UC: Uniform change-Jimmy Butler takes 75% paycut to leave Adidas

In all things uniform.  This is quasi-related.

Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler is one of the rising stars in the NBA, and has been making interesting financial choices of late: Butler turned down a $44 million extension from the Bulls prior to this season, and took a massive paycut to switch from adidas kicks to Jordan Brand.

Butler, a restricted free agent this summer, dropped the Three Stripes in favor of the Jumpman despite what his agent says was a 75% hit on his wallet.

these are the Jordan 5's he's referencing in the video

There's a stigma about Adidas and injuries among NBA circles especially after Rose's injury issues and his shoe sponsor being Adidas as well.

Weird, I know, but w/e keeps your mind off it.

In all honesty tho... if you're a millionaire when does diminishing returns come into play regarding money after $10 million? I'm sure eventually it just becomes a number and pride thing rather than a necessity if you get what I'm saying.

I understand you may have a personal preference to Adidas shoes, but to say they are greater than Nike is just ridiculous. And I'm assuming basketball shoes since that's what the thread is about. Nike markets well but when it comes down to it their products are much better in basketball. That's why an overwhelming majority of professionals on down to grade schoolers wear Nike.

That's not correct.  Unless you're buying some kind of nike free product (where the individual sole pieces are cemented onto the upper and may come loose over time), Nike shoes are more durable than Adidas shoes.  Especially with respect to basketball shoes.

It depends how prudent you are with your money. For a lot of athletes the answer seems to be "never".

People thinks it's funny, but it's not. It's stupid. It's the ESPN syndrome where no one gives a shit anymore and they still shove it down your throat.

This topic, just like Tom Brady's Michigan Manliness, just like "Oakland is still in play"...is played out and old and 99% of the posters on this board truly don't care or think its cute.

But there's always someone willing to be "that guy."

That is true, but this thread offers nothing what so ever that hasn't been covered, deals with NCAA, deals with UM, or even offers anything novel to the NIKE vs Adidas debate. That is why I suggested a master thread for threads that are essentially Bleacher report click bait to congregate in.

The next thread could very well be a Picture of Calvin peeing or Hobbs deficating on an Adidas symbol with only the word DISCUSS.

Dude's averaging 12PPG for his career, same as what it was in college.  And he didn't play a full season this year.  I would've waited for the max contract someone will be crazy enough to shell out before taking less money on a shoe contract.

Good thing he's about to get max contract offers soon. Best to cut ties with adidas and get some shoes that have the best cushion system in Jordan Brand/Nike.

Also seems like he's been wearing J's a lot this year so not super unexpected to see the change.

Good decisions were made IMO. As a Basketball player you gotta protect your feet. Adidas doesn't match up with JB in this respect.

He doesn't care that much about money b/c he's already make $2mil/year and knows more will be coming in the very near future. Why should anyone else care what he turns down financially?

Dude's about to get a max contract this summer. He won't be hurting for money, and maybe he thinks Jordan will be better for his image/performance/health etc. If he doesn't like Addidas, more power to him

Would you ever get red and silver (not same shade as osu, but close) shoes or other clothing? Similarly anything with Spartan green?
