Is this McDowell's decision day?

Is this McDowell's decision day?
EDIT: NVM. Army Bowl participant.
He was going to decide during the Army Bowl game, but I think he decided to push back to National Signing Day.
Wilton starting and Jabrill being talked about all week. I hope they show out
for the game? not on espn3 unfortunately.
Always check First Row when you are looking for a stream
Hoping to see good things from everyone with the focus obviously being on Jabrill and Wilton.
Does anyone know Harris's number?
He isn't playing in the game, preparing for his time at Michigan
That would explain why he isn't in the group pic, thanks.
Drake Harris is not playing due to injury, wasn't at the practices either
EDIT: slow, but perhaps still useful - Ferns and Wangler are also not playing/practicing due to injury rehab
He's not playing, injured.
EDIT: beaten to the punch... twice... two times failed.
Can somebody post a list of what numbers/teams the michigan commits are.
From Ace's twitter - Team Nitro
Peppers #5, Speight #19, Mone #52, JBB #73.
you find this picture
Just kidding, I clicked the link. For everyone else:
Jabrill Peppers - 5
Jared Wangler - 2
Wilton Speight - 19
Bryan Mone - 52
Juwan Bushell-Beatty - 73
Michael Ferns (Not playing) - 10
All on the nitro (green and grey) team.
Mone, Peppers, and Speight all starting
Mone is frickin huge!
I was going to go to the gym, but screw it. It's a fucking blizzard here in NE Ohio and I want to watch this game, the M game at 6:00, and then the bowl game tonight. Calories can wait until another day.
Was that pass tipped?
and then a long one to Dupree? Decent throw to a matchup.
Ew, that was a nice catch
Speight's release just looks so nice when he throws the deep ball.
Yikes. small sample size but Speight's first two passes were atrocious
Huge throw by Speight!
Peppers in at RB
Or not. Thought I saw # 5
He hands off
nice deep ball from Wilton to Dupree after a bad misthrow on a slant
Peppers playing at QB.
So can we say that we had the first two quarterbacks to play
Cmon Jabrill keep it one time!
4th and 7, Herm doesn't give a shit. Peppers still at Q, he completes a pass but well covered by the D.
Peppers pass. Cmn let him loose!
Berrios should've had that first down
Mone stuffing the run there.
When will they compare Berrios to Wes Welker or Edleman?
Mone gets good push and blows up a run. Peppers then gets a tackle on the outside.
Peppers living up to that "likes to hit" tag he keeps getting attached to him. And man Mone looks like a monster .
Has been stuffing the run so far. Very impressive
Not sure if Peppers or Mone were out there, I think not
Peppers was playing cb, it was man coverage though.
Didn't look like it. The corner over there got sucked out of his zone, looked too skinny to be Peppers
Peppers looks like he's a big mouth lol but honestly I think we need someone like that bring some swag into this team. It didn't seem like we had any vocal leaders this season
Peppers was back on that KR but lane took it. Nice return.
I feel bad for OL in games like this
Looks pretty fast, actually
These O Lines are fucking terrible.
Well Spieght might get used to that. If Funk doesn't get his shit together.
Clearly it's only Funks inexperienced offensive lines that don't immediately dominate.
Haven't had a Michigan caliber O line in 3 years. Next year I expect a better group. Next year is huge for the program.
It's soo early, but he looks the part, can see over lineman and through lanes and seems to make good decisions- something we have lacked for a long time. Love to see him battle Morris..,
Myles Garrett is killing Nitro's line
No offense to him, but on that sack he looked Navarre like.
Good practice for our O line- Bars blown up on edge!
The DEs were on him quick, the offensive scheme is simplistic, and he's been playing with these WRs for 3 days. He has to think a lot which makes him slower. He got 7 yards on a scramble on the play before that.
Picks A&M over hometown LSU
Speech 100 should be mandatory for most of these kids..but they will make millions more than the speech professors who teach them..
I thought for sure Speedy was going to pick LSU
Have all the uniformz jokes been made? I just got here
The team names are Nitro and Highlight -- jokes have written themselves.
God I hope not
Watching our recruits play has completely changed my bad (2013-Sparty wins RB) mood. The future is bright.
JBB got beat pretty bad there.
JBB blown apart
Bushell-Beatty just got torched.
JBB burned there.. Needs more Peppers
JBB got burned and Speight got hit.
on the run
on the run. He hasn't been getting good blocking yet however.
