It will be Peabody Conservatory, most likely. That's a more-or-less self-contained campus next to the Washington Monument. That area isn't too bad, and it's where she'd live for at least a couple of years.
As for being rich ... I wish. However, they've been pretty good about making it affordable through scholarships and grants.

Hopkins undergrad is near Charles Village, far, far away from Patterson Park. Hopkins med school is over on the east side of town (nearer the park).
Baltimore is not a safe city, but Charles Village is pretty nice, and the area around Hopkins (especially to the north) is very nice indeed. And, the area near the Peabody school is also nice. I lived there for a summer while doing research at Hopkins.
I wouldn't want my 18-year-old daughter to hang out alone at 2 am every night, but if I had an 18-year-old daughter, I might not want her to hang out alone at 2 am in any town on any night.

how the conversation is going at my house.
Did you get accepted to Michigan? Yes.
Did you get accepted to any Ivy League schools? No.
Well, since I'm the one paying for your education, you'll be going to Michigan.
January 8th, 2015 at 9:29 AM ^
But nobody will be paying for JRs education. So there's that.
January 8th, 2015 at 9:38 AM ^
Similar when I was going to school. "You could get two or three undergrad degrees at UM for the price of an NYU degree"
January 8th, 2015 at 12:28 PM ^
is smart, but lazy. So she started talking about going to WSU or a directional school. Did you know that in-state tuition is only marginally more expensive at M than WSU and OU? So unless she gets a big ass scholly at another school, her ass will be in A2.

If he does accept, as others have sort of mentioned, you get a name that by itself will attract kids to at least take some visits and that's just a bonus of having him on staff. Hopefully, he does decide to come back and we can expand the scope of the sudden, renewed interest in Michigan that we're seeing from recruits - it makes me that much more excited to think about the future and the team we could theoretically build as the Harbaugh era gets off the ground.

Sam mentioned on the radio yesterday that he would expect Jr. to come to Michigan if Sr. takes the job. It wasn't a "gut feeling," just his opinion. Said the two are very close.
I've wondered if maybe Jr. doesn't want the expectations of following in Sr's footsteps, which I would totally get, but he's going to be playing a totally different position than his dad did. Harbaugh has run three TE sets in the past, so it seems like it would be good to get Wheatley and Clark.

I told my kids even if they go to Northwestern (we live in Evanston), they have to live in a dorm. Kids have to grow up.

and U-M even though we live in Ann Arbor. She roomed at Markley and it was a great decision.

And still one of the best parts of college was not living under their roof

Pretty sure scholarship athletes have to live on campus, so this would be a moot point. Though having home nearby is always good. I went to undergrad ten minutes from home. Only ever went back to do my laundry, but it's good to know that security blanket it close by.

... which would be a deal-killer for virtually every 18-year old in this country.
January 8th, 2015 at 10:52 AM ^
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'd take living in the dorms and doing stupid things with my college friends over living at home and eating meatloaf any day of the week.
I loved living away from home.

Why did Hoke stop recruiting Wheatley Jr.?
January 8th, 2015 at 8:27 AM ^
There may be info/posts I haven't seen, but has anyone considered that Jr. might especially not want to come to Michigan now that his dad might be coaching here? Maybe this in fact hurts us in his eyes? Nothing says this will be a Coach Carter situation, though that's what I'm rooting for.
January 8th, 2015 at 8:33 AM ^
Well, if Junior doesn't want to play for dad, then perhaps Dad should have gotten him that Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas a couple of years back. Ah, regrets.
January 8th, 2015 at 9:13 AM ^
It doesn't really hurt us much since we're not in his top 4. You can't lose what you never had.
January 8th, 2015 at 8:36 AM ^
Had I been sitting in Schembechler Hall for the past two decades, I'd probably have a much better hold on whether or not Fred Jackson had lasted long past his prime. It seems self-evident, but an outsider never has all of the information.
I hope that a) Wheatley takes the job and b) he has an immediate, positive impact. We seem to have a stable of high ceiling guys in the backfield, but whether it was because of poor head coaching, a bad scheme or failures on the offensive line, I don't think any of our running backs have met expectations.
Here's the future. Onward!
January 8th, 2015 at 8:40 AM ^
So how does this work? Can a father (who is a coach) recruit his own son?
His father is being paid by the school and his son ends up going there???
I wonder if Harbaugh has to be careful what phon numbers he calls...to be sure not to contact Jr. during a dead period???
SO MANY VIOLATIONS!!! lol
/s
January 8th, 2015 at 9:12 AM ^
the better question is do we really want his son? Legacy recruits tend to be overrated by the guru's.
January 8th, 2015 at 9:36 AM ^
Does that include the gurus who evaluate talent for USC, Alabama, Oregon, UCLA, Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, Auburn, Penn State, Wisconsin, and about half of the other major football programs in America, all of which offered him a scholarship?
January 8th, 2015 at 9:40 AM ^
A number of very good teams have been recruiting him. If it was Michigan and a bunch of directional school, then I'd worry. That's not the case with Jr.
January 8th, 2015 at 11:23 AM ^
I like legacy recruits. They may be a little overrated by the gurus but that's fine. If Charles Woodson Jr. is a decent football player, I want Michigan to recruit him. He could be overrated but if he's half as good as his father he'd still be one heck of a football player.

Maybe...but you know if the HC of the SF 49ers can make a 'lateral' move to HC of UM then so too can a RB coach of the Buffalo Bills. Further, that HC was as hot as any coach on the market.
I think there may be a changing dynamic/balancing between CFB and the NFL.

I think he would have sought a higher role if he was still currently employed in Buffalo.

Michigan doesn't really have a coach from the D right now. There's a lot of name recognition and some great coaches but Wheatley brings credibility to Detroit and I think that will help greatly with attracting talent.
January 8th, 2015 at 9:37 AM ^
Tyrone Wheatley is one of my all-time favorite Wolverines. I grew up watching his mix of size and speed and to this day I measure pretty much every college RB I see on what I call the "Wheatley Scale". I wore the #6 my whole sports life because of Tyrone.
So now that I got my cool story bro piece in, I think this would be a homerun hire at the RB position for Michigan. I would bet he will be a monster in the recruiting world based on his resume, name, and passion for Michigan. On top of recruiting I believe he will be a great teacher of the position. Guys like Derek Green and Ty Issac should take huge strides under Wheatley.
Keeping my fingers crossed that this goes official and Wheatley comes home!
January 8th, 2015 at 9:38 AM ^
So many variables at play here. Parents will support their kids choice, I suppose. But UM has to be considered the favorite for Jr. IF, (I repeat, IF) Sr. becomes locked in. Legacy Dad, favorite team growing up, big need at his position, probably the greatest staff in the HISTORY of college football (I may have exagerated just a smidgeon) (maybe not), and parents have a say due to $$$ not picked up by scholarship, etc. But a HUGE thing for players and family is... will the parents be able to go to the games? Not to mention the Michigan education thing. However - (disclaimer) the choice is probably Jrs. Therein lies the unknown.

Touchdown Tyrone? Was that ever a nickname? Touchdown Tim, sure, because Tshimanga isn't exactly a common American name, but I've never heard Touchdown Tyrone.

Wheatley was always just Wheatley as far as I can remember. Loved his high step!
