Only the beginning.

4-star Michigan commit who was reconsidering after Hoke’s firing. Looks like he’s still on board. RT @Tkinnel_2: #team136

If Jim Hackett had made the decision to keep Hoke or hired some third-rate coach, it would have only been the beginning.

This is what it feels like to have someone who knows what they are doing in charge.

What chicken littles? We lost like half our class in a matter of a few weeks and essentially all our top targets. The damage has already been done, now it's a matter of rebuilding. Nothing is in the bag, nothing is fixed yet. All we have is some positive tweets from kids that never left. Nobody has recommitted yet and we don't have any new commits. Hopefully they can pull together a strong class but there is still tons of risk here. Nobody should be spiking the ball yet, nothing has been accomplished. I'm optimistic but far from ready to stick my chest out about this class. We had a kid decommit mid game this year. Let's be a bit humble about this before calling out the "chicken littles"

my point is only that there is a bigger picture beyond the immediate moment. Recruits were the least of our worries this year. People needed to calm the fuck down. The knee jerk reactions when things were bad were somewhat understandable, but they were off the friggin charts. We were at a moment, and there were people acting like Michigan football was coming to an end.

The pendulum is seemingly swinging back, and the sky was just falling a month or two ago. Moral of the story is to just stop freaking out so easily....and in 24 hours or so, we can all (hopefully!!) do a happy dance.. I am not a Chicken Little, but I am a Nervous Nellie.

Some would argue its BECAUSE of those knee-jerk reactions that (1) Brandon got the boot, (2) Hackett took his place, (3) Hoke was fired, (4) Harbaugh is on his way, and (5) Tyree Kinnel's interest in Michigan is intact.

I for one am glad that the Michigan community became reactionary during Brandon and Hoke's last year.  I'm convinced it turned out to be their last year in large measure because of Michigan fans' reactionary attitude.

And I applaud it:  We now have what we asked for the last time around.

Those freaking out and jumping ship and whining and bitching SHOULD be called out. Because that's what you all did and it was pathetic.

Why? Here's why.

  1. This was a small class to begin with...who gives a shit if we lost a few players? We don't have many scholarships to pass out.
  2. We need scholarships so the new coach and bring in some of "his guys" - think about guys like Tay Odoms, greatest ever? No. But he definitely had an impact in the transition. Roy Roundtree...same thing.
  3. You want Harbaugh to be able to get a couple guys who fit 100% what he's trying to do, who were recruiting by him and committed to him. Some of those guys are your leaders in 3-4 years whether they're the best players or not.
  4. Jumping ship and crying and throwing a fit should always be called out, it's the exact opposite of Fielding Yost's quote in my signature and it's pathetic. You don't have to be a blind soldier, but some chicken littles take it too damn far. There's a difference between voicing your concerns about where the ship is headed and jumping off the boat altogether. If you jumped, drown for all I care.
  5. We haven't really lost anyone, or anyone who can't be replaced. IF we get Iman Marshall, are you going to be worried about losing Garrett Taylor?
  6. What targeted guys did we miss out on? And what guarantee was there that those guys were headed to Michigan with the shitty year that we just had?

There is more excitement around out program for recruits than there has been in 2 years. Where was this line of players that we missed out on during this transition? It's been very quiet. Why? Because we didn't have very many guys to go after to begin with.

  1. QB - Alex Malzone
  2. Speed RB/Slot - John Kelly / LeVante Bellamy
  3. WR - Brian Cole
  4. TE - Chris Clark
  5. OT - Grant Newsome
  6. OT - Rob Dowdy / Darrin Paulo
  7. OG/OC - Jon Runyan Jr.
  8. DE - Tyrone Wheatley
  9. NG - Anthony Rush / ???????
  10. LB - Osa Masina / Anthony Wheeler
  11. CB - Iman Marshall
  12. S - Tyree Kinnel
  13. K - Andrew David

We'll be just fine...and I think that's a realistic haul.

Not just for recruits who were reconsidering or left that may come back but also those who would drop it all to come play for Harbaugh.

Very exciting.

I've been looking forward to this:

"Because Jim Harbaugh and Mark Dantonio will be perfect foils for one another.

Harbaugh has a mouth on him. Michigan State's Dantonio can find disrespect from something so small as a tent spike, especially when that spike comes from Ann Arbor. These two will inevitably butt heads. The rest of us can just eat our popcorn and enjoy the show."

since the first mention of the possibility of Harbaugh coming to Michigan.  "...eat our popcorn and enjoy the show."  And hope the show involves lots of wins.