C'mon Herm, misdirection the answer to slow down that rush, just like us vs KSU
I don't think Herm is the play caller.
Wow, Speight rolling out and throwing across his body on the run, great effort.
We should offer this Jones guy.
I wanna see Speight and Peppers in the backfield together.
most of these interviews are best seen on mute
what is 'proper' english? what exactly makes the english you speak more 'proper' than the english someone else speaks?
this is to my knowledge the most geographically, ethnically, and culturally diverse country in the world. we have dialects for days in this country. the dialect(s) you use are determined mostly by geography, socioeconomic status, and yes, context. the dialect a person uses does not indicate their intelligence, it does not indicate their character, it just indicates where they grew up.
and Wilton Speight getting a head start on the Michigan offense: OL whiff, QB sack on 1
I think if Wilt had more time to survey the field he'd be killing it. That was a great throw on the run.
This is really bad football.
That was a terrible throw. The RB was open on the side.
I'd love to have him. Rich man's Drew Dileo
That was Bellomy esqe
Bad decision right there tho...
eesh. Good thing our QB picture is clear for the next few years.
These games are a microcosm of the instant overreaction to single data points around here. Speight throws one pick months before he's going to show up on campus, and we're acting like that means anything at all as to how ready he'll be for college play.
Impossible to know if something like that is on the QB or the WR in a game like this. No rapport between the QB and the WRs and an all around poor understanding of the offense.
Ugh, Speight picked off.
I cannot wait until the backfield cameraman gets drilled by a 300lb 18 year old.
UA commercial w chick in blue best part of game.
His receiver slipped, otherwise he would have been able to make a play on it.
The guy was going to be covered anyway. It was still a bad throw, in my opinion. Oh well.
Speight: calls the play.....call the formation to one wide receiver, then the RB is clueless about what he's supposed to do. Wilt, "Just run into the flat"
Obviously Borges fault
Good at football, bad at speaking.
hopefully we here that on replay next few years.
Of kid who hasn't seen mom since he was 8.
Melvin Kein? (Sp)
Melvin Keihn. Same hs as Poggi
Godwin bobbles it though
8 yards off receiver- just like our DBs
The CBs have to play off. There is no pressing allowed in this game and Peppers wasn't too happy about it.
Im sure its the playcalling, but Peppers will fit in well. Drop super deep, allow the receiver to be in position to catch a first down uncontested.
No ones playing up on these receivers. They want this to be an offensive driven game.
Jamming/press coverage not allowed in this game unfortunately.
Getting ready for Michigan defense!
I feel it's worth mentioning that Shane Morris looked far better in his first college start than he did in this game a year ago. Don't put put too much stock in this thing.
I haven't really heard much about Jeff Jone. If he stays Minny will have a good one.
I can't wait to hear "I'm taking my talents to..." 5 more times during the broadcast. Thanks so much Lebron.
This was pretty funny.
JBB is a very large man
He's also a very slow man. Garrett has been destroying him.
I didn't think he was in there for first first couple TFL from Garrett.
Well, Myles Garrett might be the best defensive end in the 2014 class, so that's not much of a surprise. They're not really in the same category of player.
That's a fair point.
Is Peppers getting any reps on offense?
He came in as a wildcat QB a few times on the first drive.
Three wildcat plays. Two handoffs and one pass.
He took 3 snaps earlier but either handed off or threw a screen for nothing on them.
Has been under duress a lot. I wanna see more Peppers
for the day. Different QB on the past drive
Nah, that's not how it usually works in these games. They rotate quarterbacks quite a bit. We'll almost certainly see Speight again in the second half unless he's hurt.
Rooting for Highlight to score again so we can see Peppers on the KO
Missed tackle by peppers.
Peppers with the wiff on a tackle.
Come on Jabrill, you can tackle better than that.
Peppers comes back on good coverage.
The University of LSU... Right.
We interrupt the UA Announcement Marathon for another play from the game..
"The university of LSU." That's worse than what Pryor said.
It could be that he was just trying to toy with the audience. When you say "the University of," it sounds like you're not going to choose LSU.
You can give him the benefit of the doubt, but I don't think that's what he was doing.
to make fun of 18 years olds---at least the ones not coming to Michigan.
What did Pryor say?
"The University of Ohio State"
T Pryor would be proud
University of LSU with the backwards L. I'm joking, but still.
Peppers blocked it, Jackson run back for TD!
Edit: apparently it was illegal. because this game is stupid.
Nice fuckin block Pep
Jabrill with the block!
