Uniformz: Rumors of MSU "special" gear this weekend?
http://www.delanysdozen.com/2012-articles/october/michigan-state-s-pro-combat-helmet-leaked.html
This site is reporting that MSU may be pumping themselves up and psyching out confused Michigan players by wearing shiny helemts this weekend.
It reminds me that animals and babies are usually attracted to shiny things.
Anyway, real or not?
P.S. - searched board and did not see anything on this SIAP.

As long as we're not in clowniformz, who cares? They'll be embarassed whether they're wearing embarassing clothes or not.
October 18th, 2012 at 11:08 PM ^
They can wear prom dresses for all I care. Win #900 will overshadow whatever ridiculous outfits they wear Saturday.
October 18th, 2012 at 11:27 PM ^
Forget that they were hideous to look at. How in the hell we thought it was a good idea to change uniforms 15 minutes before our biggest game of the year I have no idea.
I felt going on a John L Smith like rant about how the kids were playing their tails off and the marketers were screwing it up!
October 18th, 2012 at 11:54 PM ^
Biggest game of the year? For Sparty, maybe, but not for Michigan. Not by a long shot. Under the Lights and Ohio were infinitely more important.
October 19th, 2012 at 12:03 AM ^
Im sorry, but any game against a non conference opponent is NOT the biggest game of the year... PERIOD. Is our goal every year to beat ND? No, it is to WIN THE B1G CHAMPIONSHIP. Beating ND never has, and never will have anything to do with that.
October 19th, 2012 at 12:04 AM ^
Going to the rose bowl a big deal, but I do.
October 19th, 2012 at 11:16 AM ^
I consider winning the Big Ten very important. What I don't understand is the notion that the six conference games we won weren't important and the two we lost were.
October 19th, 2012 at 11:54 AM ^
rivals, is in the same division, competes for the same instate recuirts and had beaten us 3 years in arow?
I mean seriously, why are people even debating this point? Are people just too arrogant and stubborn to even acknowledge that MSU is a big game every year and even more so in the last couple years?!?
October 19th, 2012 at 12:52 PM ^
Now you're arguing something else. I agree that it's a big game; I just don't think it was the biggest game of the season last year.
Can you honestly tell me that you'd swap the outcomes of the MSU and OSU games last year?
October 19th, 2012 at 3:34 PM ^
If you mean that MSU would be 6-2 with a loss to Michigan, then absolutely. If you're just saying in a vacuum, then of course I agree, but our championship and Rose Bowl hopes had a lot more to do with MSU than OSU last season.
Edit: M-Wolverine beat me to the punch, which isn't all that surprising I guess.
October 19th, 2012 at 1:53 PM ^
No one said it wasn't a really big game. But you said biggest. As has been pointed out, you can argue UTL, but Ohio State is narually always bigger (and we actually compete with more recruits with them than MSU...at least we should), and after having been that long without beating them, I'd say it's one of those once a generation times where beating OSU was probably more important than winning the Big Ten. Because we've actually won the Big Ten more recently than we've beat OSU. It would have been a horrible feeling for all to go another year, with them having a new coach and the game being down there this year, even with a Big Ten title. Hollow at best.
You'd have a better chance claiming getting the MSU monkey off our back this year was a bigger deal, with Hoke already being 1-0 vs. the Buckeyes. Even with it looking like it may not mean as much in the conference standing (unless a Sparty upset elevates their team for the season). Hasn't been since 2002 that anyone could make that argument.
But I bet if we get to the end of the season and beat Meyer in his first game, at the Horseshoe, and Brady gets them up here next year to possibly go 3-0 against them...that'd feel pretty sweet. But getting ahead of ourselves.
October 19th, 2012 at 9:12 AM ^
No way... that game proved WAY more important for us not going to Indy or Pasadena last year.
Enter division opponent over osu argument here. And don't even bring up nd because over than the novelty of being our first night game it had no impact on the season or bowl game. Msu still went to indy, and could have gone to the rose bowl after being annihilated by nd.
This is and was most important.
October 19th, 2012 at 10:45 AM ^
If we don't beat osu, we still have that monkey on our back, plus we don't go to the Sugar Bowl.
October 19th, 2012 at 10:46 AM ^
You are right about the MSU game as it pertains to winning the B1G championship. If we had beaten MSU last year we would have been playing Wisconsin in Indy. I don't think this statement is entirely accurate though -
And don't even bring up nd because over than the novelty of being our first night game it had no impact on the season or bowl game.
While it is always the goal to win a B1G championship, the Notre Dame game was an important factor in our Sugar Bowl appearance. Had Michigan State beaten Notre Dame they would have been higher in the rankings with only 2 losses, after their loss to Wisconsin. That would have given them a small chance to get a BCS invite, which they were not going to get with 3 losses. In the end, neither Michigan or Michigan State got what they wanted (the B1G title) but it was Michigan that went to a BCS bowl game and not Michigan State, and you could argue that the Notre Dame game was the difference.
October 19th, 2012 at 3:05 PM ^
Hey, sorry.
The "don't even bring up nd" sounds a lot more harsh when its isolated like that. I just meant that they weren't a conference opponent. I understand what osu means but man, we had a drought against them for awhile and it sucked but I'd rather have ended the one against msu first because of the divisions. Doing a day count of the osu timeline stings but I'd compare it to the national debt right now in that the bottom line is it is a silly number. Two thousand days? It gets to a point where it all blurs together. That is no better than 300 days or 3000 days.
October 19th, 2012 at 11:15 AM ^
You can argue that the MSU game was more important than Nebraska, or ND (although I'd argue the UTL game was a big confidence-booster for the program). But no way was it bigger than the Game. We had gone 2,926 days since our last win over the Bucks. It would have been absolutely devastating to lose that game. Besides, if we'd have beaten MSU and lost to OSU (all else equal), Sparty would have won the division anyway.
