Typical Valenti

Submitted by winterblue75 on
Typical Mike Valenti.....he rips RR for going with DRob on the final drive, can't understand why RR was switching QB's that late in the game, calls it silly and strange. All that after DRob led them on a scoring drive and looked decent. Yet Dantonio switched Cousins and Nichols with NO rhyme or reason all season long, now granted he ripped on Dantonio for that, but at least RR had some evidence and reasoning behind him. So what is it Valenti? Now when someone is playing poor and gets pulled and his replacement leads them down the field and scores, that guy can't play either because god forbid the coach make a sound decision?

I understand what his job is, but that doesn't excuse it. WTKA doesn't come in where I live, so unfortunately if I want to listen to sports radio I have to listen to WXYT. I can't ignore it. Just the fact that the leading sports talk radio station in Detroit has someone on the air that openly mocks UM and their fans on a consistent basis is ridiculous. There isn't anyone on their station that even approaches that kind of talk towards MSU, and we all know it wouldn't be tolerated if there was. It is just another double standard in this town geared towards MSU and against UM.

I live in New Orleans and listen to WTKA every morning and afternoon via the ootunes app. on my iphone, if you don't have an iphone but have a computer you can listen at wtka.com. There are ways to get decent local sports talk radio w/o WXYT (which is pretty terrible).

for a month of two while The Fan was out of commission, it became clear to me that that guy does not know what the hell he is talking about. Half the time I think that he just sees highlights on Sportscenter and forms a very uninformed opinion. Foster at least seems to have watched the events he comments on. Man that show sucks. I realize it more and more every chance I give them.

What, are you joking? Terry Foster knows about a third as much as Valenti. Terry just seems more reasonable because he's the guy who sits in the back and makes bland, non-partisan commentary on every fifth thing Mike says. Terry Foster knows about getting a paycheck, and that's about it. Mind you, this is the same guy that said the Boise State/Oklahoma game from a few years ago was nowhere near as exciting as a NASCAR event that was on the same night. Sure, dude.

Dude, you said it yourself. Valenti has ripped into Dantonio all season long for switching QBs. Also, everyone and their mom is ripping into RRod for switching QBs, not just Valenti. People need to stop taking Valenti so serious and so personal. He has a job to do (part of which BlockM mentioned) and he does it fairly well.

Man, you have a strange definition of fairly well. If you mean he hosts the top rated FM sports show in Detroit drive time, that is fairly good. When you note that he hosts the ONLY FM sports show in Detroit afternoon drive time, that changes things a bit. Stoney and Wojo routinely kicked their asses until The Ticket went to FM. Poor management at WDFN led to Valenti and Foster passing Stoney and Wojo in the ratings, not talent or a better show. Sean Baligian is MUCH BETTER than Valenti. Valenti is the typical sports radio guy. Loud, dumb, arrogant, ignorant and Loud some more. He is straight out of New York sports radio. Just yell over people and call names. I can't stand most of the "personalities" on the Ticket(Karsh included) but Valenti has kept me away from that station for a long time. If the Tigers, Lions and Wings weren't on there, I would never listen.

I just don't get it. 90% of the time it is him bitching and moaning about the local teams. How is this good for you? If anything it just gets me more angry, and I don't need that. I already have enough problems -- like stalking charges and the lot.

Sure can ruin a day. At least they're not criminal sexual conduct. But your larger point is very well taken. I seldom listen to sports talk radio because it is negative by necessity. With all the media clutter, it must be bombastically negative to get noticed. I can not speak for you all but I get far more than my fair share of negativity in the real world. Please, just a little fun on the radio would be appreciated. Valenti hasn't a clue how to provide levity and humor. He approaches his job with all the finesse and style of a nose tackle. Karsch and Anderson are better. Caputo is a natural disaster. Where have you gone, Bob Wojnowski?

IS anyone else furious that this is what local sports talk radio is reduced to? I long for the days of Wojo and Jamie Sammuelson on WDFN, two reasonable opinion makers.

Bombastic, meathead sports talk is what pulls in listeners, gets ratings, and ultimately makes money. I wish it weren't the case either. I prefer Doug Karsch and Gator and their style of talk, but it obviously doesn't resonate with the masses as much as Valenti. He is the sports talk equivalent of the blog troll and as we all know, nothing stimulates traffic like a troll. Just ask the Freep.

