Ugly Game of the Week (Week 7)

Submitted by stubob on

Haven't seen this feature lately, and thought it was fun. My picks for Ugly Game of the Week for week 7:

Bowling Green (2-4, 1-1 MAC) vs Ball St (0-6, 0-2 MAC). Wasn't it just last year that Ball St. was 12-2 and ranked? Will the implosion continue? (Second place is Akron vs Buffalo for the MAC).

Virginia (2-3, 1-0 ACC) vs Maryland (2-4, 1-1 ACC) in the "One of these teams will be very close to .500, the other will raid their local Torch and Pitchfork for the coach" Bowl.

Illinois (1-4, 0-3 Big Ten) vs Indiana (3-3, 0-2 Big Ten). Should need no explanation. Illinois may pick a QB at random from the crowd, so stay tuned.

Honorable mention goes to: NW vs MSU. Pam & Ray get to call this game, so they get the Damning With Faint Praise Award. ESPN feels this game is worthy of national coverage, but just barely.

Thoughts?

On that note, Michigan's game might be pretty ugly as well if the announcers can't get the player's names correct again. This would make 3 weeks in a row that this happened.

Over/under number new players created by the announcers - 2

On paper bg has the best receiver in the nation (I don’t think he is though) and bg always has a good offense. I think they put up 7 touchdowns 49-14 BG,
Maryland over Va
Illi over Indi
MSU over NW

I figure Virginia is somehow going to put things together; Both their offense and Maryland's offense is terrible, but the Cavs have some semblance of a defense. Virginia takes that one.

Cardinals get their first win tomorrow if the student section and I have anything to say about it. Stan will get his first win as a head coach since 1986!
Just kidding, they'll lose again.

Bowling Green (2-4, 1-1 MAC) vs Ball St (0-6, 0-2 MAC). Final 31-17. The Fightin' David Lettermen continue to do not much and go to 0-7. Both teams pretty bad on 3rd down (4/12 and 4/16). Lots of sound and fury, not much significance. Both teams put up around 400 yards of offense. Bowling Green got out to a lead, and held on.

Virginia (2-3, 1-0 ACC) vs Maryland (2-4, 1-1 ACC). "Crab cakes and football, that's what Maryland does." Well, crab cakes, anyway. Final 20-9. The Brian Forster bowl goes to UVA again. Unlike the BG/BSU game, both teams struggled to get around 200 yards of offense. Maryland gacked it up with 4 turnovers. Two TDs scored for the whole game. Whooo.

Illinois (1-4, 0-3 Big Ten) vs Indiana (3-3, 0-2 Big Ten). Indiana took down the semi-Fightin' Illini. The Slighly-Resistin' Illini? Anyway, both teams well over 400 yards, Indiana almost 500. Does this mean Indiana is actually legit? The apparently un-benched Juice Williams threw for 250-ish yards.

Honorable mention goes to: NW vs MSU. Since it's here, Sparty won 24-17. Pam Ward will probably feature prominently on awfulannouncing again. Looks like a decent game, so "World's Tallest Midget" award goes well-deserved.

Final score: UVA v MD wins for this week. I bet it was raining and miserable, too.
