I believe we had a top 150 player commit, but the unnamed player could not qualify academically.

The WR at #13 is going to BYU (Utah is North of OK).

Hopkins is seriously not in the top 150 in his state? uh oh...doesn't sound too promising. I know Texas has a lot of talent, but not to be in the top 150 in any state and going to Michigan, that is very rare.

And particularly fans of recruiting need to make a concerted effort to separate noise from signal. One year a trend does not make.

Not a big deal.
I never expect to land many kids from Texas, and if we get one or two top tier players from that state every other year I consider it a bonus. Nothing to get worried/overly concerned about.

Wow, it's really not fair to be Texas. They don't really have any comparable in-state competition to mine what is a top 3 state for football talent.
And who knows what's truth and rumor, but if they did in fact voluntarily turn away from the supposed Seastrunk game, I respect them even more.

I also see this year as an aberration and not a trend. Texas is a very important state; I'm sure RR knows this and is still recruiting the state as diligently as Carr's staff did.
Ultimately, though, a class has to be judged by its overall quality and not by how they did in any particular state that year. If a player is a great prospect, I don't care if he comes from Texas, Samoa, or Alaska.

I cant remember what coach said it, but it was a relatively big time coach who said that Texas high schools have so much money that their players have often managed to reach their full potential by age 18. Conversely, he claimed that the Florida kids only eat once a day and often don't hit their growth spurts until they get to college.
Obviously that's a generalization, but it makes me wonder whether trading some Texas recruits for Florida recruits is really a bad thing?
BTW, does anyone recall the article I'm talking about? I think it was on ESPN.

I don't know what the article is, but I remember Deon Sanders saying "Football players come from Texas, athletes come from Florida." I also remember corso adding on to that by saying how the average Texas high school players come out polished and the average Florida players come out raw.

One of the reasons Hopkins is not in the Top 150 is because he isn't headed to the Big 12.
He was on the verge of an Oklahoma offer before he told them not to bother following his M commit. If he's good enough for Oklahoma (albeit as a backup option-type), he's good enough for me.
