Anyone know how to build one? I'm told that all we need is a DeLorean and Flux Capacitor.

The article is correct.  Our underachievement started showing on Saturday, September 1st, 2007.  The worst day of my life. If we can somehow change it...

I tend to disagree. While it's pretty obvious that lately we've not had the luster of previous Michigan seasons, the article completely disregards the "decimated defense" - that is to say, it completely ignores situations like Demar Dorsey, JT Turner, Boubacar Cissoko, plus all of the other kids we've lost to transfers, injuries, etc. That makes up for a big chunk of our underperformance, IMO.

While he's not wrong, I feel like he left out a lot of important information.

So, you didn't actually read the article, did you?  If you did, you would have caught this sentence:  "A combination of injuries and massive attrition undermined Michigan's continued presence at the top of the Big Ten recruiting charts under Rich Rodriguez."

On paper, the Wolverines ranked right alongside Ohio State as the most talented team in the Big Ten throughout Rodriguez's tenure

at times, UM's defense reminded me of paper in that high school football players routinely ran through it prior to football games.

I don't have the numbers in from of me and I can't look them up at work, but am I way off base in thinking Ohio State is head-and-shoulders above not only UM but the rest of the B10 in recruiting the last couple years?

in recruiting, in spending, in coaching, in winning, etc. and, its not just in football either.

they get their kids to the pros, they market the pros to the high school kids, they dominate in-state recruiting, they have a formula, they stick to it.

also, michigan was basically playing their very good 2008 class against OSU's very good 2005 through 2009 classes the past few years.

It's no secret Michigan has been bad lately, along with Notre Dame. I do catch some past games on ESPN Classic from time to time where both teams were in the top 10 playing each other. Michigan was good before damn it. I seent it!

Totally serious, this makes me happy.  Everyone knows we've sucked recently.  All this reminds us is that we are still a national program with massive recruiting pull.  That is to say all I learn from this is that there is potential to put this back together.

I don't think we've spent nearly as much time in the desert,if you will, as ND, but yeah, we have underperformed for a couple years now. It looks like we're about to turn that around though.....
