UM vs MSU 2010 Game Predictions (or Opportunities for you to look silly on Saturday)

Random Game Predictions Go Here:

I predict that as the game wears on, MSU will commit more and more guys to the line trying to stop Denard, resulting in either Roy Roundtree or Junior Hemingway putting on a show to be titled, "2004, a retrospective" in the fourth quarter. This will result in Braylon Edwards making an appearance on Sports Center to announce that Michigan has found a "Worthy Successor". My money is on Hemingway, though I don't know why.

Gentlemen, please shower me with pity.  It's time I come clean... a relative had the sheer blind audacity to schedule a wedding in October, and... *sigh* ...I will be attending it.  I will be unable to watch the game live...  I keep expecting to suddenly wake up out of a dream to realize that this isn't actually happening....

Unbelievably, my niece has her 1 year birthday party at noon until 3, and then we have to race from Detroit back to Toledo for my in-laws 40th anniversary celebration all evening. I'm debating between recording and NOT following on my phone or recording and following anyway.

500 to 1 says there's no way I can resist, and I will in fact know the score before I watch.

That's terrible. As a pastor, one perk is that I can generally schedule weddings so as not to be an unbearable conflict with a game. (Sorry, I have another commitment late afternoon that day. The morning is free, or let's find another weekend that works.)

BTW . . . how could your sibs and wife allow this to happen? Where are their priorities?

Who are these guys that agree to get married on football season?  Yeah, I know that the halls get booked, yadda yadda yadda... but isn't that a direct suspension of their man card or something?

I got married on a Sunday in September.  Saturday was spent at Mich/Wisc '06.

Alas, 2 fellow alums are getting married on Saturday during the game.  They planned it knowing full well what game was on that day claiming that they "didn't care".  The Michigan Football fan part of them is dead to me.

the wife and I have always had the agreement that nothing is scheduled during Michigan football...nothing, it can be before or after...NOT DURING.  Thats our thing and it works for us.  I figure there are 40 other Saturdays to do just about anything...Michigan Football Saturday is just that...have fun at the wedding.....hahahaha.

You could do what my buddy did and stream the game on his blackberry (if you or someone you know has one).  He also got so angry (it was UMass) that he walked out of the church about 5 min before halftime, saw what happened when he started watching and determined the wedding was cursed.  He got in trouble for skipping the rest of the ceremony but Michigan got the win so he didn't care.

That was me last weekend during the Indiana game - the entire wedding party, pretty much, were UM grads and all throughout photos everyone's smart phones were out and we were following along.  It was agony.  Photos ended and we raced back to someone's house just in time to see Junior's catch and Denard's touchdown.  Exhilarating, but also horrible.

I predict that MSU gets the ball first and fails to score after picking up a first down or two. Then we take the lead on the first drive, putting us in a good position for the rest of the game.

that MSU will have a couple of big plays, one passing and one rushing that will keep the game somewhat close.

Michigan's defense will have a couple of big third down stops and get a turnover or two due to intense pressure on Cousins.

Craig Roh and Mike Martin will have at least 2 sacks each.

Denard will run for 150 and pass for 300.

Michigan will put on the gloves of green and pick Mark Dantonio clean, beating the jolly green giants 45-31.

One on a pick in the endzone. The other a fumble on a Mike Martin thunder sack. This makes up for the one possession we don't score when Denard goes out for two plays on his obligatory "omg he's down how bad is it?!??!" injury and Rich Rod keeps the reigns on Forcier. The game plays out largely like Indiana except MSU shows slightly more balance. We still win by a touchdown on drive late.

...that the weather is going to be awesome. 65 and sunny.  The beer will be cold, drinks will be strong, pulled pork will be tasty and the tailgating will be great!

I will predict three things:

  • Sparty will try to own the clock Chappell style.  They'll have far more TOP than us, but it won't be as one-sided as Indiana.
  • Denard will break one for 60+ yards.  It'll be in the first half.
  • Call this a horrible thing to say or whatever, but I sincerely believe they're going to do everything they can to hurt Denard and take him off the field, even if it includes taking some late hits or roughing the passer.  Those are some dirty birds over there in East Lucifer.

Michigan will shut down MSU's running game early and will take an early 14-0 lead.  MSU will then start to abandon the run and become one dimensional, to marginal success.  They will make it a one score game late in the third quarter before Michigan slams the door shut with a long TD drive.  Final Score:  Michigan 42, MSU 31

MSU will go into full conservative "we can run the ball against a 3 man line mode" early on, Martin Hulks up and almost single handedly stops the MSU run game. By the time MSU turns to a passing offense, it's too late as we're already up 3 TDs. We match TD for TD in the second half.

a period when they bottle him up and we go oh noes, and a royal, well-deserved stomp-fest by us over them from the late third through the fourth quarters.

The only prediction thread that matters is THE KNOWLEDGE'S weekly protege contest, where a humble mgoblogger gets the chance to soar and leave others in the dust. So I submit this under protest: M 31, MSU 30

This one has me fit to be tied.

The dreamer in me says Michigan 35, MSU 30.

The pragmatist in me says MSU 30, Michigan 28.

God, how I hate the pragmatist in me!!!!

MSU will have a fairly significant TOP advantage, albeit not as much as Indiana had.  The game will be close throughout, with no team in complete control.  With the game tied at 28, Cousins will throw a 4th quarter interception, that will result in a big Denard to Roundtree TD pass with 3-4 minutes left in the game.  MSU gets into Michigan territory, before our "D" steps up and stops them on 4th and 3, allowing us to run the clock out.  Michigan wins, 35-28.
