well that's just, like, your opinion, man
U-M grad Nina Davuluri wins Miss America
Only the SEC has hot coeds.
This is where I would be reincarnated as a 19 year old! OMG.
The number of hot girls at Michigan vs any SEC school isnt close lol
I'm sure this is just SEC bias showing, but like Miss St. getting major rub because they play in the SEC, Kentucky and Arkansas sure do get some "hot girl" rub being in the same conference at Ole Miss, Georgia, and Florida.
Kentucky thing started (IMO) mainly because of Ashley Judd. Not saying it isn't true, just saying that my roommate and I were very close to driving down to UK one day to attend a Wildcat club hockey game for a complimentary "Ashley Judd in nothing but a hockey sweater" schedule poster.
Actually, the rest of their posters are pretty good, too.
They still sell them at the games they have had better posters she isn't that hot and yes UK has a ton of hot girls running around. We both played at Midnight makes for a fun interesting crowd. Every game is sold out so you gotta stand in line early if you wanted to do so.
I remember that calendar hanging in the Coach and 4 and wondering why I hadn't gone to Kentucky.
But yeah, it's a school that got a lot of buzz because a pretty cute actress went there. I mean, Lucy Liu went to UM and she's rather attractive, but because she doesn't pop up at basketball games people forget that.
Arizona St. and USC would rival the SEC if it weren't for the accents.
So I guess we have a right to be arrogant; our grads are not only smarter and classier, but also better looking than MSU grads and OSU grads. Basically better human beings all around.
The problem I always felt was that the hottest girls at Michigan were just as the hottest girls elsewhere but there were too few of them compared to other campuses.
And they seemed to disappear between October and the last two weeks of classes in April. I remember seeing these girls walking around during Finals, thinking "where did they come from?"
This is so true. Was there some exchange program?
I went to HS with her! she is a great person and very intelligent.
SJ! Go Bears!
ooops, wrong thread
2/10 would not bang.
cry out for visuals.
And this thumb from an earlier pageant, where she evidently was Miss Michigan:
Reading comprehension fails me.
...is very nice.
Unfortunately with wrap after walking the stage...
And she was rocking the maize in her evening gown/winner's outfit.
As much as I loved Michigan, I always felt the girls were too smart & classy. Michigan State girls - hot, dumb, and slutty - have always been more my speed.
No one cares.
If you didn't, you wouldn't reply
Indeed, I often reminisce upon my halcyon days at the U, as I endeavored to charm the brilliant ladies of the Maize and Blue. I recall many a evening at Rick's American Cafe, whereupon I and rather homely yet enticingly witty lasses of about 20 years, would imbibe the finest cognac and entwine our minds in elaborate philosophical musings. In one instance, I proferred the ironical observation that Kant's Critique of Pure Reason, while being a robust and poignant defense of the virtues of the common man, was so overly verbose and obfuscating that no common man would ever be able to comprehend it. What a blunderous miscalculation, indeed, for such a lofty thinking man of historical import! It is to laugh! Yet my companion insisted that Kant's method was sound, as his intent were toward a mere proselytizing of his aristocratic contemporaries. Needless to say, I ne'er did call upon this lady for affectionate company in even the most dire of circumstances.
The single greatest thing I've ever read on the Internet
Congrats to Nina
Twitter is saying she was a Sigma Kappa at MSU..... sooo where did they go wrong?
It looks like she has an alumni entry in the UM directory. I don't think MSU's online directory shows alumni, so I'm not sure how to check on that one.
According to some other Twitter people, she spent a semester at MSU, before coming to UM, where she graduated
I have tons of friends that are friends of hers. She defintely went and graduated from Michigan.
She almost got beat by Miss Akron. It was really intense.
I wonder how many points the Akron metaphor would have gotten in the posbang era?
ALL the points.
the interwebs! Thanks for the lol on a Monday morning.
Methinks this is perfect for, but too late to end up in, TWIS.
Reading the comments section from the article in the original post makes me weep for this country.
But what you say in privacy vs. what you say in public....I mean, in our living room my wife said "ohmygod she's so big" and then they showed the last year pics, and she's certainly put on a pound or twenty. I wouldn't say "fat", but certainly not what you'd expect the reigning Miss America to look like. Hey, after you've completed your responsibilities go wild. I mean, some of them are way too skinny anyway. That's why I like the winner (and a few others) who actually have some shape and when they turn their hips their stomach doesn't look like I should be donating money to UNICEF.
Nina is my cousin. We are so thrilled and proud of her. She went to state for a year...and transfered to Michigan!! Everyone in our family are Michigan grads! Please ignore those articles. .they are factually incorrect. The allegations against her were investigated by miss america pageant and was cleared of any wrongdoing.
Nina is a kind..smart...and beautiful girl in many ways. She worked so hard and persevered for this title. Go blue!
Is that two Miss Americas now between AA and Dearborn?
Rima Fakih, who was a University Of Michigan-Dearborn student and graduate, was the 2010 winner of Miss USA, which is actually a different competition (Miss America dates back to the 1920s, whereas Miss USA started in the 1950s, I believe).
ALL YOUR PAGEANT ARE BELONG TO US!!
