University of Michigan Basketball - Defining Moments

Submitted by EZrider on

This documentary is being pitched on Kick Starter to relive the thrills and excitement of the top ten moments in Wolverines basketball history - as you've never seen them before!   This looks like a good project to get behind.  I hope it gets made. http://kck.st/YOU5uq

But my thought was, couldn't a thread on here and someone like WolverineHistorian basically do the same thing for free? The production value would obviously be a little better, and it'd be more legal, but that seems like a lot of money for a highlight clip show with no one making any money off of it.

And how/why did they land a Canadian "basketball legend?"  I mean, the biggest donation and you get to play him one on one with it video taped; so you can tell all your family and friends "yeah, I got to play with....this guy you never heard of....and it only cost me 10 grand!"

How about we list the defining moments under Beilein?  I'll start:

-The UCLA/Duke games in 2008-09

-The win at Breslin in 2011

-The win over Sullinger and the Buckeyes in 2012

-VCU, obviously

Manny's three point play at the end of the Clemson game in the '09 tournament.

And every single second of the Tennessee curb stomping in '11

The win at Minnesota in '09 was definitely a big moment in Beilein's tenure.  We needed a statement road win badly, and found ourselves down 10 in the second half.  We made a huge comeback and then Manny drilled a 3 to ice it and effectively send us in the tournament.

The "Get the f**k off my court" win over MSU was similarly important for tourney purposes and capped off our first sweep of MSU in about 15 years.

March 23, 1989 round of 16 in Lexington Kentucky. 3 Seed Michigan under interim head coach Steve Fisher, face up with 2 Seed North Carolina Tar Heels. Not many were confident that Michigan, amongst all their turmoil, would be able to muster the effort needed to knock off North Carolina. After all, North Carolina had knocked Michigan out of each of the two previous NCAA Tournaments, this game didn't look to be much different. But different it was, emerging legend, Glen Rice, scorched North Carolina for 34 points including 8-12 from 3 point land, as Michigan exorcised some demons and M fans started to really believe this team could win it all, which of course they did.

March 24,1987 round of 32: North Carolina 109 Michigan 97, despite 24 from Gary Grant, 22 from Glen Rice, and 20 from Antoine Joubert.

March 25, 1988, Kingdome, Seattle, Washington, round of 16: North Carolina 78 Michigan 69, despite 29 points from Rumeal Robinson and 18 from Glen Rice.

Stretch Goal - $120,000

If we hit our stretch goal and raise $120,000 we'll be able to bring in some of the players and coaches who were actually there for these pivotal moments in U of M history.

I was pretty interested in this when I first read it on here.  Then I read what they wrote and lost any ambition I had of helping.  I can watch a highlite film and make up what the guy was thinking at the time it was happening.  If thier not talking to the actual players/coaches or people who were actually a part of that moment, its an over financed Highlite Film.

Maybe they should do one highlite for free and then let us decide if its worth funding thier venture for the other 9.

Why in the world would they show a clip of Webber taking the timeout while asking us to support their project? They realize that making Wolverine fans angry will not help them get donations, right?
