Per UMHoops, 2015 SG Matt McQuaid decommitted from SMU
It's been a bad month for Larry Brown. 2015 four-star Texas SG Matt McQuaid decided to re-open his recruitment. His dad is from Midland, and he'd talked about visiting Michigan prior to choosing SMU. He may be the best shooter in his class according to UMHoops, so file him under "do want." It appears to be too early to tell whether he'll rekindle his Michigan connection, but he's at least a possibility again.

“It’s a lot of fun. This is something you only do once, so I’m going to enjoy (the recruiting process) while it lasts,” Matthew McQuaid said in a phone interview a few days ago. And, yes, Wolverine fans, McQuaid is open to playing at Michigan, which has an offensive system that fits his style of play.
I've heard recruits say this before, and I do agree - they should give themselves the opportunity to enjoy the process and learn everything they can about the various schools that are recruiting them, so it is definitely a respectable stance.
Based on what has been written, of course, I would agree with Erik In Dayton - "do want" is a good label here. Per CBS, he wowed folks at the LeBron James Skills Academy with tremendous outside shooting, including a game or two where Jeff Borzello of CBS claims that McQauid did not miss a three.
As for SMU, I think that leaves them with one guy for 2015, but they'll also have a transfer that is eligible that season, I believe, so technically two new faces for that season.
This is huge. Hope we can close the deal.
Interesting. Apparently he wasn't playing very well earlier in the year, but really turned it up lately on the NIKE circuit. He averaged something like 15.5 a game, just a few under Austin Grandstaff's 18.
We've widened our recruiting net lately, but I wonder where McQuaid would fall on Beilein's board. A combo guard sure looks to be the top priority.
I think the coaches would be happy enough with McQuaid as the only 2015 recruit. They'll have Spike and presumably Walton on the team in 2015. And they're in on a number of 2016 PGs.
I would guess that they take at least two players in the class with LeVert likely going pro and potentially Walton/Irvin if they have a good year. Though I agree no great need for a pure point guard with Thorton so high on us.
With Beilfeldt being listed as a senior I'd figure the coaches have to take at least 2 players in the class of 2015 with LeVert leaving as well. In 2016 you probably lose Walton and Irving and 1 of the SGs from 2014 probably won't be around as well, so you'd still have 2 spots for 2016. Additionally, a player like Chatman could be a 2 year player as well opening up a 3rd spot for 2016.
With the number of players the last 4 years under Beilein who leave early, I don't think it ever makes sense not to use up all your scholarships every year.
I would like to feel sorry for Larry Brown...perhaps not so much.
This is why Bielfeldt was reclassified. Book it, he is ours!
