Michigan press release: U-M to Host Open House at Renovated Yost Ice Arena
Sept. 28, 2012
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fans will have their first opportunity to experience the newly renovated Yost Ice Arena at an open house event on Sunday, Sept. 30, from noon-1:30 p.m.
The event will be open to Michigan hockey season ticket holders, student season ticket holders and the general public, and give visitors a first-hand look at the completed renovations. Fans will have the chance to view the new concourse areas, new seating accommodations and the upgraded premium seating options.
University of Michigan ticket representatives will also be on hand, giving fans information on how to purchase various ticket plans for the 2012-13 season. Current season ticket holders can view their seat locations and students will have the chance to pick up their free T-shirts for the upcoming campaign.
The renovations at Yost replaced the bleacher seats, created ADA accessible seating and added loge boxes. In addition, new premium seating opportunities were created and a new press box area was designed on the west side of the arena. The main concourse was upgraded with improved concessions and more points of sale. The facility also received new exterior windows, similar to the Glick Fieldhouse, and lighting to create a more inviting atmosphere, as well as an improved audio system.
This Inside Michigan Hockey video from a couple of days ago provides a look at the renovated arena:
Note that Karsch says in the video that "the ice goes in this week" at Yost, and in the meantime the players have been practicing at the Ice Cube.

We have season tix and I recall sitting on cold metal all these years. I always plop my coat on the seat to protect against butt chill.

The top 10 rows of the sidelines were wood seats, the rest was aluminum seating painted blue, with a wooden structure (also painted blue) supporting it all. They re-did the north endzone in all aluminum several years ago.
It looks like it is all unpainted aluminum now. No maize, no blue--just metal. Other than that, it looks amazing in the photos--I will certainly be there on Sunday to check out my seats.

One important notice to students. As per email from the AD, the east entrance is now the designated student entrance and that is where students will scan in with the new system. Students are supposed to go in that entrance to pick up the shirts for this year.

It will be interesting to see if they raised it now that they have suites that might want a view from up high.

I'm afraid ol' Yosty might be losing some of the feeel if you know what I'm sayin. Playing tournaments there was the shit growin up, you could feel the history..where as "Mund"? or whatever was basically the same thing OLSM has (brand new) and shitty.