PEPPERS! May have been offside
Some of these rules are extremely stupid.
Let's go Peppers! Even though it got called back for a stupid rule.
That is a really stupid rule.
Peppers cheating or something I'm not sure but nice block regardless of silliness.
Icing the kicker. Really?
Just powered the blocker almost back into the kicker. But there was a timeout.
Round 3, fg is good
Gets overturned but a MADE UP rule. That's so stupid. Why did they make that rule for this game?
That's bullshit. Unbelievable play though.
Not worried about Speight's inconsistency in the first half. Dual threats will naturally look better in this game because the lack of preparation means improvisation is the best weapon. A guy like Speight needs to be on the same page as his receivers and have guys running precise routes. Also some level of pass blocking would be nice. He'll have those things at Michigan right?
i think we'll have to investigate this "pass blocking" concept more before we can commit to it.
Peppers' block was absolutely tremendous and I have to believe that in 99% of circumstances that don't involve inane rules on special teams, that's six points. Very strange game in that regard.
That's a terrible play by the blocker, he shouldn't allow the guy inside. He went so far outside that the lane was there for Peppers.
He went outside because it is illegal for Peppers to go inside in this game...
They probably don't want to spend more than 10 minutes practicing Special teams, so they made rules that limit the complexity.
Just like the LBs aren't allowed to blitz, the FG rushers aren't allowed to rush inside of the wing, they are only allowed to go outside.
Peppers got through untouched because the wing wasn't expecting him to break the rule...
Love that the refs called the penalty on peppers because of a made up rule but didn't call interference on the "muffed" punt.
Herm loves that too
Watching on mute at work, what was the penalty that got the blocked FG return called back?
Can't rush inside the blockers
Thanks, that just seems dumb. If it's for safety, I don't recall many injuries try to go inside for a blocked FG.
Ugh, D. Hand special...
It's apparent Landon Collins and his brother just want to get the hell away from mom.
Clearly these two brothers wanted to get away from their mom.
I logged on to say exactly this.
for those of us who can't watch, what happened this time? alabama again and she rolled her eyes again?
I wonder if Landon Collins' mom likes The University of LSU?
... from the department of redundancy department...
That mom is pretty bitchy. How about you be proud you have two DI sons and will probably be set for your life instead of complaining.
Gerald Justin's mom is a bitch. Way to support your kid.
My apologies to Mrs. Justin. Lol
I think Mone has looked best of our guys so far. He might not have lit it up statistically, but has been getting good penetration, helped blow up a couple run plays.
Peppers is giving too much cushion. Hits hard and good speed, though. Maybe he's a free safety long-term. I've heard a few people make that suggestion before tonight. Wish he would have kept on one of those option plays.
Speight will be fine. He was a little jumpy at first, but has two years minimum to compose himself, so I'm not worried. He looks capable enough, just has to relax and make smart plays. Threw a pretty ball on the move.
JBB.... Well.... He is going to RS and probably not be pushed into starting duty for three years if that. So it's hardly worth speculating based on one much smaller speed rusher blowing past him a few times. A whole lot of conditioning and learning the position for him between now and then.
Really too bad on Hand. It looks like he still moves well after adding weight. I thought he may have been slightly overrated last summer, but he looks the part now IMO.
I like Jeff Jones. If we were saving a scholly for Hand that isn't going to be used - and particularly if it doesnt' go down with McDowell, maybe we can snag him from Minny at the last moment. He looks like a natural back. Instinctive, runs hard, moves well.
Peppers will be fine. I believe they cannot play press coverage in these games so they're forced to play off.
I never said he won't be fine. He's made some plays. I love his upside.
I know he's not allowed to press, but still gave up a bit more cushion than necessary. Just an observation. Not trying to pull his scholarship.
Is still a fucking nightmare. Remove your head from your ass, lady, and give some public support for your child.
Yeah, maybe there's a reason her kids want to leave the state though. Hmm.
She has two sons with different last names and doesn't have the same last name as either of them. Class.
It is what it is. The University of LSU is #1
Damn that mom is a straight up bitch. She could at least act grateful that her two sons got full ride scholarships to college. Unreal.
stream died and now im sad
So uhhhhh can we get Charles Woodson to mate with Collins/Willis's mom so we can produce the greatest recruit in the history of the universe? I'll pitch in $20 toward whatever fund we get started. Judging by all the last names associated with her and her kids, I'm pretty sure it won't cost us much to rent her uterus for 9 months.
