UM football players who were HS teammates

Submitted by WolvinLA2 on

I know this has nothing to do with Posada or Turner, so this might get buried faster than it gets posted, but it's something I've been thinking about.

I learned from HTTV 2010 (thanks JamieMac) that Elvis Grbac and Desmond Howard were HS teammates.  They would have to be the best such pair ever, but it got me thinking who were the other great HS teammates who went on to be UM players.  I'm not looking for guys who all went to the same high school (like Mario Manningham and DJ Williamson wouldn't count) but guys who played together both places.

The ones that come to mind immediately are Lewan and Roh (probably the best ones I can think of), the Pahokee boys (Odoms, Smith and Hawthorne, and now Ash), the Trotwood trio (Shaw, Roundtree and Moore) and the Cass Tech guys (Teric, TGordon and Will Campbell).  For those who know more about past players and their high schools, what other players have we had like this?  Which ones were the best teammate pick-ups?

On a related note, Brandon Harrison and Javon Ringer were high school teammates.  I was always surprised that this didn't get more attention leading up to the State game when both were important contributors.

Saginaw: Jerome Jackson and LaMarr Woodley

Detroit MLK: Ernest Shazor and Larry Harrison (maybe we'd rather not bring either up)

I think John Navarre and Pierre Rembert went to the same HS.  Not sure if they were teammates though.

I was at a party in a dorm room at State once (I know, I know) and my friend (whose room it was) starting giving me crap about going to Michigan in front of a bunch of State players.  Kevin Vickerson stated rather emphatically that Michigan students were not to be made fun of because his best friend, Ernest Shazor, went there.  Good times.

Bishop Gallagher: Braylon Edwards, Markus Curry (also Julius Curry, although he would have been a senior when the other two were freshman).

Edit: Darnell Hood was also there, a year behind Edwards and M. Curry.

Kind of weird because I remember watching Bishop Gallagher in the state championship game and Markus Curry was very clearly the star of that team on both sides of the ball (he played WR too).

Second Edit:  Did some digging.  Braylon transferred into Bishop Gallagher for his senior year only.  The state championship appearance would have been his junior year.  Prior to this, he played for Detroit-MLK, making him a teammate of Shazor and Harrison.

Edwards Bio, State Championship Rosters, State Championship Stats (Curry had 6 receptions for 138 yards and 3 TDs to go with 2 punt returns for 76 yards.  Definitely made an impression.)

Maybe the least expected source of teammates; Vieux Montreal: Alain Kashama and Emmanuel Casseus.

Also, Portage Northern sent the Sarantos brothers and Kelly Baraka.

Leach was Obi's backup at Grand Rapids Catholic Central.  That must have made the occasional substitution last season just that much more painful.

best friends with long snapper Larry Sweeney back in junior high and the first 2 years of high school......back in 1980, 1981........he's forgotten me by now, but I specifically went to see him play for Bo back in 1981......but never played against him or on the same team with.....

I did see AC and Steve Smith and Robert Thompson that day........oh, and M won....so it was a good day.

Drew Henson and Dave Pearson - Brighton HS, a year apart.

We had a few guys from Orchard Lake St. Mary's in the late '90s/early '00s.  One was Jermaine Gonzales.  I'm drawing a blank on the others.