I think Miss USA competes in the Miss Universe pagent, primarily. They're the Trump pagents. (Though I just found out last night there's something called Miss World too that Miss America might go on to compete in).
Congrats! Welcome to the club with Kate Upton
Congrats to Nina! Her sister is a good friend of mine.
In related news, this makes me weep for America.
reminiscent of the Marc Anthony reactions after he sang at the MLB All Star Game. I wonder if there is any overlap in the idiotic commenters.
Hopefully, the public shaming tumblr for the Miss America reactions gets similar publicity.
Two and a half Asians in the final group too. How awesome is that?
First, congrats to Nina. Way to represent both UM and the NY area.
Second, dear gawd people are racist in the comment thread on the site. Apparently "Miss USA" can only be a white girl from Ohio, because otherwise they're taking yer jerbs (no politics).
Third, I know the story here is that UM doesn't have hot women, and maybe its because I met my wife at UM, but I think people confuse hot college girls with hot women. I've met a number of UM grads while here in NYC, and as the women age they continue to look good in ways that, frankly, you don't always see with the "hot" girls from other schools. It takes commitment and intelligence to eat right, work out, and take care of yourself. And while looking great at 20 has its merits, as a guy who is happily married and looking to stay that way until I die, having an attractive wife he keeps trying to stay attractive while also being smart and funny beats peaking as a Gamma at STAEE.
The ugly women at Michigan meme has to die. Please. Extremely offensive. Some individuals might want to check to make sure they are not living in a glass house when speaking of "ugly" people.... And congrats to NINA!!! Loved the maize dress! Represent!!!
+1 Insightful. Woud read again.
You can say this about women from every state. Just because you went to college doesn't mean your smart, what people are saying is the quality of girls is the same the quantity of girls is not. After living in NYC I was very disappointed with the ratio of quality women.
what people are saying is the quality of girls is the same the quantity of girls is not.
Huh? I may be missing something here. I've been to a couple of SEC schools, and while there are certainly a large number of attractive women there, the veritable avalanche of sexy coeds isn't something I've seen. You see pictures of the Grove in Ole Miss and forget that you are probably looking at a relatively small portion of 14,000 students. I think the argument is that people tpyically equate "hawt" with sundressed 20-year-olds with straight blond or brown hair; with that definition I will totally agree that Auburn has UM beat. I guess we can agree to disagree about "quantity" as that seems to be subjective.
As for "you can say that about women from every state", that's not really my point. My wife is from out east, and UM attracts an immense number of people from around the world. UM really doesn't represent the state overall; I think something like 40%-50% of attendees are from outside of the state. And by the logic you used above, I'd argue the quantity of smart women who take care of themselves in certain states is way higher than others, even if those states do have some.
And I'm sorry the women of NYC did not live up to your expectations. I've never had any complaints, but I guess I need to recalibrate my attractiveness scale.
Hey man its a perspective, its not a fim standard what I find attractive you may not and vice versa. I've been to most southern campuses and most nothern schools. I've been to every Big Ten stadium and every SEC one and most ACC. I didn't just go walk around and check out girls, I've been out and around town bars frat parties and seen the sheer numbers. I'm not even talking about the state of Michigan I am refering to colleges only.
I guess we'll just agree to disagree.
but for ONCE I'd like to not see them not act surprised & start crying.
Just stroll on up, grab your crown and say "Damn Straight".
Good point. But I think it means she's humble.
But then she wouldn't be eligible for Miss Congeniality.
I wouldn't mourn too much for the ignorant responses being shared around the Internet in the wake of this miss America competition - I suspect it would be pretty easy to compile a highlight reel of stupid twitter posts or YouTube comments about any conceivable topic, if you scrape your filter along the very bottom of the humanity barrel. I would wager that this is highly unrepresentative of Americans as a whole, and was written up for the press for (surprise!) sensationalism and page views.
... and go blue!
Just some of the gems our new Miss America is being subjected to.
God the racism on twitter is just nothing short of astounding. I hate this world and I fear for the future of this country if that's who is leading our future. Seriously, even if you believe the hot garbage you're tweeting, DON'T PUT OUT FOR THE WORLD TO SEE YOU FUCKING TWITS!
I'm sure everyone of those commenters would be deeply offended if anyone pointed out the racism inherent in all of those sentiments.
Or at least Internet eternity.
"I'm so proud to be a Wolverine"
I'ts now officially official: Smokin' hot.
Many of the early posts on this thread were juvenile, embarrassing, misogynistic and IMHO wrong. I appreciate that at times this site becomes a testosterone contest, but you are talking about our mothers, our sisters, our wives and our daughters. Those comments were what one would expect on RCMB--certainly not on a site that welcomes Michigan fans who also happen to be women.
And let me just add that I suspect the physical attractiveness of the men on any particular campus likely mirrors that of the women. You may not have been a good a catch as you think you were.
Let's be real: This site has absolutely not welcomed women for a while, unless they came bearing T&A. Also, it's kind of sad that you should even have to appeal to some paternalistic protective nature to try to get the lowest common denominator to realize that maybe they should treat people like, ya know, people. Somehow in my 23 years I've managed to be attracted to women without making a damn ass of myself every time HAWT PICS surface on a football blog.
