U-M Bowl Matchup

Submitted by TrppWlbrnID on
i think there are some bowl games i am interested in watching this year - psu v lsu, wisky v the U, ucla v temple (!). got me thinking about what OOC teams i would like to see michigan play, teams they may have never played or played seldomly or teams with similar stature that just don't get the bowl matchups somehow. for some reason, i have wanted to see Virginia Tech v UM for a long time. just think it would be interesting. not necessarily a "dream matchup", just interesting. anyone else have any early morning bowl matchup musings?

No offense to Va Tech, but Oklahoma would be great. A nice home and home with them in 2013/14. IIRC, We've played both Ole Miss and Alabama in the last 15 years. I'd like to see someone we haven't in a while/ever.

I wouldn't mind watching Michigan play a team like Miami game now that we supposedly have speed, etc. Or, if we're talking bowl matchups that would probably never happen but I'd like to see, Michigan vs. Notre Dame in the National Championship game, at the Rose Bowl. (The only reason why a one-loss ND team sneaks past an undefeated SEC team is because...well...the BCS loves ND, and Tebow graduated. Unless his spirit remains to continue playing, not sure if the NCAA has eligibility limits on heavenly beings. /sarcasm. Otherwise, just to rattle off some teams, Tennessee, Florida State, Stanford, Arizona State/Arkansas (for obvious reasons), Oklahoma, and the Detroit Lions.

No offense, but a school that didn't show up until the 1980s is not an "old power." WVA would be interesting because of the RichRod angle, but on a macro level I'd love to see (at least with a good Michigan team) Michigan play Tennessee. They're another top-10 all-time program, we had animosity with the Woodson/Manning Heisman, and we've never settled the score. Outside of them and Oklahoma (who I'd also like to see), we've played the other power programs each in the last 10 years. In response to the comment above, I was at the 2000 Orange Bowl v. 'Bama, and yes, it was sweet.

That would have been a guaranteed sellout and the ratings on TV would have rivaled a BCS game. After the season started to sink, that was the one that I was really hoping to see. I'm not sure of the bowl alignments (they seem to change yearly) so I'm not sure if there was ever a possibility.

We have not beaten the trojans since Bo in 1989, and I do not think the rest of the big ten will respect michigan like it should until we show up for the conference and represent by knocking down a team that in recent memory has owned the big ten (beating OSU, UI, PSU along with us). In fact, the last team to beat USC in its bowl game is the spartans in 1990, and this was in the sun bowl, not the rose.

They also beat them twice in the '87 season too, on the very first game of the year and in the Rose Bowl. Sparty had some ballers on that team: Andre Rison, Lorenzo White, Percy Snow. Is that Sun Bowl the last time USC's lost to a Big Ten team?

When we get back to prominence, I'd love to see us kick the crap out of Texas in a bowl game. Living here in Dallas is tough when Blue is down and UT is going to MNC games. Its not like they pick on UM down here, but they are really full of themselves when it comes to the Longhorns. I'm hoping for an Alabama beat down of Texas this January.
