I don't think shooting his computer screen will help.

Yes!! This is why I come here.

And this attitude is exactly why we lead the developed world in gun deaths...

OK, bro. Easy. Don't get all left wing on us. No politics, remember.
November 25th, 2015 at 12:51 PM ^
We'd all be safer if computers had guns.

Why does this matter? It's the game. All else has no meaning.

Throw out the record books for this game - both within the season and past seasons.
November 25th, 2015 at 12:27 PM ^
I don't get where this refrain comes from. Even a cursory glace at The Game's wiki page shows an obvious correlation between the teams' rankings and the outcome. The better team tends to win this game, just like all football games.

that in big rivalry games, "stats go out the window". But I've never seen a shred of actual evidence to support that (even though the stats are all out there for anyone to analyze). It seems to be one of those things that's just true because everyone knows it is.
November 25th, 2015 at 12:51 PM ^
beyond all the times that Hoke-led teams played osu?
November 25th, 2015 at 1:28 PM ^
or not as close as expected. The question is, does that happen significantly MORE often in big rivalry games than in general, to a degree that can't be accounted for by normal statistical variation? You need a lot more than a few Hoke OSU games to demonstrate that. So to answer your question, yes.
November 25th, 2015 at 1:23 PM ^
Historically, the Game has had lots of upsets. Only recently has it consistently held to form (unfortunately not in our favor) - though even then, the underdog has often given a good game.
November 25th, 2015 at 1:32 PM ^
We see them every week. Do you have evidence that the underdog has won far more often than they should have been expected to in Michigan-OSU games, or that the stats have been further from average than can be accounted for by normal statistical variation?
The plural of anecdote is not evidence.

So I guess we dont need to watch the games then, right? And we can all make a killing by just betting on the "better" team, right?
November 25th, 2015 at 3:12 PM ^
Of course we need to watch the games. But the quality of team is obviosuly relevant (contrary to "throw out the records"), and it gives you good insight as to the liklihood of winning.
And if there was no such thing as a point spread, then yes, you could make a killing by betting on the "better" team. Unfortunately, Vegas also thinks the relative quality of the teams leading up to the game is relevant to its outcome.
November 26th, 2015 at 12:12 AM ^
No. Occasionally--actually quite a bit the past 11 years--the BETTER team has not won...but on Saturday we right the wrongs, re-tilt he axis, rethink the mistakes, correct the imbalance, recalibrate the norm, revie the glory and restore all ORDER. The scarlet letter must be irradicated in our house. The space time continuum is FINALLY returned to its natural state.

Don't sleep on The Land Grant Trophy.

I mean it tells us that despite underperforming relative to expectations they are still probably a better team than us. Not that it matters all that much, jsut sort of shows is both teams play their best osu wins. I highly doubt both teams play a perfect game though so its all good.

Anyone expecting any of the turmoil from the MSU loss to disrupt or distract OSU this week is likely to be disappointed. They will be wholly focused on beating us, and they still have better talent at pretty much every position on the field. With Chesson out and no running game to speak of, our offense is going to have a very hard time generating points.
November 25th, 2015 at 12:52 PM ^
Chesson is out? Hadn't heard that. Have you?

Where did you hear that Chesson is out?
November 25th, 2015 at 12:42 PM ^
It says we're going to beat their sister fucking asses up and down the field all afternoon on Saturday.
That's what it says.
November 25th, 2015 at 1:20 PM ^
The problem with these comparisons is that it's our coach's first season and their coach's fourth. One would expect OSU's entire body of work to look better given that their offensive and defensive systems were well in place from the outset. For us the learning curve was steeper. Compare our passing offense now, for example, with what it was like in September.
November 25th, 2015 at 1:34 PM ^
our rushing game in September to what it is now. There has been no improvement, and probably even some regression. Not being able to run the ball at all is what will cost us this game.

I don't think the statistics or the comparison is very compelling to be honest. The teams play completely different styles on offense with different philosophies on defense.
I'm sure the pre-game comparison in 2013 wouldn't have predicted that type of game and the numbers from this season just aren't that different.

Over the years this game was always a toss up (until the last decade anyway). This was always the game where we took pride in spoiling their season or vice versa. This is a game where stats, ranking and numbers in general mean nothing. Should be great game! Go Blue!
