UM 25 in ESPN Power Ranking

Submitted by massblue on

ESPN has it power rankings out and UM is 25.  Here are the rest:

1. Florida State
2. Georgia
3. Oklahoma
4. Oregon
5. Alabama
6. Texas A&M
7. Auburn
8. Michigan State
9. Baylor
10. LSU
11. Stanford
12. USC
13. UCLA
14. Ohio State
15. Notre Dame
16. Nebraska
17. Ole Miss
18. Arizona State
19. Wisconsin
20. Oklahoma State
21. Clemson
22. Louisville
23. Kansas State
24. South Carolina
25. Michigan

I think Oregon, UCLA and Wisconsin are too high. A&M looked impressive and made the biggest jump along with Georgia.  UM will be #10-15 by the time we visit Sparty.

Rankings all together

Former BCS Polls or what's left of them:

  • Colley Matrix: too early to be of use (says tied for 1 on website), but the composite site lists 28 for Colley
  • Sagarin ELO_Score (ELO_Chess is gone, so this is close but does include margin of victory): 30
  • Massey FBS Rating (BCS rating is gone, so this includes margin of victory): 37
  • Billingsley: 34 (30 in his +MOV ranking)
  • Anderson & Hester has not posted anything since end of last season, except to say how great the BCS era was.
  • Wofe does not post until Oct. 19

The outlier rankings, besides Desmond:

  1. PiRate: 6 (but their website says 18)
  2. Marsee: 71

And the ranking of the rankings: 31

Like everyone says, nothing to worry about now.

I see the coaches poll and AP poll dont have UM as 25 but this poll does, so I think this poll has validity while the other 2 don't.  In fact, it sounds about right.

I only hope there are 4 more polls to discussion tomorrow.

It's the end of the season that counts.  Then again, a road victory over #15 might get the Wolverines some respect.  I sorta like them being underrated, though.  Michigan probably won't be able to "sneak up on people" after this year.

If Howard ranked us high but more reasonable at 15 we would be in the top 25. Not that it matters at all.
