Ufer Quarterback Club Dinner

Submitted by oldblue on

Last night was the 67th Annual Bob Ufer Quarterback Club Banquet.  For anyone who loves Michigan athletics and is close enough to Ann Arbor to get there, it is a night not to be missed.  It raises money for scholarships to Michigan for local kids, and it gives awards to a number of Michigan athletes, who attend (along with their coaches) and speak to the group about their experiences at Michigan.  The athletes are ALWAYS fantastic, and make everyone feel good about the athletic program.  In a world with many things going wrong, it is a wonderful and worthwhile evening that more people should attend.  You will NOT be disappointed.

You cannot really explain it, but listening to these seniors (last night, there was golfer Ashley Bauer, Soccer player Mauro Fuzetti, swimmer Margaret Kelly, gymnast David Chan, footballer Zoltan Mesko, and softballer Nikki Nemitz) is fabulous and about the best possible advertisement for the athletic department.  You do not need to follow these sports or know these people to appreciate them fully.  The student-athletes are simply wonderful people, and, while it makes you realize how inadequate you are (at least it does that for me), you can only be impressed with what these kids have done and who they are.  In addition to the kids, we heard from MC Jerry Hanlon, John Beilein, Calvin Magee, Carol Hutchins, and several other coaches, but the kids are the stars.  There was also a wonderful video tribute to Bob Ufer.

That would definitely be worth the price of admission.  His passion for Michigan sports would make Ufer proud; he is a very appropriate selection to MC the event.
