UM Softball Recruit leads Team to HS State Title

Submitted by Solecismic on

(#1) Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central, led by Michigan recruit Meghan Beaubien (Robeaubien?), reached the state Class 3 Final with a 1-0 victory over Shepherd today. Beaubien not only struck out 15 in seven innings, allowing two hits, but she scored the game's only run after hitting a triple.

MSMCC will play (#3) Napoleon at 5:30 Saturday for the state title. The game is in East Lansing, not Waterloo.

Beaubien during the championship run:

QF: (#2) Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett: one weak infield hit allowed on a play that could have been called an error, only 21 batters faced, eight strikeouts, 5-0 win.

Regional Final: Clinton: three hits allowed, 14 strikeouts, 6-0 win.

Regional Semifinal: Riverview Gabriel Richard: one hit allowed, nine strikeouts, 13-0 win in five innings.

Still, Beaubien is a little behind last year's pace. She did not allow a baserunner in either the semifinal or the final in 2016. She also threw a no-hitter in the semifinal in 2015 and a two-hitter in the final.

MSMCC is going for its third straight Class 3 state title.

Beaubien, a lefty, is in most top five lists in the country for softball recruits. She has been a huge Michigan fan since she was very little, and, like many top softball players, committed years ago.

Hutch will definitely need her from day one with Megan Betsa graduated and currently playing professionally in Akron, Ohio.

Update: MSMCC defeated Napoleon (one day short of 202 years since Waterloo) 13-1 in the final. Beaubien was 3-for-3 with a triple, allowing two hits and one unearned run, walking one and striking out 16. That's three straight state titles with Beaubien on the mound. Quite an accomplishment.

I absolutely cannot WAIT to see her in Maize & Blue.  She's been way too good for Michigan HS competition for years, and has just been whipping everybody at that level.  It'll be a challenge for her to face college batters constantly, but all pitchers have to make that adjustment.  We've certainly seen great freshman pitching in the past at Michigan, so here's hoping she's the next one.  She'll be handed a full plate from day one, that's for sure!

during the semis at MSU.  My daughter's team played in the opposite bracket.  She is a talented girl.  Can't wait to see what she can do at Michigan.

Excited to see Meghan play too. My niece, Lexie Blair, 2018 softball commit, just won Florida's 9A Player of the year. She just lead her HS team to 2 consecutive 9A state titles! She's a clutch hitter who plays extremely well under pressure! As lifelong Michigan fans living in Central Florida for the last 20 years, we are all so excited to see her in the maize and blue!

Not sure where you're getting your info but Monroe SMCC beat Liggett in the quaterfinals 5-0 on a no hitter, unless the scorer counted an obvious error as a hit.  I was at the game, It wasn't 2-1.

My apologies. I saw they had played in the quarters, searched, found the report in the same paper (Monroe) that I had gotten the regional results from. Only the search found last years quarters, which SMCC won 2-1 over Liggett, not this year's quarters against the same team. Didn't check the date.
