbor.
I was really wondering if I was the only one
Michigan has used this approach for the last few years. The difference is that Rodriguez tossed out early offers to nondescript 3-star players who had/have little chance of making a significant impact.
Do you still believe that all the players Hoke is offering qualify as "elite" players?
I'm not trying to start a quarrel, just wondering.
All? Probably not. The vast majority? Yes.
to a "select" best would be fine with me.
Coming off a three-year stretch in which Michigan was 15-22 and making an underwhelming hire (as far as name recognition goes), I think many Michigan fans are overestimating the power of a Michigan offer.
We could offer a "select" few if you want. We just wouldn't get many of them.

at this juncture in throwing out a lot of offers to gauge how serious the interest of various potential recruits may be, so long as those offers go to people we would like to have. once we get to the point where we have confidence we will get most of the people we recruit, we can narrow the focus.

Dont have enough to create a post but Ringer has all but made it official that he will be commiting to us on his twitter page. as he said.

I don't know, the message seems pretty cryptic to me. I think you're grasping at straws.

Yeah it took some hard work to break that code. lol

i remember seeing an article not too long ago (i think on scout), where he was very upset/kind of pissed with the coaches at tOSU for telling him he would not be getting an offer from them when he really wanted one....where better to go now --- Kaleb Ringer, come on down!
Just offer everyone! What the hell do we have to lose? We've been a laughing stock for the better part of four years, let's go for broke!
