Ranking of the top 250 fan bases "from sport to entertainment, celebrities to brands."

Michigan checks in at 48.

Others of note:

1.  Cubs

8.  Buckeyes

17.  Irish

22.  Tide

46.  Duke

113.  Wings

245.  Spartans - appropriately ranked near WWE, Horror Fans, and Hunger Games.

So.... fifth highest college fan base.  Fair enough since turmoil has brought out the worst of us in recent years.

Cubs being #1 on this list doesn't work for me. Sure, the real fans are die hards... But, that accounts for like 10% of th fanbase.... The other 90% are Wrigley fans.

Cubs at #1 invaldiates the whole endeavor. Most misguided fans in sport. Great for them that they won this year, sure there are a ton of them. But every year (going back for more than 100 of 'em), they were convinced that this would be the year. And until this season they always, always lost.

I'd argue the turmoil showed how hardcore of fans we have.

Protest on the President's lawn organized on a message board that drew hundreds in the middle of the week, etc etc.

Perhaps you are too young to recall but some fans most certainly called for Carr's head late in his career.  I've recently seen fans call out Beilein.  Then there is the RR ordeal.  I don't want to get into a debate about whether or not he would have ever worked out under ideal circumstances, but it well known that he was not accepted by high profile alumni from day 1.

Back then every coach we'd had for 50 years was successful. You act like Carr resurrected the program or achieved its first ever championship. Rather, aside from the outlier 1997 Carr's teams could not be considered successful compared to the Michigan teams for a quarter century before him. What he did bring us to counter 1997 was another outlier - The Horror and Oregon debacle. Overall, his teams were 'good enough,' which allowed him to retire on the players' shoulders. That's right, contrary to the impression some would get from your whining, he was never fired. At LSU or Georgia he certainly would've been canned mid season more than once Now if people turn on Harbaugh after an 8-4 season, I will say they're ungrateful bitches, because things were in utter shambles and still would be under possibly any other coach

Kind of odd to see all these random things ranked together, but whatever.

Seeing The Kardashians, Kanye, and Justin beiber all ranked ahead of Michigan makes me weep for society.

Also nice for MSU to check in at 245 out of 250. That's worth at least one more dignity win.

Two things: 1. That list suffers from heavy recency bias. "Hamilton" at #42? Come on now. It wasn't a thing last year, and won't be a thing next year. 2. Kanye West at #32, ahead of the University of Michigan? Bull-Fucking-Shit.

I guess the only real question is how to tell my wife that "Supernatural" sits comfortably between Neil Gaiman and GQ, but well below things like The Seahawks and Katy Perry.

Oh well, I will find a way to do that.

This is a pretty asanine ranking. Comparing levels of enthusiasm for so many disparate phenomena is idiotic. Apples and oragnes doesn't quite describe it; it's more like apples and nachos.

110k at the big house 7 or 8 times a year and a high quality website like this purely dedicated to Michigan fandom.

48 is too high.  That list is garbage.