October 19th, 2012 at 1:46 PM ^
But if we had beat MSU and lost to OSU, wouldn't we have won the division. My memory may be off, but then teams would have lost to-
Michigan - Iowa, OSU
MSU - Michigan, Nebraska
Nebraska - Wisconsin, Michigan, Northwestern
So we'd both have two losses, and we'd have won the head to head.
October 19th, 2012 at 3:29 PM ^
Whoops - you're right about that. We would have won the division. Regardless, we needed to end the OSU losing streak. We spent all year chanting "Beat Ohio" for a reason.
October 19th, 2012 at 11:53 AM ^
id rather beat fuckin msu then continue to get beat by them every year, and having to deal with all the msu fan's in michigan
October 18th, 2012 at 11:08 PM ^
They saw how many turnovers last time we played a team with photoluminescent helmets.
Maybe we ARE distracted by shiny things!
October 18th, 2012 at 11:09 PM ^
Save it for next year Mork! Your season is over.
October 18th, 2012 at 11:10 PM ^
Brandon said we would wear our normal uniforms the rest of the year, but you never know with his uniform fetish whether we'll come out wearing something ridiculous. We had no warning last year with the bumblebees.
October 19th, 2012 at 1:25 AM ^
All maize.
Please no
October 19th, 2012 at 6:13 PM ^
I think we could use all-maize to honor long-standing Michigan traditions. The important thing is to make sure the tops and bottoms don't quite match.
October 19th, 2012 at 9:21 AM ^
If State does wear ridiculous uniforms, hopefully for them they will not increase the humiliation several degrees by pulling a "fakeout" and changing into them just before the game starts. That was really smooth.
October 18th, 2012 at 11:11 PM ^
Looks like a D-III school from around these parts. Heyyy Castleton State
October 18th, 2012 at 11:12 PM ^
I just got an idea that could change EVERYTHING! Lets take our regular helmets but make all the colors shiny metalic, and put it under a clear coat. Nobody has EVER done that!
October 18th, 2012 at 11:14 PM ^
/Turns on Oregon game
Oh.
October 18th, 2012 at 11:14 PM ^
My friend in the MSU AD says yes this is true but he said the helmet is it. No other uniform change. Decided metallic advantage.
October 18th, 2012 at 11:29 PM ^
Well turned phrase
October 18th, 2012 at 11:14 PM ^
I for one am intimidated and terrified.
October 18th, 2012 at 11:28 PM ^
Their effect on the field is terrifying enough. Imagine how many of the intergalactic recruits that Dantonio is now pulling will be drawn to the phosphorescent helmets the way moths are attracted to a flaming couch...
October 18th, 2012 at 11:30 PM ^
Michigan State...burning couches
October 18th, 2012 at 11:15 PM ^
It's too bad that Nike doesn't think highly enough of MSU to come up with an original uniform design for them. Last year they gave them the extra uniforms that Baylor had lying around, and this year they get Colorado State's.
October 19th, 2012 at 12:24 AM ^
I actually think both look pretty good, even if they're highly derivative.
October 18th, 2012 at 11:17 PM ^
Yeah, what kind of idiots would have surprise uniforms for a rivalry game?
Pfft.
October 18th, 2012 at 11:19 PM ^
the idea of crazy uniforms for a rivalry game. Why not?
October 18th, 2012 at 11:19 PM ^
With helmets like those why should we even dress for the game?
/s
October 18th, 2012 at 11:19 PM ^
Any chance they did this after seeing the pic of the MSU helmets our guys were wearing in practice?
October 18th, 2012 at 11:35 PM ^
Actually think the helmet looks pretty cool. I'd further posit that if they made a Michigan winged helmet like this that we'd all be going nuts and high-fiving each other right now.
October 18th, 2012 at 11:36 PM ^
Michigan State and "Cool" should NEVER be used in the same sentence. One of these things is not like the other!!
October 19th, 2012 at 8:45 AM ^
He didn't use michigan state and cool in the same sentence. And what if you were to say, "michigan state is so not cool." Still violate your rule?
/thatguy
October 19th, 2012 at 9:23 AM ^
technically no but, there are so many better more colorful ways to say it!!
October 18th, 2012 at 11:43 PM ^
if Michigan ever makes a helmet like this, you are going to see a riot.
October 19th, 2012 at 12:20 AM ^
I'll be the one in it.
October 19th, 2012 at 8:06 AM ^
Count me in. Torch and pitchfork in hand.
October 19th, 2012 at 11:40 AM ^
Not a chance. If there was no riot after the bumble bees, there would not be a riot after a metalic helmet.
October 19th, 2012 at 2:16 PM ^
The bumblebees did no where near as much damage to our uniform legacy as metallic helmets would. Our helmets are off limits. Numbers and stickers are ok to change things up, but the minute they touch the wing or color scheme I'm going ape shit.
October 19th, 2012 at 6:46 AM ^
This must be your first day here. In the past year there have probably been a half dozen threads dedicated to the piping on away jerseys. We fear change.
October 19th, 2012 at 8:28 AM ^
I would further posit that your assertion is far from the truth. This board has a pseudo-meltodwn anytime Brandon introduces another jersey, a major board topic for any differences noticed in the piping of the jerseys, endless discussions about the "maize" and "yellow" qualities/characteristics of apparel over the years, and a decided opinion that Michigan's helmet is THE GREATEST in all of college football.
You think "we'd all be going nuts and high-fiving each other right now"? Sir, I must strongly disagree.
