UM Fans in Pennsylvania

Submitted by newfoundhbomb on

Hey i live in York Pennsylvania  and i was wondering if there were any other Michigan fans in Pennsylvania.  It would be nice to have some other Michigan fans close by.  All i get is Penn Staters telling me that they will beat us 9 in a row.  GO BLUE

Consider yourself lucky...being stuck in Erie I get half Penn State, half Ohio State.  It's hell to try and watch a game at the bar wearing a Michigan jersey.

(To answer your question, YES, but not close to York)

They think they're going to win 9 in a row? They obviously haven't been checking the Class of 2015 recruiting boards lately. I remember back in '97, I knew for sure that we were going to win 9 in a row on them.

There are Michigan fans everywhere. I lived in Philly for a year and came across a good amount of  fans. Some of them may have been tourists but I was actually surprised at how many people I saw in M gear. They aren't really Penn State fans in Philly though because of temple, st joe's and villanova so that could be the difference.

I live in York too.  Penn St fans everywhere and enough OSU fans to make it Ohio-lite.  Glad to hear that there is at least one other Wolverines fan around.

UM class of 05. There are plenty of us here just have to sort through the PSU , ND crap to find us. But come Sept 15th I'm moving back to Florida so that leaves 8 of you to hold down the fort here in PA.

Just outside of Youngstown, OH, there's a pretty good Michigan following there too.  A lot of that has to do with Marlin Jackson coming out of there, and the fact that we recruit the Youngstown area pretty well.

He played oline & Dline for them. I also recall my old high school( when I was in Junior High) played Sharon for the state title. Dallas. I'm usually in that area every few months with my Fiancé since her parents are still there.

I graduated from Sharon in '01 with Marlin (played corner opposite him, for some reason teams tended to pick on me a lot, never figured out why). Wilmington knocked us off my freshman year when we were ranked #1 in the state all year long...I'm still bitter.

The Fox and Hound in center city is actually a Michigan bar. I went down there for a couple of games last year. They have a big section reserved for Michigan fans and alumni and get some good crowds especially for the big games.

I'm pretty active in the Philly Alumni Association and we decided we're not going to do Fox and Hound anymore. We've had a few conflicts with their management and generally don't feel like they cared enough. So we've chosen Q's BBQ in Old City on Chestnut between 2nd and 3rd. They're committed to being a dedicated Michigan bar and we'll never be competing with other events or background music. I think they'll offer us a pretty solid setup overall. Plus better drink and food prices. If you want more info and/or want to be included on our distribution list, email [email protected] and say as much. Tell your friends!

...don't yell.

In case you're new to the internet, typing in all caps means you're yelling.  I don't want people yelling at me, especially when I'm just trying to read my favorite blog.

As for the topic, I'm in MI so I can't help you.

I grew up in Ohio but maybe 30 min from Pittsburgh. I lived there right around the time PSU was joining the B10 and was told countless times how PSU would dominate.

It was pretty rough being a non-Steeler and a UM fan.

I'm working on moving down to Philly myself.  I've been to Fox and Hound.  Had a pretty good time, so check (checks map) oh, York is far away.  Nevermind.

On that note, anyone have a job for a researcher/coordinator in the Philly area?

I'm in Pittsburgh, and I actually don't know of any other Michigan fans here - it's pretty sad.  All Ohio State, Pitt, and Penn State fans.  I do know there is a very large contingent in Philadelphia though.  The Alumni Association rents out space in a bar every Saturday in downtown Philly for people to come and watch the game.

You are missing out.  As a fellow Burgh resident, there are quite a few of us Michigan alums in the city.  The alumni association in this area closed down a while back (apparently) which doesn't make much sense to me considering all the folks I know around here.

Is there any bar around town that people regularly meet up in to watch the game?  I'd love to go out and be social instead of staring at my crappy little tv at home, but I'm always worried whatever bar I go to won't have the game on because no one's interested in it.
