UCONN has never beat West Virginia

Submitted by newfoundhbomb on

Hey i remember watching College Football Live a few weeks back and Randy Edsall was on and they were talking about the Big East and opening up with Michigan, and he made the comment that he has yet to beat West Virgina.  So I was thinking will this help Michigan this saturday considering that West Virgina still runs Rich Rods system.  What do you guys think?  I think the lack of experience on defense is the main factor. Sorry guys i know this isn't a great post just trying to get threw till saturday.

So that's why Tate had no wings on his helmet... he's going to come out with the 1st team offense wearing a "WV" helmet.

RR is tricky tricky

I hope UConn doesn't counter by putting numerous buckeye stickers on their helmets.  The chess match has started!

Right, because our coaches are the only ones who learn from past losses? These arguments are laughable. It woudl be better for us if Edsall had NEVER played RR rather than if RR had beaten him four times. Edsal et al. have now had much to learn from, and they will be playing a less-developed RR team. That is what we should take from the past RR vs Edsall contests.

I understand that Edsall and RR have a history and that history heavily favors RR.  I also understand the point that sometimes coaches never learn to defend a certain style of offense (e.g. Carr and mobile QBs).  But every game is different.

It sounds like UConn has undergone a rough off season (injuries, suspensions, etc) that has hurt their depth and experience, but UM is still an incredibly young team with a lot of holes in the depth chart and even more question marks.

Don't get me wrong, I fully expect UM to beat UConn, but I just think it will have little if anything to do with UConn's past record against WVA.

Stats like that do nothing for me.  College football always has those WTF moments where you ask yourself, "How could this team beat that team but at the same time lose to this other crappy ass team?"

It's kind of like looking at this past decade.  We own the SEC, the SEC owns Ohio State yet we're 2-8 against OSU.  (Excuse me a minute while I throw up.)

I think the majority of WVU's wins over UConn were during the time the Huskies were building their program up from 1-AA status, or whatever they were prior to 2002.  UConn is much better these days.  But I still expect us to win.

"UConn football moved up to Division I-A status in 2000, was included in official NCAA Division I-A statistics for the first time in 2002, and became a full Big East member in 2004."

So I wouldn't get too excited by that stat, we're working with an awfully small sample size, and the fact that UConn is even mildly competitive 10 years after moving up to FBS is actually kind of impressive.

The WVU teams that RR coached were far greater in talent then UConns teams were.  Having said that, there is a coaching advantage that RR has over Edsall, and that will certainly help us to some degree. GO BLUE
