Visits USC a second time and cancels a planned visit to UM a couple days after the USC visit.  Best of luck to the kid and no hard feelings.  I still think we landed a gem in Deveon Smith so that makes it hurt less.  We will be fine without him.

Good luck at USC, Ty.

This is disappointing, but even though I don't have the experience of breaking down film/scouting/etc., I wondered about how long Isaac would be able to stay at RB.  How many 6'3" running backs are there? How much higher would his center of gravity be if he grew another inch or two?  His film shows him blowing by defenders, but getting knocked down on the first hit.  I know the Domers were looking at him as a flex option.

For Michigan, does this mean we are done with recruiting RB?  Do we start making a late play for Green?

I don't think Hoke & Borges will lose any sleep over this. Sure, it would have been nice to have Ty, but they haven't put all their eggs in one basket. You win some and you lose some. The other thing is that I really do want people who want to be at Michigan. The fact that we are still in the mix for Poggi, Treadwell, Cravens, and Fuller, let alone a bunch of others, is a great thing.

Obviously, we have a better shot at Treadwell and Poggi. However, the fact that Cravens and Fuller (and Mathis, and Vanderdoes, and LaRue, etc.) haven't ruled out Michigan is a great thing. If you have enough guys like them still considering Michigan, eventually, some of them end up coming to Ann Arbor. If we ended up with our current class, plus Treadwell and Poggi, plus a single one of the above five, plus a couple three more where we were in a position of need, wouldn't you be thrilled with the class?

As others have said we have gotten into the top couple for a handful of recruits. That is a victory. This staff has done a marvelous job and I'm going to try not to doubt them until such time as our classes consistently fail to meet expectations.

Disappointing but we will live.

Well, this opens up a spot for a 4th WR, which I hope is the route the coaches take.  One of Larue, Stringfellow, and Allen and then Treadwell would make a pretty decent WR class.

A lil bummed until I look at the rest of our class......the combo of our o-line and passing game with Shane will make any guy running the ball that much better!

Hopefully, he will come to his senses and change his mind before NSD.  But if not, hopefully Coach Hoke has a plan B at running back.  Michigan seems to be snake-bit when it comes to recruiting at RB in the last decade or more.  Very few highly rated guys and the ones we did get either flamed out or played well below expectations.  So when this thought comes to my mind, I think of Mike Hart and things are better.

This is a disappointment for sure.  However, I don't think it's too surprising, nor will it be too damaging to Michigan's future.  As I said in another post (and other poeple have echoed) RB's are the one position where you never really know.  I think Ty is going to good.  But, I think Michigan has some very good back, and is in on others, so we should collectively freak out.

In terms of the, "Michigan doesn't get blue chip RB's...rabble rabble..." meme, I wanted to share my opinion on the subject -- for what it's worth.  Michigan, for all it's tradition, doesn't really have a tradition of putting out RB's that excel in the NFL.  By contrast, a program like USC does.  Until that changes -- and it might very soon -- Michigan is going to miss out on a lot of high profile RB's that aren't Michigan fans growing up.  Michigan's hisorical ground game success is perceived, IMO, as the product of elite OL's, not elite backs.

You also have to take into consideration that Ty might want to run against the less punishing defenses of the Pac-12 rather than the historically run-tough defenses in the Big-10.  If, as the pundits say, a RB has so many carries in him, it makes sense to take the path of least resistence, so to speak.  Have no fear, Michigan will have get the RB's it needs to again compete for the NC, they just might not have the star-appeal that the fans covet so.

Jesus, is the world about to be hit by an asteroid?

Can anyone remember who Michigan's all-time leading rusher is?  He must have been a ELITE FIVE-STAR HURR-HURR-HURR right?  OK, here's a hint: he also holds the records for games with 100+, 150+ and 200+ yards.

Yeah, I can't remember either.  2007 was so long ago.

RBs are sooooo overrated!

so this is not much of a surprise to me.  I would not be surprised if Treadwell also went elsewhere and we finish this year much like last year with some solid plan B type guys after missing on the late supers.  Thankfully we loaded up early.

You meant to put /s....right? I really hope so because no matter how this class finishes...it is still going to be one of the best recruiting classes since they started rating classes and quite possibly the best ever (IMO).

For what it's worth, I felt Ty was gone as well, but  Michigan only has about 5 or 6 spots left with at least a dozen or so highly rated guys left (Top 150 depending on your favorite site), which means we can only expect to hit on about 20-25% of our remaining targets and while that does not sound good.....you have to look at the class as a whole.

We have Smith and an elite offensive line as far as recruiting goes. We'll have no problem going back to the days of pounding MSU into submission with the running attack. And with how well things have gone, there's no reason we can't add Ohio State to that list as well.

Sometimes, a guy has to choose between an education or an education with a lot of illegal perks.  Putting USC on probation really worked...

We'll be fine. It would be nice to land another elite skill player, but the depth we have is more than sufficient to do what we need to do. More room for d-lineman imo.