I feel the need to lock in the stupid here...
Yeah, that comment is just not going to end well.
Yes, this is what I was trying to say.
I hope Tabor picks Arizona over Alabama for the lulz.
good for richrod.
Peppers with a good return!
Peppers is so strong. Love that speed and strength combo. Should have been buried on that kick return.
Tabor saw all the female talent at Arizona.
RR with a big get over Jalen Tabor
Is it too soon to suggest RichRod brought a little of the following to Tucson from A2? (Purdue's whinging on that is one of my favorite memories of the RichRod era.)
I love seeing guys with Alabama as a finalist pick other schools. Does that make me a bad person?
I know it's been said a lot but damn Minny has a player!
I've been wishing for a while that Michigan would go after Jeff Jones.
Jeff Jones is pretty good. I like seeing talent like that in the B1G.
I just hope that he stays at Minny and doesn't go to sparty.
This comment will end well
God forbid someone would say something controversial yet basically correct.
There are a lot of black kids that talk just fine. A lot of it has to do with where they come up. You mention growing up in an affluent community. I think those kids have a much better chance than some of these guys that come from poor communities, go to lousy schools, then on top of that are basically taught that football is their one ticket out. No one stresses education.
I also think a lot of kids are going to struggle being in front of the camera for the first time. Even if you speak well normally, you might trip on your words in that situation. If you don't speak well, it's probably going to get even worse with the lights on.
Also worth pointing out that your surroundings have a lot to do with how you speak. If all your friends and family talk a certain way, it's going to rub off no matter how smart you are.
I'm Asian and my speech wasn't much better when I was 17.
Also, I have to disagree in that, in my experience, these guys actually do speak more eloquently and intelligently after going through college.
See Q Wash.
Roy Roundtree, and Denard Robinson didn't improve their speech much at Michigan.
Yeah, we should definitely blame poor speech on their college education when they're in the middle of 12th grade.
Congratulations on being black and going to an affluent white school. You seem like you really know what all of these other black people are going through.
I see that making generalizations about black kids who don't grow up in affluent white areas is yours.
"So you're Ok with the way these kids sound? And are you also Ok with how most of them sound exactly the same after several years in an institution of "higher learning"?"
Oh my. Where should I go with this? First of all, I realize that some of these kids are from the south and don't sound exactly like me - and nor do many college-educated folk from the south. Second of all, I also realize that "Ok" does not need to capitalized, and "Ok" by itself is not a word. You need to add an "ay" to the end. I wouldn't be bringing this up, of course, except for the fact that you're acting as if you're so much more educated than these kids and yet you can't use a very basic word like "okay" correctly. Third of all, your assertion that these kids sound the same after several years of college is anecdotal at best.
Of course Magnus can speak for himself, but it's a board so I can pile on. He seemed to be saying that "Ok" is an improper spelling, while either of "OK" or "okay" are ... uhm ... OK. Your cut-and-paste definition supports his point.
One could conclude that his deeper point is that you are being a tad hypocritical in criticizing "these black kids" when you used an improper spelling in your post. Glass houses and all that.
The main thing, though, is that your posts make you seem insecure and mean-spirited. The UA players are 18 year-old kids speaking in front of millions of viewers, and are probably nervous. Rather than being happy for them as they make the biggest decision of their lives, you are propping up your ego by differentiating yourself from these kids and insulting them. (Who knows, maybe you never played college sports and need to rag on these kids to feel better about yourself.)
They won't be going to "play school." Ask cardale Jones.
Al Borges runs the public speaking classes for these black kids. Hoke and us alike can all agree that they were well prepared, just didn't execute. I'm white.
Why are you so insistent that "nothing is done on an institutional level"? You have no evidence to support that assertion other than you feel like it's probably true.
Measuring the lack of improvement? It seems you are just forecasting a stereotype. I have actually taught and coached in the Deep South. I am from the Midwest. I Couldn't understand my kids I was teaching the first couple of months I was down there. Then when I picked up the dialect it was clear I underestimated intelligences across the board. Further, I had some kids go to some d-1 schools playing various sports and their speech markedly improved, mostly because they simply socialized with a broader population, but also because they were in real school, not the crappy environment they were forced to initially slog through. I don't think there exists any real evidence anywhere that these kids' language skills do not improve, in fact I would say with near certainty that that is almost universally factually inaccurate.
If you truly are a black man, I am surprised by how I empathetic you sound, but your prerogative I guess. Sorry to be sensitive about it, but I taught these children and it feels a bit insulting.
