Ty Isaac - brief update
Per Sam Webb on the Recruiting Round-up on WTKA (use iHeartRadio), and didn't see any update in the Isaac thread from last night. Webb says absolutely Isaac is interested in Michigan. He gained his release to 17 schools, one of which is Michigan (and includes several other unnamed B1G schools), and none of which are Notre Dame or Ohio State.
His guess is that M will talk to him and see if this interest is genuine, and if something happens it will happen quickly. There is too much risk to Michigan with Harris and Weber to have an extended courtship with Isaac as he debates a lot of schools, and then lose him. They already know he can play, given how close he was to coming here last time (obviously the coaches liked him then, presumably still do now). Said Michigan will say "lets' talk turkey", if you want in come on, otherwise they won't linger. He said Isaac was second on the depth chart at USC as he left.
Also for any that missed the update on the Mykhailiuk thread - Webb says probably not happening, don't bother learning his name.
Never can have too many 5 star RB's though.
I'm sure that OSU is kicking themselves over allowing that Spielman kid commit after wanting to go to Michigan. Same thing with us and Henson with FSU, as well as the myriad of other recruits that committed elsewhere then decided to rethink their decisions.
Why? Serious question. I'm genuinely curious why you care or think it's important at all which teams a kid was interested in playing for other than Michigan if that kid ends up a Wolverine. Skill or ability to contribute completely notwithstanding.
It's not like he's going to show up and be like, "Man this place isn't as cool as USC, think I'll dog it."
wait.. if he was 2nd on the depth chart @ USC where will he be on our depth chart?
Bird in the hand I suppose, but I definitely like Harris better than Isaac just looking at HS film.
Posting this here (also) because the OP mentioned him—another indication that Mykhailiuk isn't a Michigan target:

I'm not sure why everyone is comparing Issac to Harris and Weber when we ought to be comparing him to Green and Smith. It seems likely Issac would get a hardship due to his mother's illness, which puts him a full two years ahead of the 2015 class. If the coaches think Issac is an upgrade over Green and Smith, they should try and get him. As has been drilled into our heads ad nauseam on this board, we need to show results in 2014 to keep the recruiting pipeline flowing. Passing on an RB that could help make 2014 a success to increase the chances of landing someone in 2015 makes no sense to me.
but we're probably just fine at RB without him. I wish a nice 5* G or C was looking to transfer to Michigan
If Isaac's wants to come , take him.
I still have serious doubt about Harris ending up at Michigan
Isaac is too talented a back to not bring into the fold. If he wants in, you take him.
Can I have some of whatever the people on here are smoking that are suggesting that he would automatically be behind Smith or Green or that he would absolutely have to change positions? It's not like he's some chump coming in trying to make the team. This kid was #2 or #3 on USCs depth chart. There team is loaded at talent at the position. Adding a talent like Isaac to our team at a position where we're not exactly stacked with talent isn't a bad thing. Oh, and stop assuming that if we get Isaac now that it will blow our chances with Weber or Harris. We might not get either one anyway. Take the 5* running back from last year with a year of experience and weight training tyvm.
And based on the tweet below and this Chicago Tribune article, it sounds like Isaac has interest in Michigan. There's also a chance that Notre Dame might still be able to get involved.
“Right now they [Notre Dame] are a team I can’t talk to,” said Isaac, a former five-star recruit who rushed for 236 yards and two touchdowns on 40 carries as a freshman. “That might change. (USC) might have missed the deadline to give restrictions. If they did I would consider it. … I definitely don’t want it to be a dragged-out process. I want to figure out where I’m going to be next year and get to work.”
Isaac said his mother’s phone was “blowing up” Wednesday while he traveled home from California, and he personally heard from Michigan and Illinois, among others, Thursday.
The Wolverines, who were in the picture originally, and the Illini fit his criteria.
“I wouldn’t say I have a top three, but I’m looking at Big Ten schools that are close to where I live,” Isaac said.
. @EDGYTIM: Ty Isaac told me there are no plans to visit Illinois this weekend. Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern will get consideration.

If memory serves, we did not take a RB in 2014 and he would certainly have been a top choice a year ago. That said, Hoke & Co. have invested a great deal in Green/Smith and i would hate to see anything taken from their development. I mean attention, not competition. The key is attitude. If Sir Isaac really wants to contribute, AT MICHIGAN, then let him convince Hoke of his desire to start over as a redshirt freshman and prove he is all in for this team. Otherwise, move along, there's nothing to see here.
