I, and it sounds like the vast majority of native English speakers, don't pronounce the H in context. If you just write the word on a board and tell me to say it, I'll say it with an H, but not in the sentence "It was an historic moment." Going from N to H is going from a voiced nasal to an unvoiced glottal, it's not a seamless transition, so most people just drop the H. Happens a lot in other languages too I'd guess; H just isn't a prominent sound. Korean drops H's all the time.

Have to correct your headline a bit:

Michigan's 41-30 win over Notre Dame drew an average of 8.65 million viewers in prime time on ESPN, and was the cornerstone game in what turned out to be the network's most-viewed college football regular season Saturday of all time.
So we weren't necessarily the highest rated ESPN GAME of all time. We were one game in the biggest day of college football for ESPN ever.

The report in the link is that Michigan-ND was the most watched game on a record-setting ratings DAY by ESPN for college football. Still impressive, but your title is misleading that the game itself set an individual record.

EDIT: Covered above a few minutes before my post.

Indeed. If it is simply another game, I cannot wait to see what the ratings on storied rivalries might be.

Here's a link to a slightly more detailed breakdown - HERE. It was the most viewed programming that night across several demographics actually. In essence, if you were an American male aged 18 to 54, more than likely you were watching this game. The Michigan game also had a rating 152% higher than the next most-watched game on Saturday.

Not bad for a regional matchup.

Looking at the ratings of the other "rivalry" games from last year:

USC 9.4 / 16.1 mil
Michigan 4.0 / 6.4 mil
MSU 3.2
Purdue 1.9

The USC game was the last game of the regular season and with ND being undefeated it drew far more than it would have otherwise. You would think this year that the ratings would be lower for that game. The 2011 Notre Dame - USC  game had a 2.54 rating but it also had to compete against the World Series being played that same night.

For comparison last year Michigan was involved in 3 of the top 15 most viewed games:

Ohio State 5.8 / 9.5 mil
Alabama 4.8 / 9.7 mil
Notre Dame 4.0 / 6.4 mil

Can't find the numbers on the MSU game but it was also on BTN so the numbers would be lower.

ND would rather play Puke and / or Wake Forest at home than play a bodybag game in Ann Arbor, even if the bodybag game ends up being one of the top rated TV games of all time.

Jack Swarbrick must be getting his brand-building advice from the folks who marketed the Yugo.

the dance to boot. Always a great game but obviously ND doesnt get it ... but I get their arrogance and am personally ready to move on. Made perfect sense the chickens were in the BIG but not to them. Therefore, see yah. I think Brandon will find a marque opponent for under the lights. Bank it.
