UM Basketball

Does Michigan make the NCAA tournament? follow up, if you think they make it in, how do they get there? And finally, how far do they go? Just your gut feeling here, we don't need a statistical breakdown or anything in depth. I think they get hot going into the Big 10 tourney and make it to the big dance via an auto bid. The momentum carries over into another sweet 16 run. Manny is the type to carry a team on his back, ala Glen Rice, but first he has to get his head right. Not sure whats going on with him and the team or coach B, but I think it gets worked out and he shows the college basketball world just how good he can be. Optimism, thy name is ToledoWolverine. P.S. the football team wins 10 games this year. Laugh now, weep with joy later.

And Manny is no Glen Rice...Wish I could see it differently, but it is not there...Check out Glen Rice's statistics sometime...and not just the points. But in Manny's defense, there are not as many weapons on UM as Rice had in 88-89...Would have been nice to see what Manny was like on a more talented team... So, I do not think the Team makes the tourney..Hope I am wrong... Go Blue!

That 89 team had tons of talent, mostly big men - Mills, Vaught, etc, in addition to Rice, who was still quite a bit better player than a very good Manny. I love these guys we have now, but no way they can pull off a run like that with 1 real big man.

I hate to say it, but I don't see them in the tournament this year. I had big expectations for this team, but they just can't seem to execute this year like they did down the stretch last year. I hope I'm wrong, but at this point a lot of unlikely things would have to go down for Michigan to make the tourney. I could see them making a good NIT run, but no NCAA tourney this year unless things turn around drastically.

triple shot of captain and a beer to go along with my typically sunny disposition (can somebody claim to be drunk while using the phrase 'typically sunny disposition' coherently? discuss...) but even I don't think they actually WILL get in. I think there are definitely plenty of quality wins available on the remaining schedule, but from the way the season has played out so far its hard to imagine them getting the necessary wins. what really bugged me today was thinking about how different the season would look right now if they had kept on top of NW and UW. oh well, tomorrow is another day. GO BLUE! BEAT STATE!

Re: the "kept on top of NW and UW" comment... That's been the problem all damn year. At first it was how different things would be if they'd have done better in the Old Spice Classic. Then it was how different things would be if they had a signature December win. Then it was how different things would be if they had started out the Big Ten season 4-0 instead of 2-2. Now it is how different things would be with a UW win or if they had managed to pull one off against Purdue. The Connecticuit win was nice. But we still need a bunch more to make the tournament. On record alone, it feels like we'd need to win all of 'em at home, win the ones we're supposed to on the road, then steal one or two more. That means basically win all the rest. I'd love to see it happen; I'd also like to see us win the Big Ten Tourney. Neither one of them looks like a possibility at this point.
