UM 1 of 8 schools with at least 1 player drafted each of the last 46 years

Submitted by gebe659 on

Just saw this fact on TV and thought it was interesting.  The other 7 schools are USC, Florida, Nebraska, Texas, Michigan State, Arizona State and Tennessee.

*Interdimensionally

Edit: Here is proof, the only known pic of Dantonio recruiting throughout the planes of existence.

Double Edit: My research is showing that Dantonio's Trans-dimensional recruiting is failing him.  It looks like Hoke is going to not only pull in Cthulhu, but all the Great Old Ones.  Our Defensive line is going to be terrifying, both in a football and existential sense.  Urban Meyer's teams will stare at our Eldritch Abominations and lose all hope—and sanity.

ASU doesn't put together full teams but always produces some pro talent.  This year was interesting, out of all the players drafted, the best one went unpicked.  Vontaze Burfict is a gamble but definitely was worth the risk taking in the 6th or 7th round.  I'm extremely shocked that no one took him as a project player.  Bolden is going to be a starting CB eventually and Brock will learn from Manning and potentialy become starting caliber.

They have a few decent guys still in the pros.

I wouldn't worry too much about Fitz going pro.  The NFL has devalued the RB position in the draft.  Unless you are Trent Richardson, there is too much risk of free falling to the 3rd round with a 1st round grade because teams would rather invest in positions that will likely play beyond their rookie contract.

Doesn't Fitz have a child? If has a monster year (hoping so), then it would not surprise me if he made the decision to go. Although there is a risk for RBs to fall due to modern NFL, the question is could he really guarantee himself a 1st round pick by staying this year, especially if he tears it up this year (once again, hoping so). Sometimes just have to take the money and try to work your way to more money.

Roundtree would have to have a step up from last season to get drafted. He is small (NFL size) and not particularly fast (especially for NFL). Hemginway barely got into the 7th round. However, Roundtree could fit a niche like Hemingway in that he was very efficient in the slot finding soft spots in the zone. If he does better this year, teams might chance him as a 3rd or 4th receiver for the slot.

I could see Kovacs going to the Patriots in the 6th or 7th round or something like that...

Omameh will get a look as an UFA. Same goes for Roundtree, Demens and JT Floyd.

Will Campbell certainly has the size, if he has a huge year, he'll definitely get drafted. He could go anywhere from 2nd round to career over depending on this year, IMO. If I had to guess, I'd say he has a decent year and is a late round guy or UFA.

Craig Roh could get drafted as high a the 5th with a big year, but he's likely an UFA.

That's probably the list...

If I had to guess now (based on what I think they'll do this year) I'd say:

Lewan - 2nd/3rd Round grade...STAYS IN SCHOOL

Robinson - 4th Round

Campbell - 6th/7th Round/UFA

Kovacs - 7th Round

Roh - 7th Round/UFA

Roundtree - UFA

Omameh - UFA

Demens - UFA

Floyd - UFA

Last thought...I actually think there is a higher chance Fitzgerald Toussaint goes pro than there is of Lewan.

Someone says the NFL has devalued RBs, but RBs still only have a shelf life for so long. If he has a big year --- and I think he will, I think Fitz is gone. He comes from a rough area and plays a position where you GO when you can. Unless he has some type of year where he think he can come back and win a Heisman or National Championship, there is no way he should staff if he has a big year. And with that said...I think he does have a solid/big year, leaves early and is a 3rd Rounder.

As mentioned above, with Hemingway squeeking into the seventh round why would Roundtree have a guaranteed draft status? If he does well this year, then maybe a late round selection.

Other than that I agree with you that Yost is too pessimistic. Mainly because Demens and Roh have the ability to do well this year and get themselves drafted (edit: see Martin and the Mattison effect). I struggle to see Kovacs getting drafted. Yes, he is good, but his size is particularly questionable. Intelligence can only make up for deficiencies only so far. Although he probably has the head and instincts to be an NFL safety, his physical limitations will probably keep him from being drafted. Could though. He probably would wow people in interviews and some team might latch onto him in the late rounds. I think Yost is underrating Roh's potential to move up. Also, I think Denard would be a 2-3 rounder. Too fast and athletic for some team to let him drop to 4th round.

Also, Fitz could go if he has a big year. His size might be his biggest limitation, although smaller backs have been doing well in the NFL lately, and that cannot really improve by staying another year at UofM. He comes from a rough area and I think he has a kid (friend saw something in a special on him) so the money might be too tantalizing/necessary to stay.

Demens, Roh and Roundtree are almost certain to get drafted.

I don't know.  Would any of them have gotten drafted this year?  Doubtful.  They'll have to step it up next year.  I think Roh has the best chance of the three.  Roundtree is a 'tweener and Demens probably lacks the speed for the next level.

I could see Demens having a pretty good year, not crazy amazing or anything, and getting picked up in the 6th or 7th.  Same with Roh.

I think if Lewan has a couple big years the next two he could find himself getting picked in the 1st round.

Demens was the leading tackler this season, I think he's underrated.  If the D-line has issues this year, it'll be up to Demens, Ryan, and Morgan to keep the damage to a minimum, so I hope I'm completely wrong and Demens is vastly underrated.

I think Robinson will be drafted in the first three rounds next year.  Not as a qb, but just for a skills position player.  Wasn't Pat White drafted in the second round?

MGoBlue has an interesting breakdown of Michigan's draft history here:

http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/041907aaa.html

When you consider that there has only been a draft for 76 years, and we've had at  least one player drafted in 46 consecutive years, I think that speaks volumes about the program and the talent it has been able to attract and develop through the years (46 years goes back to the last few years of the Bump Elliott era, just before Bo, if my pre-coffee mental math is  right).

Some of the interesting highlights of the MGoBlue (which is current through 2011 for the time being) piece were:

- 50 Wolverines have gone in the first round since the inception of the draft

- 61 players drafted during Lloyd Carr's tenure alone

-  7 drafts had more than one Wolverine go in the first round
