UM bar in Albany NY

Submitted by bdsisme on

I've checked the sticky and searched the site to no avail -- does anyone know of a UM-friendly bar in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy region of New York?  I'll be away on fall break next week, and although I know it will probably be on at any bar (or living room), I'm curious if there is a known contingent of Wolverines in the tri-city area.

Hey, at least he checked the sticky, which we normally have to direct people to, and searched the site for any previous mention of a bar in Albany.  After using all mgoblog resources available, I think it would be fairly reasonable to open the question up to a large group of people who may know the answer.

I don't know about you, but I don't look at the sticky thread at all.  I don't imagine many other people do either unless they are looking for a bar.  I suppose I could go check it out to see if anyone is looking for a bar in my area.  Ultimately, I think Albany is a big enough city to warrant a thread, while other small/unheard of locations are probably not appropriate.  I would say it falls into a gray area where the OP can either post it in the sticky and probably not get an answer, or post it on the board and get some people annoyed.  Oh well.

But to answer the OP, it's always a good idea to search the alumni association website for info.  I found this on the alumni association's website:

It looks like they have viewing parties at Jillian's in downtown Albany, but I would email Derick Kopff to make sure.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: If you check it out and Jillian's is, in fact, the place to be on Michigan football Saturdays, add it to the sticky/map for future reference.

I see your point, and considered posting on the sticky, but look at all the places people have mentioned that haven't garnered a response (or if there was a response, it was at least a week later).  Honestly, how many people think "Hey, I'll go check the UM bar sticky to see if anyone posted something new on there" every couple days?  And the capital region is a fairly large place (~1,000,000 people) compared to Laramie (~30,000) -- I thought there's a good chance that there's some upstate NYers that'd have some valuable input (thanks timtebro!).

I wanted to ask this question last week, but held off because of the intense amount of threads re: MSU.  I thought a quiet Sunday night might be acceptable.

EDIT: Looks like mgokev and I think alike.  Thanks for the help Kev!

. . . because, in a way, you're a valuable contributor to the board. Well, you are a freqent contributor to the board anyway. But do me a favor.

What I would like you to do is go back through your last 50 posts. If 33% of them are made up of you condescendingly telling people to check the board for a previous post, or basically belittling another person because their standard of posting isn't up to what you expect, why don't you take a 24 hour break from mgoblog and let other people deal with these "miscreants."

If 50% of your posts are made up of the previously described posts, why don't you take a week off.

I have been in Albany for the last 9 years (unfortunately).  The only bar where there is any attempted organization of Wolverines is in fact Jillian's.  That is where the local alumni club meets.  I only went once though because it is a pretty small group and I prefer to scream at my own tv than scare away a bunch of strangers.  The Recovery Room across from Albany Med always has a couple Michigan fans show up too, and in my opinion is a much better atmosphere to watch the game.
