UM Students Light Couches on Fire last night
Apparently last night, a few UM fans decided to take the celebrations a little too far.
Contrary to belief, they do burn stuff in Ann Arbor after a big win twitter.com/jackHammerTime…

You know just a couch here on fire in the middle of the street, the Michigan difference, go blue!! twitter.com/Danieljhall6/s…

I love this school, national championship baby #couchonfire twitter.com/Danieljhall6/s…

Pictures weren't appearing, here they are:
My friends live on that block. The baseball house did this.
This is just despicable. Which street was this on?
White St. between McKinley and Arch
I can only hope it was an MSU student trying to tarnish our good name with Covert Arsonary Ops.
only trying to put out the fire. I hear the fire was started Mark Dantonio and a group of guys in orange jumpsuits and skimasks. They called themselves "the offensive line" or somehting, stupid name for a group of pyros but whatever.
We're better than this...
Really? Proud of a couch fire?
"Daniel Hall" needs to be arrested and detained until about Wednesday.
OP, you may want to change "couches" to the singular.
I blame Daniel Hall
So not only do we have to worry about MSU students launching one from EL to AA, but also why it took a week to land.
my friend told me about this happening and it sucks to see. We are better than this
Just, pathetic.
Who lowered the Michigan admission standards!?
A couple of my Facebook friends gleefully posted pictures of said couch burnings. I was somewhat dismayed.
I recommend ancelling Facebook or your friendships.
Or reporting the, the only way this does not happen again is that those who were involved are punished.
Calm down you fascist!!!
sincerly, we the people
Who cares.
People who care about the reputation of their university? The Leaders and Best should not burn couches.
I don't get how fans who really follow our sports don't get that the meme of MSU students burning couches and rioting that we use so often is for insulting purposes, yet feel like behaving in just that pathetic behavior? And Daniel Hall, I don't know you or whether you were directly involved, but you sir are a pathetic loser and a disgrace...you belong at State
Couch burning is so bad. Still don't understand why a celebratory pyre isn't just crazy college fun. If its your own couch, why not?
If its someone else's property, a car or capable of injuring a person or other property that seems more problematic.
This is not a book burning people.
I only wish we were original about it. Perhaps burn a patch of potatoes and then feed the homeless.
Although this isn't something to brag about, sometimes college students act like college students, even really smart ones.
I agree. With over 43,000 students, the truth is that there are going to be a few idiots or people who make poor decisions.
But man, whose first response to winning is, "Dude! This is awesome, lets go celebrate! You know, burn couches!"
Yeah, but I had some drunk decisions in college I'm not particularly proud of. And I wouldn't want my university to be judged because of them.
I had some drunk decisions in college
For me it was usually "I'm drunk ... get more drunk." :-(
if we were honest we could come up with a pretty long list of embarassing stories from our time in Ann Arbor...
We burned a couch once... cause we could.
not the best decision, and certainly not one of good representation of the university... but there were a plethora of future scholars there and no one thought to stop it... until the urination began.
Maybe a hash basher and not a student?
Wishful thinking
This couch fire is significantly better than an EL couch fire. Good controlled burn, tall flame, not too much smoke and a good safety halo.
Daniel Hall sounds like a loser.
Awful news! Who let those EL hooligans into Ann Arbor? And more importantly, who gave them a couch!?
Way to go guys... You're the coolest
SO disappointing... Come on, we are better than those people in EL...
This was clearly in response to the Bud Light couch-related commercial that plays ad nauseum during the NCAA tournament.
But I thought Bud Light was an acceptable hipster beer choice now? Isn't that what the commercial was telling me?
Disapointed...enough said.
I'm not finding a single local news source corroborating this and, frankly, those pics and that video could be from anywhere. On Facebook they show a different pic and link the Daily, but all the Daily said was that it was a quiet, tame celebration. Might be wishful thinking, but could we be looking at a hoax?
One of my friends who lives near there posted pictures of it, so it's likely real. Pretty pathetic. On the other hand, both South U and the Diag were rocking last night, and that was tame outside of a few people climbing up trees and one of the light poles in the Diag.
Disappointing.
Nice to know middle schoolers in A2 are getting in on the action.
A couch on fire is not the Michigan Difference, you idiot
I'm happy that you're enjoying the win, but I hope you get evicted. There are better ways to celebrate.
We're all Sparty now, as they say.
of a poor, unsuspecting freshman by showing him "the way we do it in EL".
So disappointed right now
Are we sure it wasn't an accidental fire? Some poor family may have just lost their couch in a tragic accident. /s
What the hell students? You don't show up to games, you burn couches, you're lazy, and you make us look bad.... Please STOP.
If Daenerys Stormborn emerges from the fire with dragons, THAT'S the Michigan difference
Sadly, I righted a bunch of turned over garbage cans in A2. People were going crazy (I assume they had subs) but it wasn't completely out if hand. Was disappointed to have to take measures to keep A2 from being EL
