Interesting point, the Board of Regents had their meeting earlier this month in New York City. Very well could have been to have the final deliberation in private and out of the spotlight in Ann Arbor.......or was it to meet with a candidate in NYC?

Come on....I'm trying to provoke someone into saying Bollinger!

Please be a respectable educator that will lead this great university and....

You can like sports and not like Brandon.

Maybe the new president will be someone who just might not like someone who raises ticket prices so he can fly first class to NYC (where he and his staff ride around in limos), fly skywriting planes and fly empty chartered planes to throw off media reports during coaching searches.

Or one who flagerantly disregards city code when he builds his big and loud marquee on Stadium Boulevard.

David Brandon simply does not belong anywhere near a public university. His presence here is fundamentally offensive.

He was doing his job. The money spent on those planes was a drop in the bucket when compared to the salaries involved. Having a hire fall through because of a meeting getting leaked is a big deal, potentially much more expensive. Maybe it wasn't completely necessary, but it wasn't frivolous either. You might give Brandon a little credit for learning from the history of coaching searches.

You would prefer to criticize him for flying first class. That comes off as extremely petty and lacking in perspective. I guarantee that hiring a president who thinks that way would be very bad for Michigan sports fans. Trying to avoid conflicts is one thing (such as the sign at Crisler). A focus on cutting expenses by nickel and diming the AD is quite another.

Huh?!?

I'd happily take Brandon on that Board of Regents, over most of the current occupants...

You'd have to be a serious higher ed nerd/professor/administrator to not have to immediately scramble to google to figure out details beyond whatever post the person currently holds.

I hope to be said nerd and scramble to google immediately.

Anyone dare to throw down some serious names (Beyond cartoon characters and Brandon)?    I'm putting my money on one of three:

a) My hopeful: Earl Lewis, President of Mellon Foundation, prior Provost at Emory

b) My most likely: Phyllis Chin from Illinois

c) My darkhorse: Lou Anna Simon from State

You could add College of Engineering Dean David Munson.

From what I hear it's most likely him or Phyllis Wise (Not Chin), who is Chancellor of Illinois-Urbana Champaign.  She has her phD from Michigan and it would be a promotion because she would be president of the whole system as opposed to one campus, plus Michigan is a more prestigous gig than Illinois.

Then again, who knows?

Weird autocorrect. Meant Phyllis Wise of Illinois. I heard early on Phyllis Wise was a candidate. I personally think Munson would only be in if they really struck out on a lot of other candidates. If they were eyeballing Munson either from the get-go or at some point after some others said no, I think they would have been more inclusive of students and staff on the search committee. The fact that it was so secretive and such a closed group leads me to believe that their intent from the start was another sitting President who didn't want it known they were a candidate. Dean Munson is a great guy, very impressive guy and in my and many others opinion would be a great President. Again, I feel like it doesn't make sense because of how secretive the search was.

The regents have been very quiet, so it's really all speculation, but there is a significant (nonzero) chance they decide to promote from within, and if they do, it seems like Munson is the guy.

I'm with you Bando. Feels like a few weeks ago with the whole Borges/Who Will Replace?/Nussmeier thing except this won't get a fraction of the coverage and likely won't get the literal minute by minute leaks that led to the disclosure mere hours after the position opened.

Probably have to wait until the morning although for the Board of Regents to be meeting, its done, this is just to formalize so it could leak. Regents decide everything before the meetings actually happen so whomever it is, its done.
