The Ultimate Trophy Game
The 1997 split-National Championship is a thorn in the sides of both Nebraska and Michigan fans. Both teams were undefeated, one was known for their high-powered offense, and the other was feared because of their stout defense.
So, what I suggest is that since Nebraska and Michigan will play every year (until there is another conference realignment), maybe they should play the ultimate trophy game. They should play for the unanimous 1997 National Championship every year.
Now, obviously, I don't suggest rewriting the history books every year. This would be metaphorical and represented by the transferring of trophies. Whenever Michigan wins, they would get Nebraska's Coach's Poll Trophy. When Nebraska wins, they would Michigan's AP Poll Trophy. It would work like a normal trophy game, but instead of only one, there would be two trophies transferred.
What do you guys think?

No, just a pride thing.

Eh, I think a trophy game could be in the future ... I'm all about developing a big rivalry with Nebraska, but I'm not entirely sold on the Coaches/AP trophy swapping. Also, I'd give it a few years, it should consistently decide the Legends division.

and say we beat them fair and square, with no trophies?

It would be a fun trophy to say the least, but is completely undoable. Cool idea, though.

cornhusking and/or maize would suffice. A giant phallic corncob? too much? too happy?

Trophy: an Axe splitting wood. Call it the divisional. The wolverhusker. Huskerine. The truth. The splinter.

Seriously, after the debacle that is the Cy-Hawk/Corn Trophy/Awkward Family Game, Corn needs to be retired as an element in Big Ten trophies.
Oh yeah, and let's not forget about the Iowa/Nebraska Heroes Game trophy - A bowl of corn. Yep, and guess what? It's called the Corn Bowl.

Maize/corn-holed.

I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.

Also out of context.

I have a dream. A dream that in the not so distant future, Nebraska will become our number two rival.

They should just play for the actual Coaches' poll / AP poll trophy. The one that wins, gets to have both on display.
If they don't play (maybe the big ten disolves or some other armageddon occurs), the receipent in 97 gets it back after the season ends.

for the vote of the douchebag coach that voted Michigan below FSU in that final coaches poll vote after the season. I think that vote is what put Nebraska over the top.

That would be Phil Fulmer's issue. He was furious that Peyton Manning did not get the Heisman so he talked to enough SEC coaches that they all down voted Michigan and we didn't get the coaches poll. I blame Phil Fulmer and his arrogance.

Ultimate trophy game: Michigan vs OSU--even though there isn't a trophy.
I'm already looking past Nebraska and am more or less indifferent to what happens. It's a first for me, I can't remember a Michigan game (especially one against a top-20 team) that I didn't really care about. There's something about this one that's really getting to me.

I'm still pissed about that incredibly lucky catch Nebraska had vs. Missouri.

Seems like most people think this is a crazy idea, but I think it sounds awesome. Perhaps that's because I was 10 in '97.

Its pretty disrespectful to the players on the 1997 teams to give their trophy away every year. Its conceivable that two 6-5 teams would be playing for the trophys. Not exactly the spirit of those great 1997 teams.

Crushing Nebraska. I feel happy.
