There's no way this isn't a big deal for the guy who is suppossed to be in charge of discipline for the program.

I'd expect there to be a "mutual resignation" before everything plays out.  You just can't have this sort of thing happen and let it slide for the person in charge of discipline.  A coach may get away with it, but not the Director of operations.

I rather had the same thought - my thoughts on this incident, while it doesn't sound good on the surface regardless, will probably depend a lot on the results of that test. Both Minick and the university have said the right things (although I wonder admittedly, as he was pretty forthright but again we don't know yet) and Minick sseems genuinely apologetic, so hopefully this is something which does not end his career with the program.

but this is an odd quote to come from an innocent man

"I'm not going to make any excuses. I'll face the consequences of my actions. I regret the difficult position in which this has put my family and my employer."

I feel like we've all been there before, it's one of those things where you wish you could turn back time and just call for a cab.  It does however sound to me like he is owning up to it.  The way Hackett and Harbaugh handle this will be important for the entire program.  Looks like they are going to suspend him, sending a clear message that it will not be tolerated.

most people just haven't been caught.  I'd venture a guess that significantly more than half of all adults (at least those who drink), have gotten behind the wheel "drunk", at least one time.  Especially since the threshold was lowered to .08.  Hell, something like 20% of people will admit it in a survey, which means the # is way higher than that.

who got pulled over TWICE on suspicion of DUI/MIP.  She blew a 0.00 both times hahaha.  Just couldn't drive.  She was from NYC and had only had her license for ~a year and a half or something though.

Could be that his story was true and he was "drinking" but not impaired. And bc he refused the breathalyzer they arrested him. Could also be that he was lying and was impaired. Don't jump to conclusions yet I suppose.

must you all remember!?

I did absolutly lose my mind. My emotions from that day are very vivid. The problem was the amount of hope and belief I had in that team and the disaster that the game was.

I'll remember you remaining calm and collected if this or something similar happens in the future to OSU's director of football.

Does it affect anything on the field? No.

Does it look bad in perception (if true)? Yes.  This is supposed to be a no nonsense low tolerance coach and the guy he instilled to be the chief administrator of his program does something that gets players suspended.  So it looks bad and makes anything Minick would say on the subject sound hypocritical go forward when / if he ever speaks to a player about discipline for a drinking offense.  So it's a big deal internally and perception wise even if it doesnt affect a win or loss.  Leaders and best and other such things, right?

First of all, you don't know what he did or didn't do because he refused the breathylzer. Second, do you really think anyone will care about this in a few days?  Most people probably don't even know who the hell Jim Minick is.  Third, he's not the guy who's going to be talking to a player about discipline.  That isn't his job.

Yes, this doesn't look great in the media and provides a little ammo for our rivals for a few days.  That's about it.

Anyone with half a brain knows to refuse the breathalyzer if pulled over for DUI.  If anything that makes me think he's even more likely to be guilty.  I get the impulse to wait until the facts come out, but I'm not sure it's going to help anything.

I hope Jim handles this the right way. He has two leaders on the team with recent alcohol related infractions. How he handles this won't go unnoticed by the team. I bet he makes Minick address the team, among other things. However, he can't just let it slide if he is trying to institute this no-nonsense culture (ala Norfleet, mutliple players with first game suspensions). No matter how it plays out, this is a bad thing.
