Tyrone Wheatley highlights
I figured this would be more interesting to watch than last year's Penn State game which will be on BTN in the next hour.
I got rid of the slow mo replays on the old tribute so I could add 6 more minutes of highlights of Wheatley. I loved watching him run. And an offensive line that could open holes, that's pretty cool too.

Edit: Title changed from 'Tyrone Wheatley' to 'Tyrone Wheatley highlights,' to calm ckersh74's nerves. He was NOT hit by a bread truck.
At 6:16 he shot out of an effin cannon. He was the first man among boys I remember as a teen. Track star turned Football Stud.
Can't wait to watch Jr.!
watch Wheatley Jr. and Runyan Jr. on the same field. That would almost require a poet.
Along with the Messiah, who in some circles is considered the Jr. of all Jrs.
From recent reports JR added a lot of weight of late and is in the 270ish range. Don't quote me but I think I read that somewhere in the past 2 weeks. So he might be projecting to be a lineman - hence you excitment for his highlights might differ a bit than his dad ;)
Sounds perfect. Down-hill running!
Could make a great HUGE FB or big TE with speed.
I really, really HATE to be that guy, especially in this case.
I appreciate all your hard work, but please do something with the thread title.
Thank you very much in advance.
P.S. +1 for the content.
I think it's perfect. Not sure what else to expect from WolverineHistorian.
Exactly. When I first read that, for all I know, Ty Wheatley could've gotten hit by a bread truck.
"Highlights", "Vintage Games", something like that.....hey, now we're on to something. That's what I was going for.
No bread truck is fast enough to catch him.
I know what he wanted in a thread title but it's pretty easy to figure out what the content is considering that WolverineHistorian only posts video of games and players.
Maybe so, but given the way things have gone with celebs lately, you can't be too sure.
Nice fix. Thank you.
I just posted a link to this video a couple of weeks ago. Thanks, now I get to watch it again!
Wheatley - Over them, Around Them, Through Them - complete mastery of BYOB. Coupled with line blocking that almost brings tears to my eyes, it is closing on nirvana. Oh, and he just said no.
Very cool video, and full of memories indeed.
Tyrone Wheatley was always "exploding" and it was beautiful because, no, they wouldn't catch him. That Rose Bowl call was awesome, as indeed they all were. It was a pleasure to watch him beat, well, everybody.
what you call a running game!
Thanks for the re-do and for posting it!
Thanks for that. Very cool Video! Wheatley is one of my all time favorites! Hopefully Derrick Green will turn out like Wheatley. Very similar power backs but Green still has much to prove. Not saying Green is there yet, just that you can see similarities.
ever to wear a Michigan uniform. That he was also a power back helped make him a special talent. I don't think Green has nearly as much speed. I'll be happy if he reminds us of Chris Perry.
Woolfolk was a shade faster in the 100, and by a shade I mean a few hundredths. Woolfolk still holds the Michigan 200 M outdoor record, 34 years later.
The best combination of speed and power that I have ever seen wearing Maize and Blue,,,
I was at that 1992 Iowa game at the 4' mark, and the State game the following week. He was phenomenal, couldn't stop him.
4 clips in, 3rd and Goal from the 7, they run power, and score. against ohio. WHY CANT WE HAZ AGAIN
This was incredible-TY so much!
I remember someone posting the full game a couple years back but it might have been removed.
I have the game in my collection but it's my least favorite win over Notre Dame and not a game I revisit very often. Other than John Carney missing the last second field goal and some nice plays by Jamie Morris, there's not much about that game that's fun to remember. ND was unranked and finished the season unranked. That game should NOT have been close and ND never punted. Lou Holtz had them playing light years ahead of their talent in just his first game and they were sooooo close to knocking us off.
The best highlight reel for that game would cover 6 plays. The rest of that game, not so much.
and a Mack truck.
I was, but I wasn't quite old enough to appreciate it. But, it's nice seeing the stadium rocking and the guys looking confident against good teams and being in the Rose Bowl and beating quality OSU and PSU teams.
2 weeks ago you felt confident enough in your fandom to describe Tyrone Wheatley as overrated. It seems a bit odd to see you now state that you were not quite old enough to have appreciated the fan experience.

I'm curious what it is about Wheatley that you like do much? Of course I liked Wheatley as well because he was a successful player. But, he played behind some great offensive lineman like Hutch, Everitt, Runyan, Payne, etc. Although he was obviously fast, I never thought he looked it on the football field. He didn't seem to have a lot of wiggle to him either. I always thought he was a bit over-rated. It only took one look at Biakabutuka for me to forget about Wheatley.
After watching some of those highlights I have to admit that my perception of Wheatley back then seems a little different than what I just saw in the videos. He looked much faster and agile than I recalled. I was like 12 years old after all back then.
FWIW it's not as though the intentions of my post were to come in and say "Wheatley is overrated!" My question was an honest one that was trying to understand your point of view. It was coming from a place of curiosity, not of malace for Wheatley. I did say I was a fan too. I get it now.
You probably could have been a litlte more tactful than calling out someone who is trying to admit he was wrong and align with you...just saying.
LOL... What part of Wheatley repeatedly running past DBs who had the angle on him was he not seeing?
He was flying by guys and getting the corner repeatedly in those clips. I'm not sure why I had that idea in my head, all I can think of is that I was too young to understand. Isn't it weird how sometimes our perceptions are so far off from reality?
Now that was one fast RB!
Wow. What a treat it is to re-watch some of those plays. Such dominant players don't come around that often, but boy are they fun to watch, especially when they wear the maize and blue.
you can't be upset. In many years that we started out in the top 5 or so and did not win the National Championship, we were upset somewhere along the line. I don't want to watch these games over and over again, but in some respects, it's a good thing that they exist and that there are rival peoples who like to watch them.
It's like the inverse of us watching the glory days of Tyrone Wheatley - these upsets represent someone's only glory day from that time. My brother, who went to State, once told me back then that he thought it was better to be a State fan because beating Michigan every once in while was HUGE for them. And is way more likely to happen every 5 or 6 years than a National Championship is for us Michigan fans. So I was destined to be frustrated all the time, while he, on the other hand, knew he would get to see his team achieve it's big goal every now and then.
I answered back something like "Jesus man, I am so glad I am not a State fan. That is a depressing way to see things. You mean you don't ever want to go into a season with expectations of being the best? That just seems really depressing to me."
So what is frightful to me right now is that I have started to catch myself looking to certain games on our schedule as potential achievements that, if attained, could make the season more bearable. Please, please, please Michigan, turn this thing around. I do not want to become my brother circa 1989.
Wow. Tyrone was a 5 star's 5 star. He may never be matched.
Memo...this is what manball looks like.
