I don't get the blue stitching all over the block M. Is that the way they used to do it or something? I might have been able to work through the stripes if I had a nice, traditional M to soothe my weary nerves . . .

The stitching on the Block M and on the numbers is the worst part of the jersey imo. I don't think the stripes are terrible, especially with the cropped sleeves of the players' jerseys, but the stitching blows.

If I recall, didn't our hockey uni's have that type of stitching on the block M at some point?  I'm not sure if it was during the olden (non-Adidas) days but I assume so.  A quick google search yielded no help.  Anyone on the board with a replica jersey like that?  I am sure I've seen it!

Let it be known that I find the collective bitching over the appearance of this jersey hilarious. Did I miss the memo where you all invited each other over to drink mimosas, gossip and watch "What Not to Wear?" No one's making you buy it or wear it, and if you're seriously concerned over getting mocked by Mr. Token Sparty/Buckeye at the office, there are other issues at hand.

The uniform is part of the M football tradition, just like the fight song, the Big House, or touching the banner. Fans have every right to be critical, just as they would if one of these other traditions was tampered with.

Last I checked this is a place to read about the happenings of our favorite team, keep up on players-coaches-recruits, get stats, and offer opinions on our favorite team.

Bitching about a change to our vaunted uniform falls into that category.

The shoulders just look ridiculous.  I would have much rather they went with all whites, or maize tops white pants or blue pants.  Anything would have been better than these shoulder stripes.

Speaking of uniforms, whatever happened to the new tighter/lighter (adidas' answer to pro combat uniforms) talked about last year?

I think the jersey looks good. The jersey you see now is not what they would wear in the game. The sleeves will be cut down and fitted around the shoulder pad and arm. Their won't be that many strips. I think it will look a lot better on the field and I hope the pants go well with the Uni.

I'm still curious what pants they will be with and what they'll look like when it's the whole team, whole uniform, in pads, lined up in a formation.  By itself it is undesirable, but on the field it could end up kinda ok......probably not, but I'll reserve complete judgement until I'm watching the game.  They could wear lime green scrubs and I would still watch.

of a story I read about the Bengals' introduction of their new uniforms in the early 80s, when they brought out the tiger stripes on the helmets on trim for the first time.

The head coach, Forrest Gregg, called a meeting of the players to show them the uniforms.  Just before the unveiling, he said:  "Gentlemen, these are our new uniforms.  No-one is allowed to laugh at them."

I get that the idea is to have fun and have the players wear something special for the game. I get that the idea is for M to sell a bunch of stuff.

I don't care what they wear all that much. I'm not a die-hard about the unis. In fact, if they want to take the field in black leather helmets and lace-up canvas vests, I'm down with it.

But I'll just have to admit that these jerseys look a little goofy.

Guess what - Brian still loves to complain. The blindly syncophantic masses of Mgoblog still love to complain. And yes, this place still sucks. Michigan football is full of positives, the likes of which we have not seen in 3 years. Yet the blind masses here will find the negative in a smidgen of a hint. Keep complaining, keep bitching, keep fighting, for doing so produces page hits. Which does not make Brian complain.

Haven't we learned by now that "the kidz" like just about anything as long as it's new and you package it up right?  If they were actual throwbacks, the kidz would like them because they're sikk.  If they were all black, the kidz would like them because they're sikk.  If they were tiger-striped, the kidz would like them because they're sikk.  If they were maize with maize helmets, the kidz would like them because they're sikk.  Or at least, that's what we're told by the "shut up because the kidz like 'em" crowd.  That being the case, why make them stupid and ugly?  Make real throwbacks and they'll still be just as sikk, and still not piss off the rest of the fans.

If we beat Notre Dame, the consensus reaction from the media and fans will be "hey, those jerseys are pretty damn cool."

If we lose to Notre Dame, the consensus reaction from the media and fans will be "David Brandon dressed our team up in clown suits for a few extra bucks. Jackass."

What I would've liked to see is airbrushed helmets made to look like the old leather ones. Would've been neat to have modern technology but the LOOK of an AUTHENTIC early UofM jersey.

that the poor stitching block M's will be on the shoulder pad area or sleeves and we'll have big maize numbers a la the mid 70's uniforms and all will be right with the universe. I mean it's not like the Mayan calendar says the world's going to end next year or something...

but I also thought the big chill jerseys were going to look dumb and I ended up liking those so I will withhold judgement....until tomorrow at 8 pm
