Ty Isaac commits, but questions remain
From CBS Sports:
Michigan expects to land USC transfer running back Ty Isaac, who according to a source is working through the admissions process with the school and committed some time after his visit this week.

EDIT: Title edited due to popular demand. Article says he committed, but there's still a lot of paperwork between him and a winged helmet.
I'd rather have a more evenly distributed level of talent per class. Assuming we get Ty Isaac, and D. Harris doesn't commit b/c of it, and we instead get a less talented RB, then we'll have a bigger drop off in talent when Isaac, Smith and Green leave. Now I'm not saying I don't want Isaac, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
Why? What happened?
Have you even watched this team run the football the past few years? I wouldn't say any of it has been "good"!
I see, so you're saying the problem was the running backs and not the blocking, play calling or coaching? So Ty Isaac is going to come in and average at least 5.5 YPC like he did last year?
Priorities, good sir.
We'd all prefer "a more evenly distributed level of talent per class." Let's worry first about putting together a running game that gains yards. Isaac would help in this regard.
So as I just replied earlier, you believe Ty Isaac is the answer to our running game? Not the blocking, coaching, or play calling?
Where do I begin...
Scenario 1: So you are convinced Ty Isaac is/was the missing piece in our running game? Please confirm this, because this sounds like what a lot of people believe to be the case. Additionally, you seem to believe a Nuss offense automatically means a running game that can be successful enough to "feed" multiple running backs.
Scenario 2: Not getting Harris or Weber is not/was not the spreading of talent that I spoke of.
"Bird in hand vs two in the bush."
So if we can get the top 4 QBs in each class, should we sign them all? No, we shouldn't which is what I meant by too much of a good thing...
Scenario 3: Great, we get Isaac, Harris and/or Weber.
"Ty Issac is absolutely a good pickup, regardless of the Harris or Weber fallout."
I still disagree with this. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I believe in our current group of running backs. I believe that our OL will get better and open more holes, and I believe Nuss will call a better game and the offense will be much better. And I believe that will happen with or without Isaac. So once again, I want Isaac, but I'd rather have Harris or Weber. And yes, all three would be great.
Thats another peeve of mine, of the current state of the program... stop changing uniform numbers...
In the joke that is the NCAA, the students are usually the punchline.
He has to get NCAA approval for this. I wouldn't be dancing just yet. Does anyone know how the hardship waiver process works?
I've always needed a copy of “NCAA Eligibility Rules for Dummies,” so just to clear this up:
- Isaac used one year of eligibility in 2013.
- If he gets the waiver, he's eligible in 2014, and for two years after that.
- If he doesn't get the waiver, he has to sit out in 2014.
- His redshirt can then be used to cover 2014, and he'll be eligible as a RS sophomore in 2015, and for two years after that.
Have I got it?
My wife is a senior manager at Wiley Publishing (they make the "...for dummies" books here in Indy). Sweet that you referenced them.
Wiley ... reference ... I see what you did there.
I worked in rights acquisition/administration at Cengage Learning for a few years, and also as an editor at a tiny Detroit magazine for several years before that. So consider it a professional courtesy. (Besides, I've always found the Dummies books to be quite helpful.)
Good peeps over there

Ask Al Borges.
@JFowlerCBSWas told anything can happen and process not done but Isaac has given UM strong indications he'll end up there.
"strong indications" not exactly "commits."
Not exactly Debbie Downer, but maybe Cautious Connie.
I get that, but he said committed in the original article. How do you give just "strong indications" and commit at the same time?
I don't know what's going on :/
Cautious Connie mode engaged.
I'm guessing it has to do with the outcome of his waiver.
I do enjoy having 5* RBs, but it's not like we've been missing RB talent lately, we've been missing people who can block for them. I'd be totally comfortable with Deveon or Green being the feature back the next 3 years. Isaac is great, but any of the 3 would be just fine behind a good OL
The line is certainly the single biggest concern for at least 2014 and probably 2015 unless they do something very impressive this year. However, the addition of a 5* recruit is always huge in my book, especially considering that what is likely his weakest season is already out of the way. The waiver is going to be interesting to follow, but even if he has to sit out a year, you basically added a 5* recruit for the 2015 class. Sure, he only has 3 years of eligibility, but he would have 2 years under our belt and would certainly at least help the scout team. Not saying you disagree, but I think this could be huge down the line.
cant take it serious until I see something on the main page but if true...this is monster pick up. For people who are worried about too many solid RBs and playing time for these kids...competition makes everyone better (a la Alaama), step up your game and you will play...with this stable of running backs, they will have to bring their A game every day on the field and in the classroom.
I hope this is true

I think that guy played for BYU or UCLA.
If we somehow have a terrible running game this year again then I give up all hope forever.
Considering he may not get his hardship granted, he will already have too sit out a year but on top of that you want him to redshirt too? You're crazy.
he wants Isaac to redshirt a year still to create a year gap between him and Green/Smith. It's fairly obvious?
