Unconfirmed Dennis Norfleet Snapchat thing
Dennis Norfleet announced today on snapchat that he tried to get back into Michigan but it was not to be. He said he appreciated his fans, and the people at Michigan. He will be headed down to Alabama to play D2 ball at Tuskegee.
Dennis was on of my favorite players, he will be missed.
[Ed-S: Nothing yet from Norfleet in any other social media, nor from any sources who've had good info up until now. Please post screengrab or something to back this up. Understand: people saying "I read on MGoBlog that..." can make us look really bad, even if it's message board.]
edit: I know Dennis, and I'm friends with him on snapchat, so I saw this first hand. I would put all my mgopoints towards this being the truth ( mgopoints are better than gold).
Happy Trails stay on a good path.
At least this way he will get to play in a bowl game
Heirtzman goes to a bad MAC team but Norfleet goes to D2. I'm not sure that would have been their ideal landing spots
He has to go to DII in order to play right away.
I also wonder whether if there were indeed real academic issues, anotherD1 program would have taken him. Even if Norfleet wanted to sit out a year. I
Cranky Dave, more like Curious Dave.
go back to your pipe asshole.
Could do the same at a 1-AA school, I believe.
That only applies if you have two or more years of eligibility left.
I wish he could have been able to get back in at Michigan. All the best at Tuskegee!
My grandfather was in the Tuskeegee experiments.
I almost upvoted this comment, then I was all like "Wait.... am I upvoting the Tuskeegee experiments? 'Cause those were, uh, well, the term 'aweful' hardly does them justice."
It's a line from Half Baked
Damn. He could have been good. He never was, and probably never would have really panned out, but I held out hope. Since it's D2, I wish him all the luck in the world and I hope he leads his team to a natty
While Peppers is probably more than capable of taking over as the prime return man, I for one think Fleet's swag made the games more fun in an irrecplacible way. RIP atomic doge
Fleetwood is hard to beat though. You cant ever knock is coverage on special teams and he does actually have a lot of yards as a return man. Never took it to the house though. That damn Roby.
but can he dance?
Ah, Fleet. We barely knew ye.
On kickoffs, he made it up to the 20 faster than any player I've ever seen. Then plop. Nothing.
A lot of kids from Detroit who have an opportunity to attend college area usually up at Tuskegee (grew up with several)...should be a comfortable enviornment for him down there. Wish the best to him.
Attended ASU down here in Montgomery and still live here. You would be surprised at how many people from SE Michigan end up here or Tuskegee.
I feel for the guy and the tough decision he had to make. May he score a touchdown!
Always thought he was immensely talented as a returner, even though our awful special teams never let him truly show it. He'll light it up in D2 and I wouldn't be surprised to still see him try out for an NFL team when he graduates. Best of luck to the guy
I thought he was coming back for sure. Wowzaa
Hasn't happened to me in years, I promise!
Don't worry it's perfectly normal, I'm sure it happens occasionally to all men your age
Academic issues must be serious if he ended up at Tuskegee?
he's just really into his frat and he wants to go to an HBCU where he knows people or his grades are more comparable.
I'm gonna miss me some Northfolk!
But best of luck to one of the most entertaining of all Michigan Wolverines, a young man who committed to a last-minute offer four years ago and made the best of his good fortune (except for never taking one to the house that actually counted).
I'm gonna be keeping on eye on Tuskegee Football in the same way I kept an eye on Idaho State Football when Matt Gutierrez transferred there almost a decade ago. Let's see you finally get a bunch of TD's on kickoff and punt returns, Dennis!
I hope these leads to some spectacular d2 highlights. I always felt like he was inches away for housing one. Best of luck to him
Norfleet was entertaining
This heavily saddens me. Loved the guy to pieces. Going to miss him for sure.
Is probably weeping into his keyboard.
Good luck to Dennis! We will always have atomic dog.

Obviously I don't know all of the details, but if it's true that he had ~3.0 g.p.a. After three years and didn't have a major then his advisors or someone failed him. I wish him nothing less than the best.

Isn't a 3.0 gpa pretty good at a place like Michigan? It seems weird that he would be kicked off for competitive reasons for his 5th year as he would bring a lot to the table in kick return and slot.
Would've been his fourth year

Let's just wish Mr. Norfleet the best of luck.
I'd say that version of events is highly, highly unlikely. You don't get kicked out of school for not picking a major in a certain amount of time. Michigan even has the BGS program which does not require you to have a major at all.
He could have carried a 3.3 GPA through 4 semesters and if he had a 1.2 for this last semester he would have been declared ineligible for fall sports. Also, if he received incompletes in any classes he may have fallen under the minimum credit hour threshhold. That's how it was when I played and I am assuming things haven't changed drastically. He must have had quite a bit to make up and was unable to do so. This is of course assuming that the source is true and he isn't able to come back...
were absolutely atrocious under Hoke.
I think DN was more a victim of that unfortunate fact than a contributor to it.
Good Luck.
I wish him nothing but the best. One of the few things I disagree with this blog on is the worshipful reverence of Norfleet, a guy who has -- what?? One kickoff return past midfield in three years? -- limited success on the field. It just wasn't there.

Yup. One of the most over hyped players in recent memory

How many other punt or kickoff returners scored TDs for Michigan in the last 3 years?
Ok, how many big returns?
Blocked field goals & punts?
Our dominating spread punt system that swarmed the other team?
WE COULDN'T EVEN FUCKING GET 11 PLAYERS ON THE FIELD!
Maybe Dennis Norfleet was the single bright (or even less dim) spot on the most embarassing special teams unit in all of college football.
I don't think Norfleet was as much overhyped as he was "over-hoped".
I don't think he's a superstar but he's clearly one of our better players at his position.
Evidence please.
I posted this in the comments section of my site the other day, so I'm ripping myself off here (LINK):
Fact: Of the players who have 10+ career kickoff returns in Michigan history, Norfleet is #14 in yards/return.
Fact: New kickoff rules that discourage kickoff returns were not in place until Norfleet was Michigan's kickoff returner; therefore, almost everyone else on Michigan's list was unencumbered by the new rules.
Fact: Norfleet's yards/return is equal to or better than those of Derrick Alexander, Anthony Thomas, Amani Toomer, Martavious Odoms, Tyrone Wheatley, Todd Howard, and Stan Edwards, just to name a few.