It is terrible. It was all I could do to not email them a flaming list of why they are idiots. I believe he said Forcier will transfer, we should get off of Devin Gardner's band wagon b/c Pryor is a bust, worst secondary Michigan has ever had, sat. was a debacle, everyone doesn't like Michigan that is why they rushed the field. I think it was encouraging that such a young team was in such a good position to win that game against the 12th team in the nation on the road at night. It was two monday's ago he was cursing callers b/c EVERYONE knows they do not talk college football on Mondays but he hasn't had a problem the last two mondays tearing Michigan down for losing two on the road in games not many teams would win.

Valenti's job is to sell advertisements by attracting listeners to his radio show. He's nothing more than a trained monkey whose dance is to make ridiculous comments in support of MSU and against UM. Half the listeners think his schtik is genius, half are pissed enough to talk about him on message boards (but keep listening). As with the Freep, if you're not happy with a garbage product, don't buy - don't log onto the website, don't listen to the station, don't read the rag. There are plenty of other outlets who may provide a more objective viewpoint (and have a conscience).

Animal House: Niedermeyer: How does it fee to be an independent, Schoenstein? Schoenstein: How does it feel to be an asshole, Niedermeyer" WXYT: Valenti: How does it feel to lose to Iowa, Michigan fan? Michigan Fan: How does it feel to be an asshole, Valenti?

I usually defend him because he's a radio personality PAID to have an opinion and usually it's a little over the top but, well, that's more entertaining than the same opinion everyone has. I'd rather listen to that than some of the other boring personalities at WXYT (I'm looking at you Caputo and Fithian). What irks me about him though is he will contradict himself (callers often call him out on it, but then he just berates the caller and hangs up on them). For example, I think it was prior to the ND game, Valenti was arguing that Warren and Cissoko were a top 5 or top 10 cornerback combo IN THE COUNTRY. Today, he's scoffing at people for thinking Cissoko was any good because he had recruiting hype. Today he was in full-out "anger-Michigan-fan" mode, which is so frustrating to listen to. Best thing to do: switch him off for the day.

Today, they were going over the rest of UM's schedule. They figured @Wisconsin was a loss, and tried to remember the other Away game. They thought it was Northwestern, and said we might lose that game. Problem is, we play @Illinois, which should be a win for us. They never corrected themselves. This was said at like 5:30pm.

I wouldn't mind Valenti as much if their was more balance on the show. Someone needs to keep Sparty in check sometimes because they get out of control. Terry Foster is a lazy passive wormboy and needs to be replaced by pro Michigan guy. I was disappointed to see Art Regner leave the station a couple years back. Art would not stand for the Sparty slappiness that seems to go on there all too often these days. Maybe that's why they fired him. Not to mention Art was into hockey big time and not a damn one of the hosts at WXTY even care to discuss hockey or know the first thing about the sport. Let's have a rundown of how much Sparty bias is currently at WXYT. Doug Karsh - works for Michigan part-time but guess what? He graduated from MSU and wounldn't dare bash that school. Scott Anderson - MSU grad and Sparty slappy Mike Valenti - MSU grad and is convinced he is the reincarnation of King Leoniads Pat Caputo - MSU grad and alleged "unbiased" sports columnist. But never passes up a chance to kick Michigan in the teeth when the opportunity presents itself. Dennis Fithian - This guy claims to be a Michigan fan. Yet he's such a pessimistic whiny wormboy he might as well be another Sparty. Terry Foster - CMU grad and admited ChipaSparty. He's another one of these guys so called "unbiased" sports columnist types. But if you listen long enough and read his work you can tell the guy has a bias and an agenda aginst the Maize and Blue. There is a Spartan coup going on in Metro Detroit. For whatever reason it seems the media is trying to destroy Michigan's reputaion around here. Just look at all the hit pieces in the in the local papers over the last few years. Metro Detroit is important recruiting turf for basketball and football in this state. And despite Michigan's national recruiting prowess it cannot afford to lose ground in Metro Detroit in it's OWN backyard.

Have Valenti threads reached the level of threads about night games and maize jerseys yet? I really hope we don't have to see a thread every time Valenti says something annoying. That could get old really quick - like in a day for some people.
