UC: Uniform change-Jimmy Butler takes 75% paycut to leave Adidas
In all things uniform. This is quasi-related.
http://www.slamonline.com/media/slam-tv/jimmy-butler-took-a-75-percent-…
Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler is one of the rising stars in the NBA, and has been making interesting financial choices of late: Butler turned down a $44 million extension from the Bulls prior to this season, and took a massive paycut to switch from adidas kicks to Jordan Brand.
Butler, a restricted free agent this summer, dropped the Three Stripes in favor of the Jumpman despite what his agent says was a 75% hit on his wallet.
these are the Jordan 5's he's referencing in the video
Not a smart business move.
There's a stigma about Adidas and injuries among NBA circles especially after Rose's injury issues and his shoe sponsor being Adidas as well.
Weird, I know, but w/e keeps your mind off it.
In all honesty tho... if you're a millionaire when does diminishing returns come into play regarding money after $10 million? I'm sure eventually it just becomes a number and pride thing rather than a necessity if you get what I'm saying.
in terms of durability and comfort level.
D-Rose's injuries are a result of his style of play in which he uses a ton of jump cut and ton of explosiveness moves made by human that shouldn't have any business of doing it in a game.
I understand you may have a personal preference to Adidas shoes, but to say they are greater than Nike is just ridiculous. And I'm assuming basketball shoes since that's what the thread is about. Nike markets well but when it comes down to it their products are much better in basketball. That's why an overwhelming majority of professionals on down to grade schoolers wear Nike.
just fall apart and has shorter shelf life than Adidas shoes. Nike isn't that much better than Adidas when it comes to shoes.
That's not correct. Unless you're buying some kind of nike free product (where the individual sole pieces are cemented onto the upper and may come loose over time), Nike shoes are more durable than Adidas shoes. Especially with respect to basketball shoes.
I own real Nike shoes and they fall apart easily

Have you tried on a pair of adidas boost shoes ? They are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn - so much so I own 4 pair. Unbelievable comfort.
if you're a millionaire when does diminishing returns come into play regarding money after $10 million?
It depends how prudent you are with your money. For a lot of athletes the answer seems to be "never".
Seems like Butler intends to be wise with his cash if he's intentionally turning down that much more money.

You are quite possibly the most annoying poster ever. That's saying a lot.
Yup...
Can we just make a single Adidas-Nike Clusterf*ck thread? This is absurd how often insignificant details are being posted.
People thinks it's funny, but it's not. It's stupid. It's the ESPN syndrome where no one gives a shit anymore and they still shove it down your throat.
This topic, just like Tom Brady's Michigan Manliness, just like "Oakland is still in play"...is played out and old and 99% of the posters on this board truly don't care or think its cute.
But there's always someone willing to be "that guy."
being in play will always be funny to me.
Unless JH actually takes a job there.
Obligatory.....
Oakland is still in play?
Just like there will always be people who complain about threads they could easily ignore. I mean there are people here who enjoy threads like these.
That is true, but this thread offers nothing what so ever that hasn't been covered, deals with NCAA, deals with UM, or even offers anything novel to the NIKE vs Adidas debate. That is why I suggested a master thread for threads that are essentially Bleacher report click bait to congregate in.
The next thread could very well be a Picture of Calvin peeing or Hobbs deficating on an Adidas symbol with only the word DISCUSS.
The "people" who populate this place nowadays are very different from what this site had at one time. It sucks.
i agree. the shit gets old, especially when its people hammering Brian's funny stuff into fine grain powder.
It might be absurd, but are you going to like, work, at 12:30 on a Friday instead?
How about a new blog that is linked under Michigan Blogs on the left?
MgoGarb?
Maybe Derrick Rose should too and get 75% of his knees back
...it is settled Jordan > LeBron.
even in question? I mean, come on, its JORDAN!
Dude's averaging 12PPG for his career, same as what it was in college. And he didn't play a full season this year. I would've waited for the max contract someone will be crazy enough to shell out before taking less money on a shoe contract.
But he averaged 20ppg and 6 reb this year. His career stats are less relevant than this pass season. And I'm not sure why you mentioned college.
Good thing he's about to get max contract offers soon. Best to cut ties with adidas and get some shoes that have the best cushion system in Jordan Brand/Nike.
Also seems like he's been wearing J's a lot this year so not super unexpected to see the change.
Good decisions were made IMO. As a Basketball player you gotta protect your feet. Adidas doesn't match up with JB in this respect.
was absolutely thrilled with him turning down those deals.
He'll make up for it when he gets paid a max contract instead of 10mil per year. A slap in the face to Jimmy IMO based on his production and improvement.
they look like platform shoes from the '70s.
I Don't get the Jordan shoe craze. Also North Face jackets. Does everybody need to buy them? Are you
not cool if you don't have them? End rant.
Who has ever lived, but I'm just spitballing here.
Ummm what does Chris Mullin have to do with anything?
North Face fan and I'm routinely above 10,000'. Their gear used to be top notch before they became a fashion icon.

not everyone's in it for the money.
ADIDAS hasn't been cool since Run DMC.
He doesn't care that much about money b/c he's already make $2mil/year and knows more will be coming in the very near future. Why should anyone else care what he turns down financially?
Dude's about to get a max contract this summer. He won't be hurting for money, and maybe he thinks Jordan will be better for his image/performance/health etc. If he doesn't like Addidas, more power to him
Would you ever get red and silver (not same shade as osu, but close) shoes or other clothing? Similarly anything with Spartan green?
I have TONS of black and red gear, but ZERO gray and red. Green...None.
