Update: Cato June's Anacostia HS Football to play for championship

For the first time since 1995 (when Cato was playing for the team), Anacostia HS will be playing for the D.C. championship.  Anacostia won their semifinal matchup by way of forfeit last week (use of ineligible player).

Anacostia advances to the Turkey Bowl - to be played at Eastern High School (a block from RFK stadium) at 11am on Thanksgiving day.  They will play the local bully - Dunbar HS - for the championship.

For those who haven't been following my posts, Cato took over the coaching duties this season and turned around a team that had won only a single game over the past two years.  Let's hope they can finish this fantastic run.

so.  With a championship caliber team, he should have a few.  I always liked Cato and his style of play for us.  I hope he sends us some kids from enemy territory.

Good for him.  It's nice to a great Mighigan Man like him succeed at coaching like this.  I would love to see him on Hoke's staff as an assistant someday.

He might have a legit shot at a coaching career.  It's always nice having M players in the coaching ranks.  Loeffler is doing well, and Hart and Wheatley are getting good starts as well.

That's interesting - I wonder how many M players are coaching right now?  Obviously Harbaugh would be the biggest dog on that list.  Ricky Powers is a HS coach in Ohio and I know Parrker Westphal has an M coach in Illinois, but I can't seem to remember who.

Sure, his team isn't doing very well this year, but he's an OC at a major program despite being 38 years old.  He's not the best OC in the country, but he's proven to be one of the best QB coaches in the country.  To be honest, he probably should have stayed at Temple as the OC for a handful of years before taking an SEC-level OC job, but that's Chizik's fault, not Loeffler's. Either way, he'll likely be a coordinator in D1 for a long time, so I'd say he's doing pretty well.

We did this as a post about a year ago but some other former M players turned coach include:

1) Tony Blamkenship is HC at Muskegon Heights HS
2) obviously Tom Wilcher is HC at Cass Tech HS in Detroit
3) I believe Walter Cross is one of Cato June's asst coaches
4) Rod Payne is head coach of Boca Raton Spanish River HS (FL)
5) I believe Rob Rene's is a position coach at Reeths Puffer in Muskegon area.
6) Ron Bellamy is the HC at West Bloomfield HS
7) Anthony Thomas is the special teams coach at West Virginia Wesleyan
8) Steve Morrison is coaching LB's at Syracuse
9) Kurt Anderson coaches at EMU
10) obviously one Mad Hatter Miles at LSU
11) Mike Trgovac is still D Line coach with the Packers
12) Kevin Koger coached at Saline HS this fall
13) I believe I read that Marcus Knight is coaching receivers at Northern Michigan
14) I think Garrett Rivas is coaching HS somewhere in Tampa