Sorry...lazy proof reading from my iPad.
I'm not insulting these kids. ...
They sound ignorant.
You have a curious way of "not insulting" people. Maybe in your affluent mostly-white home town of Alpharetta (or Dunwoody, or whatevs) describing folks as "ignorant" isn't insulting. In the rest of the country it is.
Two things in your posts are really irritating, and I can't tell if you're oblivious or just trolling. The first is that you assume that just because someone speaks "street" for an interview that they are incapable of speaking "proper" English. That's a faulty assumption. (Cf., for example, a Kanye West interview with a Kanye West song.) The second is that you assume that universities are doing nothing to help students learn "proper" English. That's another faulty assumption.
I come here to get an update on how our guys did in the game and this is what is in the thread. Really? Wtf
And yet "OK" is not what you used. You used "Ok."
are you familiar with the concept of code switching?
I woud argue that the kids (black and white) are wearing jerseys, playing football, and speaking in a much less formal manner due to that...
just some food for thought.
this is kinda what I was referring to---it only got worse. Magnus has this one covered on behalf of civilized humans.
Cut the shit. You do realize that these kids are all from the south which means most of them have thick accents and on top of that they are in front of a camera on national television. More goes into it than what's on the surface. That's coming from a black man.
there are a lot of white cajuns down in the bayou that i could barely understand when i was there a few years ago. they just chase gators instead of a pigskin.
It seems like LSU is missing out on everyone today!
"It is what it is."
Les Miles probably feels like he got kicked in and around the groin 10 times today so far. He's basically been the #2 pick for every uncommited guy in this game so far save for 1.
Edit: The one guy he got called them the "University of LSU" as well, so there is that.
That was Michigan's role a couple years ago.
I do not feel bad for Bama or LSU. They will get high quality recruits.
True. I forgot about Fournette. He could do a pretty good job or ending Miles bad day on a very good note.
Did Mone do anything today? Saw him out there with Hand a couple times but didn't hear his name....
I think he's played very well. DTs don't normally put up a bunch of stats, but he's bullied some blockers into the backfield a few times and has handled double teams pretty well.
The University of LSU gets another one...
Must be a sister school to the College of Redundancy College.
Fournette to LSU. No surprise there.
just got a big one though
Les Miles, winning.
It looks like the University of LSU just gained their first two recruits of the 2014 class. Good for them
Seeing that list with George Campbell, makes me a tad bit sad.
Well at least he tried to pick up that first down right there.
Speight: Looked inconsistent. His first long pass was poorly played by the DB, wasn't a good throw. However, he did show some escapability. His best pass came when he was flushed out of the pocket to his right, kept his eyes downfield and delivered a strike to his WR. Had a bad pick in the endzone where he had 2 guys wide open and tried to force it.
I don't see him playing over Morris in 2 years. That said, he'll certainly have time to develop his arm and grow at Michigan.
Skillset reminds me of: Blake Bortles (almost scary how much they compare on the field - even in the things they don't do well).
Peppers: All of the hype is warranted. He's clearly a top athlete. IMO he should get some snaps on offense next season as well. Start him at nickelback from day 1 and let him grow into a boundary CB position behind Raymon Taylor. He's a willing tackler but could use some coaching to get an A in the category.
Skillset reminds me of: Patrick Peterson (not nearly as good of course, but certainly could be one day)
Bushell-Beatty: Played out of position at LT. Looked pudgy as well. Got TORCHED by a speed rush. That said, could be a very good OG, it says alot that they put him at LT to begin with...move him inside and it shouldn't be an issue. Needs to work on punch and first step. Don't see him contributing in the next 3 years, but could/should start as a RS Junior and RS Senior.
Skillset reminds me of: Steve Schilling (with a little bit of Ricky Barnum sprinkled in)
Mone: Huge, effective, exactly what I'd expect. IMO this kid will be an anchor for 2-3 years at Michigan. Very strong and seemed to always be in position even when plays weren't going his way. Not much of a pass rush at this point. Just seemed like a rock in the middle that you weren't going to move.
Skillset reminds me of: Vince Wilfork (the "current" Vince Wilfork who's lost a baby step and doesn't have the same pass rush he did 5-10 years ago)
One of the best things I saw in the Under Armour practices was Sanders leading a tackling drill. Really?
I resent that remark. One time I was watching a game, and Deion Sanders made a tackle.
As of 1:30AM University of LSU is still trending on twitter, for the record.
