Uniformz: White pants issued in 2008 but never worn?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Scanning through ebay for Michigan memorabilia and stumbled across something pretty interesting.

A pair of game issued WHITE football pants from 2008- 3 years before white pants were actually worn.

Notice the Maize piping down the sides. This would have matched the "elephant tusk" Maize jerseys worn from 2008-2011.

Answering questions of legitimacy, the description says these were bought at the Athletic Department garage sale. This listing isn't the only instance of the pants though. This one has 10 pairs available.

My only questions are, why were these scrapped? And what do you think of them?

I thought this too but this was before any uniform craziness we have now at Michigan.

Sites would have exploded over this. And I don't remember seeing them on MGoBlue with their weekly practice videos. The media would have reported it and Michigan boards would have had a meltdown back then.

Wasn't there a "rumor" about wearing white pants for an away game at Iowa at some point during the RR tenure. I remember there was a lot of pushback from the media/fans. Perhaps they were ordered, but never actually worn.

I wonder if something like this could be considered a collector's item down the road.

I just wanna see blue pants once in my lifetime.  With all the odd choices in alternate uniforms, it seems like such a simple and obvious choice.  I mean, I'd happily sign up for one road game a year in blue pants right now, but that's probably a bit radical for some.  Not bumblebee radical, but out there far enough.

Considering all the stupid uniformz we have seen since Adidas took over, blue pants would hardly even move the needle now.

Maybe the football team should copy the basketball team and just wear all maize jerseys with maize numerals that are completely unreadable by anybody.  Now THAT was brilliant!

happened right around that time. My guess is that as part of the switch, Adidas designed a set of concepts that would more or less be a part of their pitch to help assist in the deal made between the two. Like us on here have to photoshop our ideas, big business in sporting goods suppliers can just actually make the damn thing and lay it out to show. This comes from no real insider knowledge, just an uneducated, well thought out guess.

various Michigan forums were abuzz with folks who knew players saying they'd heard that UM was planning to wear all white unis at Iowa.  Some claimed that the players had seen them.
