Upcoming 60 Minutes Sports segment on Associate AD Greg Harden

Submitted by MGoMarc on

We've seen some articles on Harden come out recently, but this still looks like it will be an awesome look behind the scenes. Incudes interviews with Tom Brady and Desmond Howard.

1. That was AJ Williams, not Quinton Washington.

2. That is quite the assumption you made that Q Wash was "in trouble" and that is why he didn't play as much down the stretch. Coaches don't discipline bad behavior by having players play more sporadically. They either suspend them for a half or a game. Washington was available for every game, and played in them, just not as many plays. EVERY athlete goes to Harden--whether it be for advice, counseling, or just to talk--not just when they are in trouble. No way would the university embarrass a student-athlete by putting him on national television for someone like you to assume "oh, he must have been in trouble; THAT'S why he didn't play very much". No, he didn't play very much toward the end of the season because he was either not performing, or hurt, or both.

"Wow, I'm going to feel old when people start saying that about 9/11." And then I remembered that the current crop of recruits was 3 or 4 years old in 2001, and in all likelihood they do not vividly remember 9/11.

If you watched that segment, I'm not sure how you could have missed that it's 60 Minutes SPORTS and it's not on the old people's network, CBS, it's on SHOWTIME.

I could pull the Nielsen ratings today at the office, but I suspect the demographic profile is quite different, and I hate pulling Nielsen reports, so I won't.

You'd think that Hecklinski would have the sense to notify every single recruit, including McDowell and Harris etc,   to watch the 60 Minutes episode, right?   I mean, stuff like this can make all the difference... any thoughts here from those who'd know ?

Michigan's new coach, Brady Hoke, won’t report directly to Harden. But maybe he should. After Lloyd Carr left the Big House sideline, Harden was marginalized. Most fans blame poor coaching and recruiting for Michigan’s football spiral. But some alums think Harden’s absence was just as damaging. If players like Brady and Howard didn’t get mentally stronger, how good would those Michigan teams have been? “That’s why the program went into shambles,” Smith says. “Because he wasn’t a big part of the process.”

Is that true?  He's not utilized as much these days?

the article you're quoting there was writting in Jan 2011, so the coach in question was RichRod, not Hoke.  Though I don't know the answer to your question directly about how involved he is with the current football team, some of those sideline clips in the segment make me think Hoke's got him around.

Sam Webb had an interview with James Brown focusing on this story. James Brown went on and on about how impressed everyone involved with the story was with Greg Harden.

Well worth listening to the podcast. Link

The show is on tonight although I don't recall the time.
